Given the comments I expected this to be a dumpster fire but it's not that bad. It seems like whoever wrote it watched a lot of Thai BL and lifted a lot of the annoying things from them and dropped them directly into this, the acting isn't great, and there seeems like something was skipped over in the development between Ace and Sky, but despite all that I still like it. There's some wtf moments but good moments too.. It's not Gameboys level but GB is an exception in the BL genre not a rule. I think it's pretty up to the standard of your average BL. I'm looking at this as a starting point and look forward to improvement.
It always baffled me when some of the most popular BLs are ones with sexual assault like Obsessed, Make It Right, and Addicted. I hate the idea that sexual assault is portrayed as some kind of intense love. Most fans ignore it or fetishize it, and it's gross, and it's about time we talked about how it's not okay.
Thankfully, BL is starting to stray from that a little with newer series and the new seasons of HIStory. It's still surprising to me that the same writer who wrote obsessed also wrote season 2 and 3 because they are miles apart.
If anyone's looking for a good BL, give Gay OK Bangkok 1 and 2 a try. It's honestly one of the realer depictions of gay men I've seen in BL.
Yim gets raped and they gloss over like it wasn't that big a deal? The poor boy will be traumatized for life. I'll be glad when BL stops using this as a plot device when they don't treat with nearly the amount of seriousness it should be treated with. If they pair YIm with that guy I'm going to be pissed.
I don't know whats going on with Runway and Dream. Dream's highkey creepy and who knows where that storyline is going. At this point I'm most looking forward to seeing where Tanai and Guide go.
I love YEH so I'll be watching even though it doesn't look like it'll be remotely good. Fingers crossed that'll it'll do half way decent though so YEH can make a proper comeback.
I don't know who's idea it was, but having Dream know Runway when he was a kid and having him hit on him when he's older, calling him my boy and whatnot is highkey creepy.
This is far more supernatural than I expected it to be and it's definitely slow, but I'm interested in seeing where it goes. I think there's a lot of interesting places they could take this show.
The first episode wasn't super exciting but it definitely has potential. I'm excited to see where this goes and I hope they do something good with the lesbian couple, because we don't get to see them often.
I have really high standards when it comes to what I'd consider a "good" BL series. And unfortunately this doesn't look like it's going to one of them. There were plenty of things I didn't care for in TWM, but at least Korn and Knock were kind of worth it to skim through the series. Here, there's just so much to dislike. Yihwa and Cho are uninteresting. Fai seems like she's just there to be there. I hated Farm with Bright in TWM, but the show seems intent on keeping them together, despite Bright being completely unlikable if you ask me.
And then when it comes to Korn and Knock, their relationship seems all over the place. Knock seems mostly uninterested in their relationship and I'm not seeing the chemistry I remembered between the two of them.
Aside from the relationships, there's some other things that don't sit well with me:
I'm not fond of the glorifying of fujoshi culture. The show starts out with a fangirl writing a fanfic of Korn and Knock and her and another girl run an entire fan page of the two of them. Korn and Knock don't even see a problem with these girls being so far in their personal lives? It reeks of fetishization and it's not something the show should be encouraging.
The whole "coming out" situation. Korn is wrong for kicking Knock out of their room. You don't ditch your fiance because you're scared to tell your parents about him. He could tell his dad they're just roommates. It doesn't matter whether he believes it or not. Though I do think Korn will have to come out soon ( he can't have his parents stay in his life and have a whole ass husband without them finding out at some point), I also think Knock is wrong for trying to force him to come out. If Korn's not ready then he's not ready. Plus, Knock doesn't even have a leg to stand on anyway cause he's not out either
I appreciate the fact that Knocks parents seem more accepting, their extremely ignorant in equating being gay to being feminine or wanting to a woman. I get that the cross dressing and penis/cucumber jokes are supposed to be funny, but that type of stereotypical ignorance being played for laughs is just unfortunate and hurtful to me.
I'll give this show one more episode to convince me it's worth continuing before I decide to drop it.
I didn't think Together With Me was all that great, but these two had great chemistry so I was still interested in watching this series. But at this point, it's a huge disappointment. The writing isn't good, the acting isn't good, and the story and characters aren't entertaining. I don't even see it getting any better if the previews are any indication.
Of course Korea would never remake Shameless, but it's always fun to imagine who might get cast in a show like this. Interesting article! Makes me actually want to write a similar article.
