I didn't feel the same way because they've just introduced this instead of it being part of his characterization…
I get that - my point is that his insecurity was in the first two eps until he had his makeover, then was totally absent until ep 11. It needed to be there throughout. That's poor writing and makes this very like a sudden gear shift right at the end of the story - typical GMMTV artificial drama inserted just because.
I agree with you about the Pi storyline, but not Duean - Duean is supposed to be frustrating, and I like that…
I loved the first half of 2gether, and by the end it it felt like the entire production crew had died in a plane crash and was replaced by a much worse one. Also, the only copy of the script was on the plane, so they just threw together every BL trope they could find and mashed it all 2gether.
Pi always seemed insecure to me, even among other nerds. He had no friends and no life outside of studying and…
Suddenly though? This wasn't an issue last episode. Insecurity was a theme in the first two issues, totally dropped after Pi got his makeover, and is now being picked up again just before the very end. It doesn't sit right. Not only that, but Pi is now completely unhinged when one or two people ship Mork with what's-her-name, when before the entire school was gaga over shipping Pi with Mork, which Pi himself shut down because it violated his privacy. The writing is inconsistent with too many holes.
I think it's done terribly. It's come out of nowhere the last couple of eps instead of a theme running through…
Giving it more thought, I think the issue is that the whole school was ranting and raving about what a perfect couple Mork and Pi are, and Pi himself shot it down as a violation of his privacy - only then did a couple of people move on and ship Mork with what's-her-name. This would have worked if social media had always resisted Pi as not good enough for Mork - but here it's too out of the blue and way too close to the end to introduce this. Yes, insecurity is a theme, but it hasn't been since Pi got his makeover - and now it's suddenly being picked up again.
I didn't feel the same way because they've just introduced this instead of it being part of his characterization…
The problem is that a major plot point has been that the whole school has ranted and raved about what a perfect couple Pi and Mork are, and Pi shot it down as a violation of his privacy - only then did some people move on to a new ship. If social media had consistently resisted Pi as not good enough for Mork, then it would make sense. Here, it's out of the blue and not consistent with what's come before.
I have not read that distinction being made before. Could youelaborate please.
BL is a very distinct genre, usually with a fantasy element, and formulaic qualities that are not true to life. Two men in a relationship don't conform to this seme/uke dynamic that is universal in BL, not everyone is filthy rich, there are no schools were every single member of the student body and faculty are gay, etc. People don't fall in love because one of them tripped and was caught be the other and they stared at each other for an implausible amount of time, etc. And no matter what, there's a happy ending. Even He's Coming to Me where one of the pair was dead had a happy ending.
The seme's only job is to stand around looking handsome, giving the uke rides to school, and catching him whenever he trips or faints - here Teh is a fully realized character with human flaws rather than being a knight in shining armor.
If it's not a BL, then it's a drama with gay themes, and there can be a lot more realism and unhappy or bittersweet endings. Also, BLs are aimed at teen girls (even though older women and men watch them too), and a gay drama is more likely to be aimed at a broader audience and have a much greater LGBTQ+ sensitibility, whereas a BL is usually more of a 19th c romance with a passive boy dropped into the female role.
lol If you want a new uniform style you can watch Y Destiny... but my big question is "why they have uniforms…
I guess they think 18 is too young for individuality? Possibly it's to paste over class differences - but that never works. There are cheap white shirts and expensive white shirts, and everyone knows the difference.
what do we learn from this series: communicate!!!! If Vee and "character name but spoiler so not saying the name"…
You mean that would have prevented his being raped with magic by a witch and also by her psychopathic brother? (Except it wasn't rape but part of an even more evil plot by a half-demon boy pretending to be an innocent.) I don't want to jump to conclusions, but it feels a little like you were watching a different series than I was.
I'm put off by JM pining over a woman. Why can't he be pining after a guy? Why do they always need to insert things like this into BLs? It's like writers feel a compulsion to place a woman between the two boys in every story. Even 1.000 Stars did it, even though she was dead.
Anyway, I love Iyo Canlas - I've rarely falling in love with someone so quickly. What he looked like in the towel certainly didn't hurt, but that was just a bonus to his adorable personality.
It was funny how JM's bad karma made him slip in the bathroom.
As usual, Filipino BL is totally superior when it comes to music. Production quality was good, cinematography good, with a few misteps.
Take a look at the composition of the shot when Reb wakes up at 15:00 - it's very artful. More of that please. Also, more showers for Reb.
I honestly have mixed feelings about this episode. Something was not right about it. And trailer for the next…
I think what was wrong is that it was too radical a shift for the penultimate episode. Pi's insecurity and caring too much about what other people think is relatable, but not how they did it. First, his insecurities evaporated when he got his makeover and have never been touched on since until just now, and second, what exactly does Mork present that someone who cares about what other people think would be afraid of?
This could easily have been made palatable with a few minor changes. First, the whole school was ranting and raving about Pi and Mork as the perfect couple, so his sudden deflation because one or two people moved on to Bam and Mork because Pi so thoroughly shot down the Pi/Mork ship is not really believable. If people had said on social media that Pi isn't good enough for Mork from the beginning, then it would make sense for him to feel this way now.
And while I'm glad we're not dealing with internalized homophobia, that would have made a lot more sense than this does. If he's so concerned about what people think, isn't having the hottest and most popular guy in school Best Case Scenario? Either that, or they should have cast someone less godlike for Mork's role - maybe even someone conventionally physically unattractive. That would have been much better for the theme of the story.
Oh no! They should have do the Bam storyline as the main conflict. It’s better rather than this Pi’s character…
I'm not sure I would have liked Bam as the main conflict, but it would have made more sense than the way they did it for sure. I'm fine with Pi having these insecurities, but they needed to be there throughout the story, not just in the first two eps until he got his makeover and then suddenly in ep 11.
Didn't Pi explain why he is the way he is in this episode? The snide comments are the reason why he wants to hide…
I thought Pi's predicament was somewhat relatable - but it was out of nowhere. This entire series his resistance to Mork was as a rival and because he liked someone else. The insecurity was touched on in the beginning, then totally pushed aside once he got a makeover, and now all the sudden it's back. You can't just shift gears in ep 11 (although it's GMMTV, and without a nonsensical gear-shift in ep 11 I'd probably be confused) like this. Hello Stranger had one, but when you look back on everything that had happened, your reaction is "Oh. OH. OMG!!! YES!!! [explosion of tears of joy]" Here it's an exhausted sigh.
Today's episode was quite underwhelming, to say the least. Is it me or is the final episode promising to go even…
It's GMMTV. That's all you need in order to explain this. You know that feeling when someone has become so tiresome you can only exhale loudly? That's where I am with this.
Agree, as someone who is outstanding at being average, this ep was painfully relatable. You are always the side…
Yes, but Mork likes him. I was like Pi too, but it feels awfully good when a Mork wants you. He's only a side character because he refuses to allow Mork to be public with their relationship.
So basically what you said.
