i'm only on ep2 but i dont mind some spoilers if needed for clarification but i'm a bit confused as to why Zhu…
That’s part of the mystery thar the other Leads want to solve. What is Zhu Yan’s actual objective? He’s a very Loki-like character so it’s intentionally not clear yet. As for his 2nd name, that’s explained in episode 5 or 6
I enjoy watching their dance during the ending song. I can't skip it 😄
I feel the same way! I usually skip the intro/outro after a show’s 2nd or 3rd episode. A lot of work goes into making intros/outros, so I don’t like to skip them from the start so that I can respect the effort that was involved.
However, the intro/outro for FoF feels like the scrawling titles that open up Star Wars Epis 4-6. They’re a visceral part of the show/movie’s drama so skipping them seems sacrilegious. Maybe I’ll change my mind once we get to Episode 20😄
The story isn't that interesting either. GJM is a terrible script writer..
🤜🤛 Exactly!!! KMLM was supposed to be a runaway hit, but it’s been a dud everywhere except on MDL. The Story of Pearl girl opens this weekend. It’s being promoted heavily in Weibo, and MDL even dedicated an intro article to it. Let’s see what happens
I'm 9 episodes in and I am seeing so many anime tropes and similarities in this, and that's probably why I'm loving…
I love your analysis. It’s that anime vibe that will allow this show to succeed in platforms like Netflix when others like The Double, Kill Me Love Me, and the last 4 releases of the Fox Spirit Matchmaker series have fallen flat.
She is good when it comes to her cold & cool character and executes the fight scenes beautifully. However, when…
Now, that she’s started to match her peers’ acting skills, she’s a threat to many of them because she has the face, the dancing skills that are perfect for martial arts scenes, and now she portrays a wide range of emotions in a way the connects with most people. The rest of her peers have on,y one or two of those skills, so fans of her peers feel threatened. And, if the industry is based on merit and not connections (and that’s a BIG IF), they should feel nervous. I hope we’re looking at the next Zhang ZiYi.
Most definitely!! I waited so long for Fangs of Fortune and I thought it was just me! I thought maybe I just had…
The Double, and Kill Me Love Me have been absolute duds on Netflix; they were DOA. The Double, in spite of near incessant promotion on the internet and in Cdrama fans Netflix recommendation lists, and it staring Wei Yinglan who is on of the best known Cdrama actresses to international fans, it didn’t make once it into Netflix’s Top Ten, not even during its first week.
As for Kill Me, Love Me, its popularity in China is unimpressive. It’s coming to its series climax, yet its score on Douban’s most watched TV shows list is falling. It doesn’t even have at 20 share. FoF is at a 95. Clearly, Netflix got some bad advice.

🤣 Thank you. I needed that laugh this morning. It’s one of the few shows to exceed 8400 on iQIYI s heat index this year, and it had 3 times as many viewers as its competition according to Douban’s TV viewership meter.
I’ve seen through episode 9 and it’s still incredibly good, and seems to be getting even better! It’s the type of show where you can watch each episode multiple times and see something new.
The pacing is perfect. There are so many characters in the group, yet each character is being explored and given a compelling storyline. That is extremely difficult to do. Only the best shows and movies succeed at it. Shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and The Avengers. FoF is equally as compelling.
I think the people complaining about the pacing are likely to be from the same camp that criticized the comedy and structure of The Avengers movies. 🙄
To each their own, but The Marvel Cinematic Universe is the most critically and economically successful movie franchise in history because of this type of pacing and the chemistry of the cast with each other and the plot. I hope that this continues to be a runaway hit in China and the world. It’s already performed well above expectations; especially, for a show with no A-listers.
The action scenes aren’t too slow or too fast. Unlike the overwhelmingly majority of CDramas, TJR and CX did their action scenes without the use of doubles or exaggerated, extended wire work so the director doesn’t have to use trick cameras or speed up the scene to hide the fact that the actor doesn’t have martial arts and/or dance training. That was one of my pet peeves with A Journey to Love. The main FL was supposed to be a badass martial artist, but the actress didn’t have those skills so she vogued her way through the fight scenes. 💔 However, in FoF, the director allows the action to unfold at real-time speed with just a few slower motion shows to showcase the beauty of the actor’s skills.
The music, production values, and acting are all top notch. The show’s success has been driven by word of mouth. In fact, I don’t see Weibo promoting this as heavily as they promoted War of Faith or the upcoming Bai Lu drama. Yet, FoF is still averaging 8200 on their heat index. Hopefully, international fans will petition internationally popular streaming platforms like Netflix to purchase this and show it.

I understand why she won the Rising Top Ten Actor Wenrong award a few days ago.
