I think when BQ was Su Su, she did care for A'Li. Yes, part of the reason she jumped off the Zhu Xian Terrace was due to her disappointment in YH but another reason is that the immortals from Heaven didn't like her. So if she left the Heavens, then A'Li would be safer because no one would treat him maliciously as long as she left. So she did think about his well-being when she was Su Su.

As for the rest of the drama, BQ didn't know that A'Li was her biological son, so of course she wasn't as close or caring to him. I agree that after she found out A'Li was her son and especially after YH's death, she still didn't take much care of him, which is probably what you guys are mentioning, and I completely agree. But that might be due to the fact that YH's mom/Heavens people kept A'Li stuck in the Heavens so he couldn't go to Qing Qiu to see BQ. And also no one ever mentioned BQ in the Heavens due to what happened (like when Yuan Zhen wanted to meet BQ but the Celestial Emperor was like perhaps you should wait a bit more before we allow you to go meet BQ) so even if BQ had gone to visit A'Li, she wouldn't have been welcomed there.

But yeah, her maternal instinct isn't very strong, but if I remember correctly, the author of this novel seems to have had a tendency to not write the maternal aspect into her characters, even for her other novels I think.

I really liked the translating/interpreting aspect of this drama too!!! really enjoyed the professional aspect of this drama.
The first half was spectacular, super funny and absolutely loved it.
I actually quite enjoyed the second half hahaha (unpopular opinion though I know). Personally, it only got hard to watch for like the last 5-6 episodes. But I thought 1-35 were all good
but glad to see that someone else also liked this drama!!
it's funny because this drama received pretty negative reviews in China but at the same time it was #1 in it's time slot for the entire airing of the show LOL

people say this is Scarlet Heart-inspired. It probably is, even though this drama came out eight months before the original Scarlet Heart even aired.

apparently the producer for this drama couldn't get the production rights for adapting the Scarlet Heart novel, so he made his own version. But this drama actually has a huge difference from BBJX in my opinion, even though there are a lot of similar elements like the time traveling. I would't say that the 4th vs 8th prince fighting is copying, since that was an actual event that happened in real chinese history, so of course it'll be similar in any KangXi reign drama.

but personally, I liked this drama much better than scarlet heart, considering I dropped scarlet heart after four episodes (unpopular opinion though haha I know)

this drama was more popular in china than BBJX i think, but that might be because this drama aired first. but still, both dramas have their good qualities so let's all just watch whatever we want

yeah the drama might not suit your taste, so it's okay!! try to watch until at least episode 12/13, that's where the story sells for most fans.

this drama is really really popular in China, and I've noticed that a lot of times, popular dramas in China aren't necessarily popular with international fans due to cultural differences/vibes. so it's okay if you don't like it! :))

I didn't even like yang mi before this drama and I'd only seen one movie with mark chao before but this drama made me become a huge Yang Mi fan and also adore mark chao's acting.

a light and cute movie, nothing deep about it, but perfect for watching on a Friday night! and especially if you're a fan of the actors/actresses in this movie. the cosplay ending is hilarious; brings back a lot of Swords of Legends feels :')

yup it's based on a novel of the same name! I've never read it, but my friend read it before and he said it's one of the best fiction novels he's ever read.

If you plan on watching this, I think the general consensus is that the drama is really good from episodes 1-21 (ep 21 is great). Those first 21 episodes are genuinely really fun, like the drama feels like it's more of a romcom! I think for the latter half of the drama, it turns more into your typical melodrama, so most people don't like that.
I think 22-28 is also pretty good although not as good as the first 21 episodes. Personally I'm up to episode 32 right now and I still like it, yes even though I already know the ending (but I'm pretty sure my opinion is extremely unpopular LOL)

I actually only found FJ/DH relationship tolerable at first, but I LOVED them after episode 52 when their journey is given so much more depth and background.

@Lifeisbeautiful ME TOO there are so many scenes that I know by heart!! Episode 30 is definitely one of them!!!! we are never going to get over these feels LOL

me too!! I still rewatch my favorite parts/episodes. I'm definitely going to keep an open mind going into the movie, but both Yang Yang and Crystal Liu have some big shoes to fill!! The CGI/effects for the movie look spectacular tho haha

I'm bad with descriptions lol so I guess it's kind of your typical scheming/plotting harem drama but I think it's done a lot better because the plot is much more complex and the character motives are better explained than most dramas. I just know that China loved it for its high intellectual speech and plots.

@Jordan I feel the same!! unfortunately our opinion is actually an unpopular opinion haha. I was very bored with Scarlet Heart for the most part (so I dropped it) LOL

I like how Qing Chuan was actually worried about getting back to the present time whereas I feel that Ruoxi wasn't lol (or at least QC put in more effort/thought about the issue more haha)

also I noticed you are watching Ru Yi so I was wondering where are you watching it from? I remember starting it awhile back but I've totally forgotten where I watched it from lol

I just started watching Palace the Lock Heart Jade and I think it's pretty good so far!! It's pretty funny and I think has a faster pace than most historical dramas.
We can always wait for the movie version of Eternal Love to come out too! :D

I think it's because they whip their subs off of dramafever hahaha so they were probs waiting for dramfever to finish subbing first lol

looking through your dramalist, it seems that you've already completed a lot of the really popular chinese romance ones (Love O2O, boss and me, general and I, sound of desert) so it's hard recommending you smth haha

I think Princess Weiyoung is a pretty good one!! (I notice you hadn't seen it yet) And a lot of people who watched Eternal Love also liked Journey of Flower (I haven't seen JoF) but JoF is also a xianxia/fantasy drama directed by the same director of Eternal Love.
You can also try watching Palace The Lock Heart Jade or Scarlet Heart (chinese ver) although I've noticed that international fans preferred the korean version over the chinese version but people in China obvious like the chinese version much better.

I also think the movie "First Time" (Mark Chao is the male lead here) is a great bittersweet romance movie!

there are also some great cdramas that aren't very romance focused so idk if you want to watch those
