In Filipino, chinito is usually used positively. It refers to attractive or cute Filipino-Chinese (or Chinese…
In the context of California culture, it's neutral - it depends on how you use it. It's vaguely racist though, so it's probably best avoided, but in our cultural context there's a history of discrimination against people of Chinese ancestry (they were shipped in as railroad workers and then not particularly welcomed to stay. But fortunately they did, which is a big reason we have such a good food scene).
Thai people are really scared of ghosts, especially those who live in the countryside. P'Aof, the director of…
That's so strange. I get the supernatural connection in the countryside where your existence depends on natural forces and harmony with them an, but city people seem to be even more terrified of ghosts. At least in BL! It's always ghosts of dead people, too, not any other type of supernatural being.
Darn. Ep 11 was one of my favorites of all, but 12 was a disappointment. 90% of it was flashbacks to things we just saw - sometimes literally a minute ago - and the other 10% was people talking really, really slowly. There was no more than 5 minutes of content.
It's weird that when he was 11, "adult" things were happening, but when he was 18, everything was an 11-year old girl's fantasy. I mean, he could at least have given Choke another handjob. BTW, who cleaned up the mess after that first one? They both acted like they didn't remember it, but the evidence would have been, well, evident.
Anyway, ep 11 score: 9.5. Ep 12 was a 6. The chemistry between these two is the best I've ever seen - I really, really, really want to see them again.
OMG, that was so good! Thre budget is low, but the quality isn't - and there's obviously so much love put into this.
The boys act like boys and the interaction is so natural and unforced. Mon was cute in previous productions, but he's become gorgeous - plus a great actor. Oak is never going to be conventionally handsome, but he's so endearing and really maintains character beautifully throught the story.
You rarely get to see a BL set in a rural setting - and this one is unsanitized and authentic.
Are Asians really that scared of ghosts? Or is that just a BL trope?
I almost feel bad for saying it because I know they're working no budget but that is the saddest cafe I've ever seen. Don't they know someone who has one that would let them use it?
This episode was much. much better than last episode. The story moved forward, and there were so many nice touches - as is usually the case in real life, Prince's plan didn't go as he'd hoped, and they had that lovely reverse Sleeping Beauty image - that symbolized their equality. Prince is Nico's prince in shining armor, but Nico is also Prince's prince. That was reinforced when Prince said Nico is always there to take care of him.
LJ just killed it in this ep, from his confusion, inability to communicate, his awkwardness,, vulnerability, that alpha male thing he does, and that smile. You could literally go blind if you stare at him for too long when he's doing that.
In the scene with Rain, I was thinking, "wow, that guy is so attractive." Then the next scene had Prince in it and I forgot Rain existed. Axl did a great job as well, and Nico was better than usual - to be fair, this is the first episode where he had any agency - he usually just has things happen to him.
As implied by the title of Episode 3: You are Mine, this episode was about possessiveness, as it pertained to…
Was the "mine" thing worse in Tagalog? Because Prince can stamp my forehead with "Property of Prince" and store me in a closet when he has no use for me.
"Be mine" is a common thing to say - and Nico also referred to Prince as his. I don't see what's objectionable. If you love someone, it isn't easy to see them being happy with someone else - especially someone who's obviously attracted to him.
I’m so tired of there being BL’s with actors or studio not making it authentic. Like they totally faked the…
That was super-lame. Even Korean shows have started doing real kisses. They're pairing up in another upcoming BL, so they better redeem themselves. And there's still the last ep of this series, so maybe we'll get something better?
Honestly, I didn't like this show too much at the beginning, but now I'm sad it'll be over in a week. Peter, Boss,…
It's funny how tastes differ. For me, the order is Peter (by far), Net, Boss/Sun (tie). They're all attractive, but Peter does it for me. But I'm white and live in the West, so Sun just looks like an average guy. Whereas Peter is often naked, sweaty, and tied to a chair.
After weeks and weeks of planning, we finally get the party. And it’s ruined and over before the guest of honor…
I was hoping for the lighting on fire thing, or at least pushing someone off a building, but I'm growing accustomed to disappointment. Like I get every morning when I look in the bathroom mirror.
You know, I'm getting really tied of how horrible people are given total absolution for being horrible to the point of evil with no consequences. I would have probably even been satisfied if Mom had continued one sentence: "...but I'm more proud of Markie." Shs didn't even have to add "because you're a total dick."
A guy can hire people to gang-rape a rival and try to strangle someone to death, but no problem. Uncle can commit 1st degree murder on his own nephew just for money, but he apoligized, so all is forgiven.
Migs was such a complete and sustained asshole and so abusive that he should have been kicked out of the household to protect the rest of the family. What's he going to do to to Jen when he finds out? This was very frustrating and unpleasant.
"I know I did my best to teach everyone the value of love". No you didn't, you spent the entire series neglecting your children despite possibly fatal violence brewing to whine about not getting a big enough b-day party.
And Tagalog is already more expressive for feelings than English, so do we need to import banal English phrases like "It's your truth"? Blech.
This was preachy and sanctimonious with a script that lacked authenticity [eek, there was just an earthquake where I am], which Filipino BLs are starting to lean to (except the Stranger's Kiss series, which shows instead of telling).
It was almost, but not quite, saved by excellent acting. This was a missed opportunity.
KIND OF lacking? Like the Holocaust was KIND OF like a bummer?
The seme/uke thing is taken to extremes too - and even though it's two guys, it's still manages to be misogynist, because the uke is plugged into the woman's role, and he's helpless and needs to be taken care of by his big strong man. First of all, who's more "masculine", taller, or and/or older has nothing to do with top & bottom in real life (and there isn't always a top & bottom). I get that seme & uke are Yaoi, part of the genre, and are not going away, but it's too much right now. I was excited when they cast someone bigger and more muscular than the seme for the uke role in 2gether, and at first it was fine, until he started fainting whenever the sun touched him and crying when Wat went anywhere near another woman.

It's brief, but that voice and outfit...
