MK - you will definitely feel the tension of the plot. It's full on tension. The only part where it dragged a bit for me was middle section but this is a necessary part of plot so don't skip. Go for it. Back from the Brink (BftB) is also long awaited and finally kicking off on youku on May 11th, and it is very much plot with also great leads....so you can try both. But TtEotM is a worthwhile watch. If you haven't watched Xianxia - Love between Fairy and Devil (LbFaD) and TtEotM and BftB, Word of Honour, the Untamed, are all the best to start (others will list different ones, but you can't really go wrong with this list). The Starry Love was quite good as well, very funny and poked fun at some xianxia tropes, Song of the Moon was ok until it couldn't make its mind up at the end whether to be happy or sad...

ohmigod yaaaassss been trailing TtEotM but it's....urgh...lots of things, good bad ugly amazing....the acting is superlative.... so good to see this place livened up again!!!!

not watching for leads chemistry watching for leads acting. watching for scenery, costumes, attention to detail. not watching for less-than-deft edits. watching for some amazing background orchestral music. drama plot better than novel plot (others won't agree, that's fine), a few plot holes, you need to suspend disbelief about some of the characters' choices and just go with how it flows. breaks xianxia drama format even more so than LbFaD. but really....watch for the amazing acting....every single main character whether you hate or love the character is fully realised by the acting person.
What you want to watch is Love and Redemption, then. It's currently in close combat with TTEOTM regarding blood…
funny you mention that, i just can't stomach her either, so you're in good company....usually i'll put up with FLs being written badly, but in this case, it's actually not the characters she plays, but herself....very odd response, i know. Agree with those recs tho - do watch the Untamed and Word of Honour - they are originate from danmei but the drama versions avoid this aspect completely.

this is the only episode so far where LSS has finally admitted that she has feelings for TTJ. I'm not a head over heels fan of Bai Lu but have to say that she really held the tension for the last 29 episodes of falling/not falling. What a relief that she can finally recognise her response to TTJ.
