I loved that the actors were required to wear their doctor and engineer uniforms even in the beach scene because "that how BL is done." I've always suspected the producers were making them do all that. "More accidental kisses! More trip & catch & stare! More screeching ladyboys!"
Straight guys are also used for humour. Where's the problem?
Not all straight guys. ALL effeminite gays are silly "comic" relief characters. If all straight guys were presented the same way, I'd have a problem with it too.
That's not cultural appropriation. That's showing idiots as idiots. Cultural appropriation is when a dominant…
That wasn't my point. My point was that if a person is going to be sensitive about "appropriation", then don't be selective. You can't complain about one while enjoying another.
I think they were meant to be complete idiots, not mocking Sikhs. If anyone took that as a serious depiction of…
But they weren't showing Sikhs as bad guys. They were showing clueless Thai boys being idiots. If the boys had hired actual Sikhs and they were depicted like that, it would be highly offensive.
That episode was much better than last week's, although some of the Yaoi GIrls scenes were too long, and again, an overweight effeminate gay man is used for humor, which is getting very, very old.
Mork is so beautiful I can't stand it. Mix is cute, but Pond is a 10/10.
The cultural appropriation was not needed at all. It's cringy.
That's not cultural appropriation. That's showing idiots as idiots. Cultural appropriation is when a dominant culture takes elements of a colonized or minority culture and uses it outside it's context, like the wearing of American Indian war bonnets or using Am Ind images in the logos & names of sports teams.
Bollywood is hard to paint as an endangered minority culture when it's so ubiquitous. In any case, the term is overused. Cultures overlap and influence each other. I use chopsticks as often as forks and knives, even though I'm American. Is that appropriation? I'm also a pianist. Am I guilty of appropration if I win a monetary prize for playing Beethoven?
Almost all modern pop music has its roots in African-American culture - is that appropriation? By most definitions, yes, but is it harmful? Should we be offended at the Yaoi girls rapping? That was cultaral appropriation, but I doubt anyone even noticed that.
The Sikh bit was so ridiculous and stereotypical it was intended to make the boys like like total morons, not to mock Sikhs. If it weren't totally obvious that they were idiots, there would have been no humor, so the very fact it was used takes for granted that the entire audience knows that's not what real Sikhs are like.
For that matter, you're watching a genre that appropriates gay relationships, takes them completely out of the context of the struggle for identity and rights we endure, and using it to titilate women and girls - is that not worse?
unpopular opinion but i lked the shippers, and i loved the fact that they´re outsiders so they don´t know whats…
They're OK, but their scenes go on too long and it starts to get annoying. I like the content of what they're saying - that cracked me up when they mentioned Earth/Mix.
This series was a good distraction on Fridays, and I’m happy there will be a season 2. I’m curious to see…
I never understood why people find those so sexual - they're just horsing around. There's not even one whiff of anything sexual in it. Is it because you can't see below the waist so it invites an image of nudity? So is the image sexual, or are our minds just dirty?
Are they fecking serious that they have left out the confession scene? What the hell? As for the kiss, the Line…
That make a lot more sense than what we saw. That scene was so tame - why would they cut out something that important? They even showed the kiss anyway, so it makes no sense.
It was ok until the last few episodes I guess, the end was boring and disturbing, I don't know why they make a…
This is not sarcasm, I'm just curious - what is disturbing? This is the most wholesome story I've ever seen. They've worked so hard to make it that way that at times it's boring.
Mork is so beautiful I can't stand it. Mix is cute, but Pond is a 10/10.
