Let’s qualify “well-respected and popular” with a timeframe. She used to be popular a few years ago, but has been eclipsed by stars like Zhao Luisi, Diliraba, etc.
I don’t mind that she’s older. One of things I like about the CDrama industry is that actresses over 30 can still get roles as something other than mothers or aunts.
As for XK’s costars and career, he used to consistently be paired with actresses around his age or younger. Over the last few years, that trend has definitely changed.

I agree that more projects will help. I also think she needs a better PR strategy/team. Even, without projects, she could still boost her profile with more personal videos and pics. Something similar to a “lifestyle” strategy until the other projects kick in. It’s clear to me that her peers have this strategy. Maybe her PR team needs more staff because she’ll also need to cross post to multiple SM platforms in China and outside of China. She’s extremely popular in Russia, the Middle East, and Latin America, and I think she should cultivate that popularity as much as possible.

I would love to see her show off her dance skills, both classical Chinese and modern, as part of the character’s charm. I would love to see her in a Mission Impossible style role like Maggie Q played or in a high-end SciFi/CBM role like Underworld. I think she could rock that look and part. Or John Wick. Rina Sawayama was okay in John Wick 4, but I think CX would have that same role iconic.
I love the evolution of her look. I feel like she finally has a makeup artist and stylist that are aligned. Her outfits and photo shoots have been impeccable this year.
I wanted to love this because the Xu Kai/Wu Jin Yan pairing, but it’s a bit bland and mediocre. It seems like half of the cast appeared in Yangzi Palace yet it lacked the magic of that show. It’s worth a watch, but only if you’re trying to kill time
