Nope actually it's the ML (Tian Yiao) that's naive, was betrayed, and is now cautious (and hell bent on revenge). FL (Yan Hui) trusts her sect master more than she should, but isn't naive.
Of course, this is the novel. Drama might change that. Trailers don't suggest they have moved too far from basic precepts of novel.

there's more than "not much" of comedy in the novel. the author is renowned for using comedic situations for setting up and then going darker towards the end. so far the trailers suggest they have kept true to that.
