52 episodes are zo extra
This drama series is adapted from the novel series of the same name (the novel is not very short) so I think 52 episodes is pretty standard.

Ode to Joy is based on a Chinese novel series of the same name. I've only finished book one so far, which the first season is based on, but I skimmed the second and third books and I do think that the latter two books are more exciting, climatic, and plot-twisty. Almost there!!! :D

Title Eternal Love
Ye, who complained there is nothing to watch after 3L3W, read this: 1. Have ye checked out the top rated dramas…
Nirvana in Fire is not the first palace drama of its existence. There are sooooooo many palace dramas with fighting for the throne and scheming/plotting. Going by your logic, every palace drama copied each other then! LOL. Furthermore, EL's scheming is sooo minimal compared to other palace dramas since it's more of a romance drama. But I love both Nirvana in Fire and Eternal Love a lot even if they're different but that's just me.

Everyone has different tastes LOL so it doesn't matter what the ratings are. Different people like different things, you can't expect everyone to like the same thing. Also, stories are going to copy each other in some way or another; there's only so many stories people can come up with. I'm sure if we really wanted to dig deeper, we could probably find that Condor Heroes copied another story. You could even say that Nirvana in Fire copied the Count of Monte Cristo. Nothing is ever truly original; things always originate from something else which originated from something even older.

Everyone has different tastes in story, quality, fight scenes. Everyone has different tastes in pretty much everything in life. So it's perfectly fine if you think that way, but others think differently!

As people, let's just all keep an open mind. If people choose to think that EL took stuff from Condor Heroes, that's chill. If people think that EL ain't that great, that's chill too.

But thank you for bringing your point of view and side to our attention. I'll respect that.

Can someone jog my memory on why dong hua took his name off that big rock
Dong Hua was one of the oldest/first immortals of the world. I think they mentioned that at the dawn of the world, there was a lot of fighting. He didn't want himself to have any sort of love tribulation in his life as his enemies could use it against him, so he decided to wipe his name off the Three Lives Stone, which would essentially make him fated not to have a romantic partner in his life.

I don't think Eternal Love took things from Nirvana in Fire. The things you mentioned are very common in historical/palace-related dramas LOL it's all part of the plotting and scheming of things

but yeah aside form EL, Nirvana in Fire is really good and lots of other historical dramas are good too, but it seems that the general public prefer happy endings over sad endings so that's why many people like EL since a lot of chinese historical dramas have sad endings.

Is that the end because it really doesnt feel like, plus it seems the story was cut short at the end. Or it could…

I'm soooooo excited for this drama!! Ode to Joy is my third favorite drama of all time and I read the novels…
I read it on this website: http://www.fhxiaoshuo.com/read/77/77943/
this website doesn't separate the chapters by book, but I think roughly chapters 1-99 are book 1. book 2 starts on chapter 100 and idk where it ends since I haven't gotten that far yet haha
lmk what you think of the novel! :)

Call me outdated but I prefer Wei Wei to that Bao guy...she used to be a block of ice but he waited & waited…
I think one thing that I didn't like about Wei Wei was how he was sort of selfish in his actions. I think Tan Zongming mentioned this in the drama when he punched Wei Wei, as he chastised Wei Wei for finding An Di's dad and bringing her dad back into her life. Tan Zongming knew who An Di's dad was before Wei Wei did, but still chose not to bring him back into her life because he knew that it would be a huge affliction against An Di's mental health if he were to do so. But Wei Wei did not consider this aspect, and wanted to bring An Di's father back into her life, thinking that An Di would like him more if he did, but obviously this plan backfired. Also, in the book, Wei Wei like slaps her face physically and stuff idk I think the books explain it kind of better.

I do think that both Wei Wei and Bao Yifan both have their good qualities. Season 1 doesn't give much insight into Bao Yifan's character/background but I read the novels, and I liked him much more (just based on the novels). Wonder what season 2 will bring to the viewers though.

Are you looking for translations or just the original novels in Chinese? because I read them in Chinese. I can try looking for an English translation if you'd like!

I also think chinese historicals are much much better than korean saeguks, but a lot of ppl would say that chinese modern dramas are a bit lacking compared to modern kdramas (altho I still prefer modern cdramas over modern kdramas but that's just me). I only liked Descendants of the Sun for modern kdramas lolololol

but guccigall is right, unfortunately since cdramas arent as popular, many are not subbed, which honestly just worsens this vicious cycle :(

I'm pretty sure it's episode 26 or 27!! She chooses to forget everything that happened in her life as a mortal. But she remembers everything about herself as Bai Qian, just not as Su Su. She will eventually gain her memories back....but that will be later on

52 episodes??? WTF????? O_O
hmm I don't think they were fillers?? I read the first novel and I think the show actually adapted the novel pretty closely haha the novel is just written that way

but I heard that they might have combined books 2 and 3 into this second season of the show, so this season might be more tightly-knit?

This drama is technically a xianxia drama, which is basically chinese mythology/fantasy. (MDL should really make that one of their available genres now lol) Pretty much all xianxia dramas are set during historical times since many of them have strong ties to Confucian/Taoist values and beliefs.

I loved Yang Mi's acting in this too!!! This drama actually made me become a huge Yang Mi fan. Although I do believe more people are stunned by Mark Chao's fantastic portray of YH's emotions, but I think Yang Mi did just as great of a job as Mark Chao did.

That was definitely the ending!! In the novel, it literally stops at the part where YH goes like "Qian Qian, come here". The drama actually added a tad more than the novel haha. Unfortunately, we cannot see their future wedding or them having their second child since those parts are in the Pillow Book, which the production company did not acquire the rights to.

Glad you enjoyed Chinese historicals (they are my favorite genre of dramas to watch). Unfortunately, it seems that aside from people in mainland China, chinese dramas aren't very appreciated/popular and that kdramas are much more popular not just here on MDL but also just in the general drama watching community.
