yep!! the only 'clue' we had was his daughter once mentioning she found him creepy but she was hungover or intoxicated i cant remember, so ur unlikely to take it srsly, till after the reveal it's mentioned again and then it hits you. that's what i mean tho, like when she said it no one took her srsly but then when u Know he's the killer it's like 'omg that makes sense now', i meant that this is why i dont like out of the blue plot twists but instead ones that were lightly hinted on all along but no one thought too deeply about.

actually most crime films are written this way it isnt new nfdsjkgnsk but they're older western crime films so maybe you haven't watched those. i grew up watching crime shows and movies so i have a clear picture of which route an scenes is taking within the first few scenes. crime thrillers make up a large part of the media i consume that's why i can judge all of these now.

the focus on the villain storyline is actually the one that's newer (and therefore in trend). they're both interesting and have their own merits but ultimately it all boils down to the writer and how they get across what they want to.

its pretty common in crime shows (bc they obviously can't give you a monologue from the characters' perceptive) but i like how the writer doesn't verbally explain stuff but still gets it across here. it really tends to be a hit or miss in crime shows, sometimes it hardly makes sense at all and sometimes u have a clear picture of what happened without any explanation.

oh i dont mean a predictable mystery at all!! but i mean the kind where you know, the author leaves tiny tiny clues all along, ones that you're unlikely to pay attention too, until the big reveal is coming along and then once its revealed its like BAM 'that's why that happened' 'that's why that character was acting that way' those kind of mysteries, i prefer those. they stay lingering in your mind, even tempt you to go back and look at what you've missed (and sometimes some ppl solve it which is cool too!!)

but like here the killer ended up being someone no one suspected that all, which is the usual style of plot twists that writers tend to employ. like if i were gonna make him the killer, i'd drop very subtle hints, like the inconsistency in his character, or maybe emphasize on the fact that his own daughter found him creepy (the show did this once i think before the reveal that's why it was so easy for me to accept he was the killer).

here too the writer did leave a (single) clue so it wasn't completely out of the blue but if i wrote it, i'd give one or two similar ones, like he hated women with painted nails so maybe his face twisting at that, or smth to imply before hand that he was good at digging/hiding things, or mentioned before that he did construction work (before ep9 this wasn't even brought up, if the writer mentioned it before, once he was revealed to be a killer it'd immediately make sense right? why the bodies were never found. its not necessary to make you suspicious of someone but to piece together the whole crime so you know exactly how it was done).

this is one of my favorite shows right now tho. i think the writer's a bit old fashioned in terms of plot devices, but it's alright this was still very well thought out and executed.

that's what i've always thought was the merit of this show!! which is why the scriptwriting is occasionally disappointing bc while playing the blame game its hard to root for character that could possibly be heinous criminals you know. that's what i was complaining about jkvdkds i wish they toned that down a bit

i think that in general this writer loves playing the plot twist game and sacrificed the riveting element of a crime thriller in favor of that. this would be generally more appealing to a gullible or older audience. ppl who still find major plot twists that are seemingly out of no where genius. personally i'd prefer if the writer left clues all along the way, throughout the blame game, so the audience would have reasons to rule out suspects at least if not guess the killer.

Title Beyond Evil Spoiler
i think a major flaw of the writer here lies in the fact that they take too much time to explain the motives of a character so everything's just done and the audience is left wondering WHY the character did that, why they think that way. the first time it took the writer 6 eps to explain juwon's motive and now they're going down that route again. he's changed but why? he knows smth that much is obvious but what? how sure is he of the chief being the killer that he went so far to frame him? now why does he suddenly think dongsik is acting again when he's already seen enough? why are they trying to make dongsik seem suspicious all over again?

its not necessarily a flaw tbh bc the writer does manage to make you interested enough to keep watching so you find out the answers to the questions but it also makes it So frustrating to watch bc as the audience you either know nothing or everything there's no putting things together, there's no slowly making sense of things which is why ppl tend to enjoy the crime genre. like how we weren't given clues on the murderer or even How the murders were done or why it managed to stay buried so long. even the list of murders was put about very abruptly and we still don't know why juwon asked that woman to go undercover, based on what and to do what? they just kept going around in circles exploring the character, which is nice actually, but i wish they'd stopped trying to make them all look suspicious and instead started giving clues to who the killer was.

i love this show don't get me wrong but if i was the scriptwriter i would have done things very differently. this style of scriptwriting requires dedication and patience and possibly blind faith from the audience's side and you can't expect everyone to have that so i understand why this show isn't popular and won't be. tbh i won't even be surprised if ppl drop this bc to be invested in a show you need to either be interested in the plot or root for the characters, and here, its hard to do the latter with them constantly playing the blame game, even the former is very confusing.

this ep felt like we were back at square one all over again, its frustrating. anyway, i for one do. i don't like the scriptwriter's style but i do think that they've written a brilliant plot. a few adjustments to the pacing and maybe moving some scenes around so things start making sense Before we're given the major plot reveal would have made it impeccable.

omg YEAH that's what I've enjoyed about the show so far it should be standard but its actually so rare to see in dramas i love that they never actually solve her problems and the romance is unrelated to him being her 'hero'.

The drama is good overall. Female lead is good. Male lead is terribly bad at acting. I can see the female lead…
i saw the male actor on lookout first jdkfsd and hes a really good actor (he plays a two faced prosecutor on that) its just that his character is childish hes doing a pretty good job for the role imo
the female leads tho both of them are so good its hard to believe lee re is only 15

I also think that Jungjae is a witness. The event left him so traumatized he wanted to replace the faces of those…
yeah now that u point it out it IS pointless to simply keep them around when they dont seem pivotal to the plot but keep appearing (jihwa's ex husband esp)
