I actually feel the same - it's dull. It's just an endless rehash of bullying and both characters are so lifeless that it feels like the entire series rests all its weight on cuteness. Haebom is certainly a cutie, but his personality is dull and I'm a little tired of ukes with no agency that are totally useless without a seme - how many times can we watch the same plot?
None of the characters have any motivation that we see, so it's hard to invest. Why is a Haebom bullied? Why does Taesung not defend him? Why doesn't anyone else? Why does the school staff just sit around while this happens?
How is it possible to be punched in the face without it leaving a mark? That's so unreal that it's distancing. It's trying to both have Haebom being tormenting and avoiding any consequences for it, creating a neat little loop which is lazy writing. The premise of the story can be totally ridiculous, like a ghost and a human in love, or someone replacing his evil twin in a marxist motorcycle gang, but the people still need to act like people and the laws of physics still need to be there.
Take Kissable Lips - I have no problem with a 500-year old vampire and a college kid being in love. But why on earth does a 500-year old vampire go to school? Someone being a vampire is part of the premise, and we accept that. But his going to school makes no sense within that context. If you really think about it, the only reason you can come up with is that he's a big perv whose only purpose in life is to pick up cute college boys.
I'm so bored that when the bully showed up to question Haebom it was just too repetitive and dull for me to continue and I turned it off and came here to see if there's something I'm missing - it turns out cuteness and being based on a manga are enough for people, which means the marketing formula works and series like this are all I can hope to get. Nobody wants to watch brilliant shows like Something In My Room - people want yet another high school drama about a useless uke and his inevitably tall seme.
I'm in love with Semantic Error, though. There we have two interesting characters and an uke who can walk without assistance.
Yes! If you watch teaser both CH3 Thailand and PhomkubPhee Official SNS, there are different. Pls stay tune!
The kiss was one of the best I've seen - what I thought was lousy is that they cut it out! The hug alone was fairly epic, though. A passionate kiss in this case would not have been as good as what we had - it wouldn't fit Phat's character to me. For the next kiss, however...
Are you saying that the source material contains SA? Because the trailer doesn't.
I see the blackmail. Here's how I read it - A guy wanted revenge against another guy for sleeping with his girlfriend, and planned to film him in a compromising position, The other guy woke up prematurely and they had sex that looked very consensual to me. So to me the moral failings are blackmail and cheating, unless that was an unwanted arranged marriage, in which case I don't consider him obligated. It seems like a fairly classic enemies-to-lovers trope, but a bit darker.
I don't need characters in dramas to be angels - there are already enough fluff BLs to make people who like that happy. Sometimes people are bad - that's what redemption arcs are for. I think it's going a bit far to say that anyone who watches this needs help. Of all the classic romantic leads, from Romeo to the Beast to Rhett Butler, none of the great romantic leads are particularly wholesome, at least at first. You're kind of saying almost the entire human race needs help because just about everyone has enjoyed a drama with a knave of some sort as the main character. Watching or reading something where something immoral happens doesn't make you guilty of that sin. Otherwise the Bible would sure be off-limits.
I would say that this shouldn't be marketed to children, though.
Thank you so much for your review. I love your objectivity and while this is not the first screenplay I have written,…
I'm so glad to hear that about trans characters - it's actually kind of clever if you lead the audience to believe it will be the expected way and you go the other. The cast is great and I'm looking forward to the rest of the series.
I didn't feel like this dragged at all, but are you watching the cut or the full version? I'm going to go scan…
My guess: His father was driving the car when Phob & his mother were killed. We've seen that weird landlady has met Phob's father - they showed it. She may be the mother of someone killed in the car that was hit. Or she was driving the car that hit Phob's family, but she seems like she has a dark agenda, so I'd say the former, plus the house spirit seems to be somewhat reserved with her.
I seriously hope it wasn't Phob's father that killed Phob and his wife because of some mistress situation. I'd…
The worst it could be is that he was driving when they died in an accident - Ben already said it was a traffic accident, and there's no reason for him to lie. Unless he was sleeping with Phob's mother, but that doesn't seem likely, and eww.
I think it's because Phat and Phob are in love, and Phob and Ben weren't. That was one of the most beautiful kisses…
I really love this series - I had no expectations from it because the guy who plays Phob was terrible in Oxygen, but his acting is 10 times better in this. These guys are really committed to this and they really seem into each other - so often in BLs you feel like you're watching two straight guys trying their best to avoid 'icky gay stuff.'
That was a really great episode, but the cut version really diminishes it. First of all, it's absolutely criminal that they cut out the kiss, but here it is:
Second, they do the blanket trick for Phat's mom, so she knows Phob is real. There are also other scenes cut which makes it clear she's afraid Phob will take Phat with him when he departs from this world. Also, they set up Phob being able to touch Phat better.
Phat is lethally cute in this episode. I usually roll my eyes at product placement scenes, but I really liked the hair gunk thing because Phat is too adorable.
They are really being unfair with the cut episodes. They should just air them complete for free a week later. People that would pay for the full version will also pay for the earlier version, so they wouldn't be losing anything.
This is my preference about the kiss scene actually i like both phob and ben kiss and phob and phat kiss the only…
I think it's because Phat and Phob are in love, and Phob and Ben weren't. That was one of the most beautiful kisses I've ever seen. Certainly not the hottest, but it was truly lovely. Don't spell 2gether like that. It gives me flashbacks to unpleasant memories. :)
At this point I'm starting to feel a bit impatient. This post-death investigation into yourself is damn hard!…
I didn't feel like this dragged at all, but are you watching the cut or the full version? I'm going to go scan the cut version to see how it's different. I think you have to excuse the hair product thing - at least they made the product placement cute. Phat was so cute in that scene it hurt a little. He's like the only BL character at the moment with a decent hair style.
The PE guy - yikes. He looks just as good in that workout outfit as he does in the shower. That was really funny how he gave the flirting girl what she wanted.
That was some serious awkwardness today. I laughed, but it was difficult to watch at times.
One thing - the episode's shortness itself isn't inherently a problem, but it's written like a long series instead of a short one, so they need to be a little careful. While I liked it, it was unsatisfying as the whole episode was "filler" in that the plot wasn't advanced at all but we introduced new side elements (like the stalker). If there are only 8 episodes, there's really no time for this.
I'm disappointed. Last week's episode was so aggressively awful that it was entertaining. This week was aggressively dull. I thought Wayu was finally making a move, but he really is just afraid of flickering lights and loud lizards (?) I'm not sure you really count as a luxury hotel if your rooms don't have bathrooms and lizards are terrorizing your guests. To be fair, ukes are afraid of being kissed on the cheek, so I guess fear of geckos isn't a stretch.
Speaking of which, Thanu and Wayu have advanced the physical side of their relationship to kissing fingers and touching them to the cheek. Riveting.
I will say that at least Kimmon and Copter didn't do that thing where the seme is planking over the uke with a foot between their bodies, and Kimmon used a hint of tongue, so it's nice to see actors that are comfortable with their roles. But there's a difference between 'sweet' and 'cloying'. The whole appeal of MarKit was grumpy vs cheerful. Now it's two pouty and boring people and Kit has lost any quality to differentiate him from the mass of formulaic ukes.
Sandee had, and I say this literally, one second of screen time, and it was just a simple happy smile, not one of his usual smiles that says he's planning your death.
Th only consolation was we got some of Padbock's cartoonishly OTT anger. And it was kind of cute that Pok is a terrible singer but he did it anyway.
