So Ryang Eum does get out of the prison/asylym, thankfully! I'm so mad they left it hanging in the first version!
He reunites with Gil Chae when she still believes Jang Hyun is dead. It looks as though Ryang Eum leaves in the night, taking Jang Hyun's fan with him π’
Woah! They are airing a new, extended version of the last episode! π
"MBC's Friday-Saturday drama 'Lovers' returns to viewers with an 'extended version of the last episode'. The 'extended version of the last episode' has been confirmed to be scheduled on Thursday, November 23rd at 11:55 PM"
"We were able to decide on this extended version due to the overflowing love from viewers. Along with the scenes that could not be included in the previous final episode...I hope this will be an opportunity to deepen your understanding of the characters.β
They managed to make this drama something I can cherish even with its flaws, but after hearing the original intention was for 30 episodes but MBC turned it down, I can't help but think what this drama could have been with those 30 well planned episodes, and pre-production with more time to edit.
It's so disheartening that we don't get the long historical dramas like we used to and that My Dearest could have been that instead of cramming into 20 episodes.
I know these dramas are expensive and time consuming to make so that is why they are rare, but I hope the popularity will let networks know that yes, there is an audience who will watch an epic historical for many months, starring "older" actors (π sorry, I am calling to mind the commenter who said NamKoong Min was ancient).
I actually didn't hate the amnesia in the last episode and think it served the story here, unlike in the (unnecessary, in my opinion) episode from before.
I love that they retraced the romantic storyine's narrative and themes as Jang Hyun and Gil Chae literally retraced their steps. I love that Gil Chae's dream was revisited. It gave the whole drama that full circle feeling and sense of purpose.
It is a great shame that rushed production clearly got in the way of what could've been an even greater drama. If they had more time, I imagine it could've gone from "great" to the masterpiece that I feel is buried beneath some rushed decisions with both writing and editing.
At the end of the day I am glad that we got a happy and satisfying ending for Jang Hyun and Gil Chae. Because of that, despite my criticisms, I feel I can leave the drama peacefully.
And you did stick the landing to me, show. Were you perfect? No. Did you play fast and loose with the timeline…
You pretty much took the words out of my mouth. Beautifully said. It wasn't perfect, I could go on and on with how, but you're right...Shows that make me feel and think this much do not come around often!
In the preview it shows Jang Hyun saying "Please save me, I will live as if I am dead" to his father (I think)... That almost makes it sound like it could be him being kept alive in the jail. The prisoner in Episode 1 was being taken care of by a nobleman. Jang Hyun's father is a nobleman. Could he be there under a false name and Jang Hyun "disappeared?" Is this a huge plot twist?
(I hope it's not true π But the possibility only occurred to me for the first time)
Omg, this is crazy. I had suspicions that something was off with the production of this drama especially in Part 2...The filming going so late, adding extensions, sloppy editing...But to still be filming like this...What is up with MBC?
It doesn't increase confidence for a final episode that will be put together well π
No, definitely younger. Don't get confused by the other "Ryang Eum" who was older than Jang Hyun in the flashback...That was their servant Sam Do who got the nickname Ryang Eum from Jang Hyun. But he's a different guy.
In the flashback of JH and RE, RE was definitely like a little boy when JH was a teenager. And he is clearly much younger than him too just going by how the actors look
EPISODE 19 RECAP β SPOILERS AHEAD OBVIOUSLYβ’β’β’Saved the best drama for last as usual π₯° I have some…
Lol yes. I liked when Gil Chae fed Jang Hyun and Ryang Eum was watching looking annoyed...Finally, like a true family π I too was thinking if only they can stay like that in the end!
Overall I also prefer Part 1. However I think if you have seen writer's other works you will know for sure she…
Yes, the GWTW comparisons have really stopped which is what I was hoping for (means it's less predictable) but the writing has not been as tight.
Live shoots used to be more common but nowadays even modern dramas usually wrap filming well before the finale. A week ago AEJ and NKM agencies were saying they were unsure when the last day of shooting would be...That's insane! I have a suspicion MBC realized the popularity of the drama and insisted on changes to try to get more money. Yeah, I want to hear if there was any drama between the writer and the network πΆ

The writing is messier in part 2 for sure...I think mainly the pacing. I feel a little better about it now that I understand what the writer was trying to do with the romance in Part 2, but it has had frustrating moments for sure.
I wonder if production also got in the way of the writing. I mean, they are still filming and working on the show! Right down to the end. For a historical drama that is crazy. I honestly would be curious to have the production gossip π because the episode extension, the addition of Lee Chugn Ah...I feel like something went astray.

Sadly, no subs. I believe there is one or two more additional scenes beside this one.

Last episode will not air for some time still.
Trust me when we know the ending you will easily find the answer in the comment section.
