It has only 8 episodes though. We are in the middle of it rn.
True - I think maybe this ep should have set up their "date" better and made it more like a day two guys would spend rather than this, which was a little OTT. I almost expected rainbows and unicorns.
Nah I honestly feel like Gmmtv would ruin the series. This theme is like way ahead of the themes gmmtv does with…
The first 10 episodes would be fantastic, then everyone's characters would be destroyed to insert ridiculous drama in ep 11, and then the finale would leave us feeling a little better but still somehow cheated.
Do you ever feel like flying to Thailand, slapping everyone, and taking over all the production companies? What's with all the drama?
It sounds like different companies & people don't play well together. Hopefully over time they'll figure out how to have smoother relations and understand the value of long-term partnerships.
there is a kr bl its called where your eyes linger its on viki
IMO the best Korean BL to date, and one of the better ones overall. If you like Golden Blood, you will almost certainly love WYEL. I think it's better than this series, although it's short.
He's not really bad - maybe just mediocre. For me, he's so outclassed by Boat that he seems weaker in comparison. His still probably better than most BL actors.
This " young master" Sky is seducing his bodyguard without even being aware of it. All these ointment rubbing,…
After the latest ep, if Sky isn't aware of how Sun feels about him, he's an idiot. This is a BL, so most likely he's an idiot and misunderstandings will ensue.
I'm trying really hard to like this series, but though there are some cute moments it feels like something is…
I think it's what Evan said - moments don't seem to be "earned", i.e. not adequately set up emotionally. Turning on a dime from doing everything he can do to escape from Sun to providing him with a very heteronormative teenaged-girl fantasy day (he was even wearing what looked like women's clothing) was a bit abrupt.
Likewise, we never really saw any emotional journey from Sun. He's been groomed his whole life to protect his father's real son (even provide him with his actual blood) - and that son is a spoiled brat. No resentment to overcome? Frustration at all Sky put him through? Just straight and almost immediately to being stary-eyed in love.
Case in point - when Sun is describing what type of person he likes, the visual cues made it clear he was talking about Sky, but what has Sky ever done to demonstrate any of those qualities before this episode? He's actually been almost the opposite of all that.
It's like we're walking down a corridor glancing at photos, not experiencing what happens in the time between the photos. Somtimes the photo is interesting and makes you wonder about the context. But usually it's just a boring portrait.
This isn't terrible or anything, but it's not very memorable either. Although it's fairly memorable whenever Boat takes his shirt off, lol.
I was OK with Sky's serenade being bad because he's not supposed to be a musician. But the musicians were so,…
I think you're right. Maybe if it were a little less OTT romantic and more active and "guy"-like it might have been more convincing than a fantasy afternoon for a 13-year old girl. It's hard to imagine Sky being the type of person that would put on a production like that, or Sun the type to enjoy it, although he's so in love he'd probably enjoy watching Sky staring at a screen.
Where were the teachers who make their students hug cute guys for 5 minutes in class when I was in high school? (BTW, that was not 5 minutes. We've been cheated.) When he said "I'll be out today - study what we did yesterday" I was expecting everyone to hug for the whole class, but alas.
So Ep 3 happened. It's starting to feel like the series is spinning it's wheels. The two main actors are OK, but the others are quite weak, including the guitarist, who, however, is not hard to look at, although he looked like a douchebag poser with those dark glasses.
I think the production needs to work on improving their technical capabilities. I don't really see any improvement with time, so maybe there are people involved that need to be replaced.
I enjoyed the first two episodes for what they were: hella cheesy, chock-full of overused tropes, yet inexplicably…
I was OK with Sky's serenade being bad because he's not supposed to be a musician. But the musicians were so, so bad that it was hard to believe they were hired. They could probably have gotten music majors from the nearest university who know what they're doing for free or at least really cheap.
I agree with your critique - this ep was a bit much for so soon in their relationship. I get that Sky has a big heart, but come on. Also, how did he get all that planned so fast, and what happened to Sun's wounds? Does he have regenerative superpowers? Although he needs to practice holding his breath because he drowned in 15 seconds.
I think Boat is carrying this series. I can't not watch it because of him.
That actually wasn't bad. When Sun had cotton candy on his lip, I was groaning out load, but then Sky didn't wipe it away and instead got a woodie watching Sun lick it off! I was amazed! Something different happened!
The last scene was unecessarily long - that was making my eyes roll, but that's a minor complaint.
Speaking of minor complaints, you would want to stab the violinists by the end of dinner. Violins are LOUD. Also, they were playing way out of tune. Hey, I have to find whatever uses I can for my music degree! Were the musicians also the assassins? That would explain why they were so awful. Sky's serenade was pretty bad too, but that was cute - his character is not supposed to be a professional musician.
I did think this ep was a bit much for so early in the series - it felt little out of nowhere. To be fair, it would't take long to fall in love with Sun, but the cotton candy was a pretty good metaphor.
Boat is an incredible find - he's one of the best natural actors in BL, and that body... yowza. But his eyes are so expressive - I can feel everything he's feeling. I've been criticizing Gun, and I still think he's not great, but really he's just mediocre - he seems worse due to the comparison with Boat.
I find it hard to believe Sun would have let Sky go off by himself like that after last time - but if he does it again, he's an idiot. Also, it's extremely hard to believe Sky would find anything embarassing, let alone having Sun watch him posing for photos.
why are y'all taking it so seriously .. it's so funny to read the comments getting so mad over a 27 yo playing…
The issue isn't a 27-year old playing a high schooler, it's writing yet another high school story when you have two experienced actors who can play anything you want. Why not try something new?
Plus, the summary says three eps and the trailer looked like it was a parody, so I asked - I thought it might actually be a parody like A Man Who Defied the World of BL.
For what I think is the point, it's in the title, it's just a simple story to find meaning and happiness, but…
I agree with that analysis - actually, I thought there were 6 episodes, not 10, so I was thinking not enough had happened with half the series over, but with 10. the pacing is fine - generally. They still belabor some things, like when they were discussing showering in Ep 2.
One thing you can say for this company - they really know where to find good actors. No matter how awful the series is, the acting is great.
I feel like I'm back at church after I stopped believing and am looking around at everyone and not understanding…
I think you're right - judging by the irrational rage that they feel when someone they don't know on the internet has a different opinion than they do, I would guess very young age. I like it when people have different opinions because it expands my own perspective. In another part of this thread, someone pointed out some things I missed that are valuable insights and made me appreciate a few more aspects of the series.
COVID has made us all a little crazy though - the lack of interaction for a year is hard enough on someone with a longer perspective - if you're 13, that's something like 15% of the life you can remember. For me it's a much, much, much smaller percentage.
Throughout the entire COVID period, I went in to work (ironically at a Korean company), so my boss was 90% of my social life. When he went home to Korea, I had to speak for my group at his farewell and I couldn't, because I was crying so much - it's like the center of my life suddenly disappeared.
I definitely approach BL that way as I am on the team I am supposed to be 90% of the time.I used to be a Kdrama…
Got it. And as you know, I'm the opposite - I'm tired of the same thing over and over and would like writers to be original. They might actually be doing that here, but I'm skeptical. Hopefully I'll be surprised.
