I could smell the beauty of the dialogues in JOPS and RN but couldn’t chew on it and taste it.
The lines of Chinese poetry quoted in JOPS was lost in translation completely, and in JOL (Viki) it was slightly better but still terribly lacking.
I felt it was a tease. I would pause to read carefully and inhale.
The dialogues were so important in R.N. to give you an insight into the characters, mind, into the way the story was moving, into understanding a lot of the machinations and politics

This is looking so fabulous and interesting. However, the casting of the ML, I mean excuse me. Did they run out of every single guy who could have pulled this off with such panache? This actor cannot act at all. Have seen many actors who may not be that suitable for a role, but this actor is absolutely so DUH.
if I end up dropping this drama, it will be because of this ML. I cannot take one more frame of him showing up. If she is like this gorgeous Mahogany pillar, he is like a small paper cone next to her.
this powerful actress portraying a powerful woman needed a powerful actor to be her foil. I have no idea how this poor actress got pulled into playing next to him.

I think I am in the thrall of two stellar Period dramas : - Royal Nirvana (all 60+12 eps) watched twice immediate back to back - Joy of Peaceful Serendipity (bowled over by the tremendous acting - sets - directing - character portrayal through evocative directing).
This could have risen to great heights with a better cast and director..

I just failed to find another MEATY historical like the two I mentioned. I lapped those two EVEN touched they both had SUCH POOR quality subbing - ufff!!! Missed all the poetry and texts.. And got so much gender address wrong. Plus the awful grammar.. Had to keep inferring as well as using Google Translate - inspite of that I was riveted.
Trying to get those two on Viki by suggesting it. Youku and YouTube is so poorly translated.
I love the historical part of this drama. Interesting to watch but disappointed in the poor editing which made…
