I don’t know what’s happening with Fangs of Fortune, but she is killing it on We Are The Champions! I had no idea she could actually play eSports. She just became the MVP. Fact: She is the most talented woman out of her peers in China. This girl can actually dance (not fake dancing where the camera person has to work hard to make it seem like they can dance), sing, act, model, and play esports. I hope she becomes the biggest Chinese star on the world stage.
She looked so pretty today. I am happy she gets invited to so many events this year. Hope we see many morehttps://x.com/xiaoxiaomiii_/status/1811022235232260374https://x.com/xiaoxiaomiii_/status/1810989014490697748https://x.com/xiaoxiaomiii_/status/1810977494264356873https://x.com/xiaoxiaomiii_/status/1811032734636085758
Is it true that Yuehua didn’t promote her pics from Glass? If so, then I’m disappointed in the CEO’s management skills. Shouldn’t her stars be cross-promoting each other? Don’t they have a dedicated Marketing Team?
I’m sure it will be, but I don’t think it’s going to be that popular. It’s available with English subs…
First, I love your passionate defense. I appreciate that you don’t mind emotional immaturity because she’s new to being a CEO. However, as someone who works with C-Suites in the Americas and Europe, this woman would never have been elevated to that level with her actions; she would never be taken seriously. In part because she’s a woman; in part, because she still acts like a twenty-something when it comes to handling situations. I haven’t worked with any Asian C-suites so maybe it’s different there.
I also expect that people to use their age to gain experience and to act better than they did when they were younger. I don’t expect an 18-year old to handle things the way they did when they were 13-years old. I don’t expect a mid-30-something to handle things the way they did when they were a mid-20-something. If one can’t learn from previous experience and apply that to new situations then, IMO, that’s a huge developmental gap in one’s behavior.
As for her previous hits, yes, stuff released years ago did well. I will add Sword and the Brocade to that list. However, this one is not burning up the charts. But, that could change…
Hope to see ABAY added on Netflix soon. Almost half way in and I can say with certitude that it is 1 of the best…
I’m sure it will be, but I don’t think it’s going to be that popular. It’s available with English subs on YouTube already and its popularity is meh. People are watching for Xu Kai, of course, but (based on the comments), they aren’t really enthusiastic about much else. I don’t think the story of a 35-year old woman with the emotional intelligence of an early-to-mid-20-something being crushed on by a younger man resonates that well in North America or the UK. It might make sense in China and to MDL audiences, however that type of casting/storyline is a tougher sell outside of those markets.
Case in point, The Double was apparently very popular in China and MDL. It’s half way through its run on Netflix, yet it hasn’t broken through in the Top 10 on any North America Netflix chart even though the FL is an actress known and beloved by many in that region. In fact, it’s struggling a bit to find and maintain an audience. Like ABAY, It has casting that asks the audience to ignore the fact that the FL looks older than the way that the role was written. And, like The Double, it compounds the dissonance caused by that decision by casting the other primary roles with age appropriate actors.
I love seeing older women as the FLs, and I don’t mind seeing them with younger men, but let them bring the emotional maturity of their actual ages to those roles.

I agree; She was stunning! I hope she keeps this makeup team. Her hair down look yesterday and make up were great. IMO, only 2nd to the hair down look she at the finale of Asia Super Young.
Sometimes, her hair bun looks are hit or miss. Today was perfect.
Thanks! I just binged 10 episodes and I like it, but I don’t love it. Why in the world did they cast Wu Jin Yan as if she were 21?!? I realize they were trying to match the novel, but they could have cast actors and actresses closer to her age and said they were 21. Instead, they cast 21 year old actors (they were probably even younger at the time of filming) and tried to make her look their age. The heavy makeup and lighting tricks to try to make her look younger were disconcerting and took me right out of the plot. I think those bad decisions also cause the cast to have zero chemistry with each other on screen. The script is okay. I love smart female plots, but the cleverness never quite hits for me as it did in Princess Weiyoung or Yanxi Palace. However, I do think it’s a better performance from WJY than Royal Feast was, but it’s not a runaway hit for me like Yangxi Palace was.
Thanks! I can tell that the MDL crowd loved it. I was wondering if it aired in China because I heard that China censored Yangxi palace. I thought that was one of the best dramas. I just wanted to see if the same thing happened here since there was so little chatter about it. The Double is doing okay on Netflix in the US. It’s not in the Top 10 for new shows yet, but I think it has decent viewership.
HELP! Is this airing in China right now? I don’t see it in the MDL Top 5 list for currently airing dramas in China. The only reason I know about it is it appears in my Netflix recommendations list. Did it air earlier in China?
Then you are missing out on the best parts. It’s weird because the first 5 or 6 episodes have a very different tone from the rest of the show. It’s almost like it had two different writers or directors. But, once the FL learns to trust the ML, everything flows very well; thankfully, that happens pretty early on. Episode 9 is one of my favorites from the early part of the show. Episodes 20-32 are outstanding. CX is one of the best criers in Chinese drama and she expresses her pain very well in all of those episodes. I think it’s one of the reasons why Luo Yun Xi agreed to act with her again in Follow Your Heart.
Not just ugly, also cannot act? Get out, you in the wrong profession. Stick to dancing, although you can't dance…
LOL - she’s definitely not ugly and she has the BEST figure in China. With that figure and fairy face she is the rightful owner of the Barbie Doll in China title. As for her acting…when she acted in FIYS and Lie To Love, her acting skills were as good as Esther Yu, Bai Lu, Song Yi, etc. That was 2-3 years ago. Since she worked on the Indie Film, Umbrella Man, her acting has appears to have exceeded theirs. We’ll know for sure when Fangs of Fortune is released. If you haven’t seen Umbrella Man, I highly recommend it. It’s an interesting interpretation of depression, mental illness and hope.

Thank you for this translation! Her comment intrigues me. I wonder what her role is and I’m happy that she was in something so high profile. I hope that she continues to work with the best directors and gets a lot of acclaim for her efforts.
