Amen. I want to see him play a fabulous bitchy character or maybe a demon or something. Enough with the annoying…
I totally agree - and he may very well be capable of playing a role like Nuea - we don't know because he's never been given the chance. I doubt many people would have thought Nat could play Nuea after his role in Why RU, but he certainly nailed it.
But would there be anyone else that's better for this role? I mean they would need to pick a pair, right? Who…
You can't. He'll be contractually obligated to support the series and if he hates being typcast he'll never say it or he'd be fired and never cast again.
If his choices are whiny roles or no roles, of course he'll take whiny roles. Likewise, if a poor person has to choose between starving or becoming a sex worker, the choice might not be hard. That's why there are sex workers.
If he's not being offered other types of roles due to homophobic stereotypes about what type of boy is a whiny bottom, and what type of boy can have agency instead of being weak and useless, that's extremely negative and is an important topic of discussion. Dismissing it like you'e doing is a disservice to Earth.
As Thai, I think the internet is not the worst place to find the information about our history. In our academic…
I get what you're saying, and objectivity of textbooks is rapidly declining in the USA, so it's an important subjec here, too.
The problem with the internet is that many sites mirror whatever is on Wikipedia, and for history there's a lot of nationalism so the "truth" is controlled by whoever is the most persistent with edits, and in general most of what you'll read is just what has the most views. Google "marshal phibun" and you'll get 1,000 sites that copy Wikipedia. Or worse, google "King Ananda" if you really want to be confused, despite the subject's immense impact on Thailand for for the last 75 years. I certainly wouldn't trust textbooks alone for the reasons you mentioned plus the general shallowness of their coverage of topics. But if I'm really interested in a topic, I'll read several different books on it, or at least actual scholarly articles.
I really liked that Ayan's point was that nothing is black and white, but holding up his phone as a source of authority didn't strengthen his position.
She didn't say he couldn't eat, but that he couldn't eat that pork dish. She made him porridge. Some foods make…
If it's Thai it's probably spicy so you're probably right. I don't know how Thais make their congee but in China people put different things in it. I've had it with duck egg and pickled vegetables, and various other things. It's actually pretty good, but I'm guessing from Sieew's reaction that Cake was making him eat it plain, which would be like runny paste.
In answer to the question, who should he choose? Nammon, 1,000%. Always choose Nammon. But make him shave that beard.
I'm not sure I can watch this even with Gameplay and Nammon. Remember how awful Max was in Love With Benefits? I suppose he could have taken acting lessons since then, and to be fair, his entire role in LWB was to be horrendously sexually harassed.
This is not against the show i like it so far and he's doing amazing, but i need them to stop typecasting Earth…
Amen. I want to see him play a fabulous bitchy character or maybe a demon or something. Enough with the annoying fragile whiny crybabies. He deserves more. It doesn't feel like he could play Nat's role in Y Destiny, but that's because he's typcast as a sexless meek whiny crybaby.
But would there be anyone else that's better for this role? I mean they would need to pick a pair, right? Who…
The point is that Earth always plays meek and whiny characters. Most actors don't want to play the same role over and over again. I'm not sure what you mean by who else could play it. I can think of many.
OK, I've been thinking about why this didn't work for me, and I think I have it - somtimes Japanese BLs try too hard to capture the vusual look of the manga, which is a mistake, because, well, it's a cartoon. Everything is exaggerated, and there are visual cues which indicate things that need to be acted when it's live action.
For example, Takara's emotional flatness & walls are accentuated by his bangs concealing his eyes - but in live action, well, you can't see his eyes so the actor can't express anything. You need physical identifiers in a comic to be able to distinguish between the characters, so one might have, say, white hair. Or glasses, or not-brown eyes. But in live action it's affected and fake, and distances the viewer.
Compare that with the Korean Semantic Error, which didn't try to mirror the visual look of the manwha, but kept the spirit. That works better. I don't think Korea can match Japan in BL, but sometimes Japanese BL is overly mannered and affected, like in this case, which resulted in my being bored, and I'm unlikely to remember it by the time I wake up tomorrow.
She didn't say he couldn't eat, but that he couldn't eat that pork dish. She made him porridge. Some foods make…
Maybe dairy, but meat? Our downfall as a species is that meat has no negative health effects except obesity and clogged arteries. I'm not sure how rice porridge is supposed to restore your health - i'll just expand in your stomach and make you feel bloated. Plus it's salty and you'll retain water and get dehydrated, although you could probably say that about most Thai meat dishes, too, I suppose. But lots of healthy minerals.
There's a lot that's good in this, but the pacing... not the worst but it was just skirting my desire to FF. It was quite interesting for Ayan to take the side of a dictator and defend uniforms as egalitarian against the teacher who was essentially deriding them as classist without realizing she was undermining her own ideology. But it was weakened by his "I read it on the INTERNET!" - which was really immature. The internet is the worst place to find useful information about history. Still, I was impressed that the script non-simplistically looked at a social issue.
The dog scene and Kan & Tua in the library were highlights, as well as pretty much everyhing First does. I still find Khaotung to be overacting, but it was better this ep. I rolled my eyes at the judo practice scene which was falling back on a tired cliche - I wish that could have been handled with better writing and originality. By contrast the shower scene was much better.
I think First is the best actor on this by a respectable margin, but Neo is such strong leading man material that it's criminal that the don' give him a main role - with his looks, that body, and his big presence - he just takes over when he's onscreen.
This really well shot - it's one of the only Thai BLs other than ITSAY that really takes advanage of the visual medium and employs visual symbolism.
I agree, it is unfortunate that this forever ukes being dependent on seme, always whining, looking for help, hugs…
I was shocked at how long it took Cake to whip out the bowl of water and washcloth.
It's OK to have a frail uke, but you can't have him collapse like that without explanation - it's too cartoonish and takes us out of the story. If there turns out to be an underlying medical condition, then I'll take it all back, but about 50% of ukes have bad hearts despite being teenagers - is there somehing in the water? Clearly, given how a drop of rain can be near-fatal.
I agree, it is unfortunate that this forever ukes being dependent on seme, always whining, looking for help, hugs…
I agree - in Yaoi in the 1980s. But look at all the ukes in the big hits - SOTUS: Arthit, 2Gethrer: Tine (althhough he did faint due to sunlight), Addicted Heroin: Bao Luo Yi, Bad Buddy: Pran (who even topped), and that's just letters "A" and "B". It isn't necessary to have the uke be useless. I'm not bothered by seme = pursuer, uke = pursued, or even seme = top, uke = bottom (altough it would be nice to see an occassional exception). What I'm tired of is seme = REAL man, uke = frail and useless 12 year old who needs a seme in order to tie his shoes so he doesn't accidentally hang himself.
wow, I hope this page remains drama free.I've seen quite a few people complaining about Earth's voice and then…
I agree with you - Earth's voice is Earth's voice. His mannerism is a bit effeminate, but that's a plus to me, not a minus - sometimes he "straight-acting" required of BL actors comes off as affected or stiff.
But it is a perfectly legitimate complaint that his character (as opposed to him as a person) is whiny and intensely irritating. And I don't like that the writing equates effeminiate with fragile and weak.
No wonder ukes are so weak and sickly if parental care is being told "don't let him sleep or eat or he won't get well." I was waiting for her to put leeches on him.
Is anything ever going to happn other than Eiw whining about EVERYTHING. When he told Cake to stop whining it was like Hitler accusing someone of being anti-Semitic. When Benz came onscreen, I was afraid the sheer mass of whine would collapse into a singularity and create a black hole of annoying complaining that would suck all happiness from the world.
I kind of like the slice-of-life quality to this, but the problem is that Eiw isn't an anime character, he's a live human being, and his frailty is so OTT that it's kind of stupid. Who faints after exerting themself by taking 3 strides? Part of my problem with this is it's equating effeminacy with weakness. That's both homophobic and misogynist. Take 100 athletic men and 100 girls. Make all of them take a blood test - which group will suffer more casualties? Nobody would doubt the girls will win this contest easily.
It would have been more effective - and much, much faster - to make the point they're making by having Eiw be bullied and Cake defending him. It would also have had something to say about social pressures on people who are different, instead of just being hurt/comfort porn.
Earth is beautiful, and consistence to what he was since we all got to know him through UWMA.You may not like…
I don't have ay problem with Earth, and I like that he doesn't have that affected "I'm not gay!" attitude that a lot of BL actors & characters have - I just think his character in this drama is OTT whiny and nagging. Hopefully that will go away after the time jump.
OK, in the future I'll make an effort to point out WHY a trope is bad - I really don't believe they're bad just because they're tropes, and it probably sounds like I do think that.
You can't write anything without tropes. What exactly would be a trope-free plot? "Two boys meet in childhood and don't fall in love and are just normal friends, that see each other less and less as they get older, but remain friends." That wouldn't be a very interesting series.
One more time about LM - notice that Mark is the uke, but he's more athletic and capable in just about every way than Vee, the seme, who is a nice guy but indecisive and kind of useless. That's quite a departure from the formula, but is still seme and uke, and I liked it.
