The epsiodes are only around 10mins each so the plot / story telling isn't very convincing. It's also very dramatic and cliche. Feels like I am watching a manga / wattpad story come to life. Some of the things they say are 1 dimensional, and would have worked well in short written stories but not a drama. Male lead acting can be robotic/unnatural at times but definitely great kisser from what I have seen in the 3 extra special episodes. Female lead has slightly better acting and actually knows how to respond to kisses. Their chemistry is the only saving grace. A pity that there isn't much sweet scenes in the actual drama and ending is also unsatisfactory..
Not bad, liked the leads' chemistry. Could also see why and how their characters fell for one another. Some stories will have the leads fall for each other prematurely or suddenly, leaving viewers confused. Good that it doesn't happen here.
Only watched Dylan before in Meteor Garden 2018. His acting improved in here. Esther acting innocent can be a little over the top sometimes but overall still natural and cute for the role.
For me, I enjoyed the first 20 episodes more. The later half slowed down, but that's where you see their character development. Some scenes can be slow in the mortal realm but nothing too serious to affect the overall watching experience.
Super cheesy and didn't feel the chemistry between the main leads. It felt like a brotherly-sisterly kind of interaction which was weird. I think the female actress is a little bit manly / emotionally distant to begin with. The male actor is boyish and I'm not getting the charismatic and ceo vibes from him. There isn't much sparks and connection between their characters. Started great and with comedic vibes but in the 2nd half, the story telling fell flat and with more serious vibes. So there's low consistency and chemistry.
The open ending seem to suggest as if there will be a second season but with all those deaths I don't know what…
Nope, don't think there's a second season. I think it's written this way to lighten the heaviness.. The last 3 episodes has too many deaths..as with most Republican Era dramas
Shawn Dou was the main reason I kept watching. What a fine actor. He has the charisma and good acting. Quite hard to find this combination among Chinese actors. The story was able to sustain a good pacing and engaging story telling. Many Republican Era dramas will lose its steam half-way mark by becoming draggy (i.e Seige in Fog) or the story shifts focus towards politics, neglecting the romance (i.e Fall in Love). So I appreciate how this drama balances the romance, bromance and politics quite nicely. Of course, it's not perfect. Around mid way, a few plot holes will surface but soon realised it was written to allow the story to develop further. I also couldn't understand how the male lead fell so deeply in love with female lead. And honestly, it wasn't realistic for a young, capable general to have and be devoted to only 1 wife in that era (#onlyindramas). Especially when his dad had 7. Lol. The story is pretty cliche and be mindful of its heavy inclination towards portrayal of nationalism in China / many deaths. But I enjoyed it and find it worth of my time to watch..
Got boring around half way mark.. The shift of focus towards politics with little room for romance was a no for me. Dropped it long ago. Think i will pick it up but maybe watch with x2 speed or just the last few episodes..
Okayyy, it's super cliche but I kinda like it up till episode 25. Unfortunately, a few plot holes are starting to surface from 26. Let's see if the writing gets better or worse in the next couple of episodes.. First time watching Shawn Dou and realised he is a good actor. His looks honestly isn't my cup of tea. But he has that charisma and sex appeal to fit this role. Chen Du Ling acting is inclining towards inexperienced and chemistry with the ML is on and off.
Maybe I'm too grown up for this story or the production team and actors didn't execute it well enough. I'm not sure what is the real reason, but this version fall short in some ways. The first half was pretty good how they changed the story to fit the modern setting, but the later half kind of slowed down and I couldn't feel the leads' chemistry. First time watching all these young actors. I am kinda disappointed by Bright's acting like how I was with Dylan and Shenyue in MG2018. Gorya's chemistry with Ren was better than with Thyme..
Can give this a pass. Could have been great but on 2nd thoughts, the drama wasn't well executed. The way it was filmed and edited made most scenes come off flat and without the impact it could have created to viewers. Chemistry was lacking between the leads. Some slower scenes here and there. Graphics is good
As per other thai dramas, there are some slower scenes. But the story has very interesting premise, and the scriptwriter did a good job. Love the chemistry between the leads
Both good and bad. Plot is cliche and conflict is resolved during later part of drama. Would have loved to see more sweet scenes though. The leads' chemistry is not bad.
My 2nd drama of Mark. I think he has better chemistry here with Kao than Yaya in Kluen Cheewit. You can literally see stars in his eyes sometimes when he's looking at his co-star. Acting is good.
1st drama of Kao. Very beautiful actress but acting with her eyes need to improve. I feel sometimes she overuse the widening of eyes and too much side glances. It looks a little scary in the earlier episodes because her eyes is huge to begin with.
In case anyone is wondering whether to watch, do give it a shot. Definitely see myself rewatching this many years later. It's one of my top cdramas in modern context.
