I don't think any Thai BL writer has ever been drunk. I'm basing that on the formulaic depiction of drunkenness. Not that there's anything that's NOT formulaic in Thai BL, Also, I would like to have Pok's insta-recovery-from-being-drunk superpower.
Also, I think we have a winner for most intrusive product placement of all time.
And we found out where Pha has been - he fell into a time vortex in which 10 years passed before he could get out. Maybe 15 years.
Also, can someone clue me in to the source of Sandee's unmotivated evilness? Maybe he wants to burn the world down so he doesn't have to watch Wayu cry AGAIN AND AGAIN. I know I do.
I feel Rungtiwa is somewhat involved in the slave prostitution business.
There's always darkness around her the way the cinematographer shoots her. I get major evil vibes off her. And when she confronted Por, it was obvious she was accustomed to having and using power.
with how bad tonhon chonlatee was im so scared to get my hopes up for this one, even though i've been waiting…
I'm nervous too. But the director did He's Coming to Me which was excellent, Dark Blue Kiss which had terrible writing but was superbly shot and directed, and he also did Out Skyy. And yet, GMMTV. The series will be great for the first half, then the characters will start to behave inexplicably as an evil ex-gf shows up and creates unpleasant drama to watch before the mains get together in the last 30 seconds and high-five each other. Sound about right? Instead of a high-five it might be one of those kisses where they're lips touch but they just stand there like that.
I liked the originality and the ideas in this series, but it was missing chemistry between the leads, and the acting skill was too unequal. Overall I enjoyed it, but it should have been better.
Well, it turns out Ton's brother-in-law is gay - and I'll bet his father is too.Ton's character is a bit inconsistent…
Thank you for the insight - I hadn't thought about it that way. In progressive segments of American culture, many women are attracted to feminine or androgynous characteristics in men, so it was hard for me to conceive of fem-shaming being authored by women, especially women writing m/m fiction (or scripts).
This show is so excellent I'm at a loss to understand how it can be rated so low. Is it the pacing? I love the pace, but I guess maybe a lot of people prefer something faster. The Wade actor could be stronger, but holy Moses is he gorgeous. Acting is more important, but it doesn't hurt when you can't stop thinking "holy Moses is he gorgeous."
The writing, cinematography, everything is wonderful. I can't recommend this enough.
Storywise this was a mess and yes, it had many toxic tropes. Even that part with Farm's ex girlfriend drugging…
Thanks. I seem to have had strong opinions of this series at the time. I tend to get set off by evil gf and "I'm not gay, I only like______" tropes - they're beyond tiresome. But I do like MaxTul and am really enjoying Manner of Death.
I was sort of enjoying it until it dived off a cliff in the last 2 episodes. Dived off in very, very, very sloooow motion. When you have that much voice-over, there's generally a writing problem - show don't tell, especially in a visual medium.
Everyone loves the bestie friendship, but it seems one-way to me, symbolized by Bart forgetting she exists again when Bryce enters the frame. And the total lack of chemistry between the leads was a problem.
I thought we were going to make it through without the "I'm not gay, I only like _________" cliche, but nope, they managed to squeeze it in.
I think this might be the worst BL I've ever seen. Not in production value, but I don't think you could find a way to take so many promising ingredients and make something worse than this.
It had one original and interesting quality, and that was Na. Once he was out of the story, there was nothing left but homophobia, sexism, and and an endless stream of cliche.
I rate this series better than cancer, but worse than COVID.
I'm not even looking forward to 1000 Stars anymore - GMM will ruin it.
If you think of it, all their fate were quite ambigiously presented, so they still keep us off-balance. The visuals…
Maybe he did fall and died, and then something evil possessed his body. Or the ending was a dream or vision - it was ambiguously shot. I loved the twist, but how can they continue the storyline if the protagonist is monstrously evil?
Maybe he fell and is in a coma somewhere and everything that's happened since is a dream/vision.
I don't think everything can be as it seems if the story is going to continue with the same characters.
Wow. My theory was that Vee's father was something supernaturally evil - there had to be something supernatural…
One other thing - when Vee jumped off the balcony and in the next scene behaved as if nothing happened was never explained - maybe he died and a demon inhabits his body? Or he's "mostly dead" and his spirit is somewhere trying to return? I don't know. I like that he's the most evil of everyone, but where can the show really go from there? He's 100 times more evil than Jennifer - she did bad things out of twisted love, but Vee just wanted to destroy everyone for fun.
Wow. My theory was that Vee's father was something supernaturally evil - there had to be something supernatural about Vee himself since magic never seemed to work on him.
What DID happen had occurred to me, like "wouldn't it be cool if..." but I didn't think they would actually write something like that, especially given the equivalence that's been drawn throughout the season between Catholicism & Satanism.
Anyway, it might not have happened - it could be a dream, illusion, or vision. Either way, I loved this show and I can't wait for S2!
