so far all i can say is that it's veeeery slow and there are quite a few people in it that look like one another so it's hard to distinguish early on (when you are not used to who is who yet). 1.25x speed and it still feels slow.. i wonder when the pace picks up. Will give it a few more episodes and if nothing changes i'm out. Plot-wise now, nothing new, your typical rich cold CEO and hard-working/driven FL with a sprinkle of a lot company talk, i've heard about the 2 irrelevant companies way too many times so far and they are not even the main companies (i.e. the magazine and CEO's one) , just some companies that investment will happen. Whatever.
True, you have to rate this on the ROMCOM rating scale only. Very well said. Can i ask, how is japanese romance…
exactly, male characters as well, i mean there is the badass level in some characters in dramas, but anime take this to the next level, so generally all these are difficult to water down and make it enjoyable as a drama. Also they all grow up watching anime and reading mangas so it's natural for them to continue being entertained from them when they are older. ALSO japanese subtitle community is generally reeeeeaaally bad OR just scarce, in a sense that there are not many people in it.

oh also Japanese language when they try to put emotion sounds really off to me. ALSO they don't even try in the clothing/styling department. The leads all have haircuts as if they are Kpop idols of the 2015's with straightened hair in the male ones , and IU-like mushroom haircut in the female ones, idk japan probably doesn't have such a big industry in this part of entertainment. They have millions of anime and a looooot more porn though, so the middle ground of dramas is probably not profitable enough or not worth investing (?) just guessing..
True, you have to rate this on the ROMCOM rating scale only. Very well said. Can i ask, how is japanese romance…
i watched it looong ago but i'll say this, generally japan does not involve other genres when the main theme/plot is something else. For example there are medical japanese dramas that don't have romance points not even slightly (Black pean, all the doctor X seasons etc). What i noticed from the few japanese dramas i watched (not many compared to Korean and Chinese ones) , is that they have the actresses talk reeeeeaaally shy in a manner as if looking at your own shoes and avoiding eye contact is a normal thing. Their male leads are borderline creepy/stalker until the romantic connection is established, and from that point the females go 0 to 100, there is a lot of skinship, kissing, even sex scenes , groping and all. It's harder to see romantic gestures in Japanese dramas, you get the 'romance' fill by the Leads' kissing etc, while you can see in many Korean dramas that the lead secretly supports the other one in many aspects, like business, career etc, or they remember something their 'partner' told them long ago and then act on it, like bringing someone their favorite flower that only blossomed in their hometown or something :D. Also japanese dramas are usually short so you have 1-2 episodes of one-sided chasing, then 2-3 episodes of full on romance, then some misunderstanding and then again love making, fast forward, pregnancy marriage THE END. It's just that Koreans prefer to evolve things or not even show them if it's just gonna be a glimpse. You'll usually see 1 minute of the Lead Couple finally overcoming all the difficulties and getting together, then their Marriage ceremony, and a 3 year leap with a barely walking child, all that in 5 minutes of the last episode. Instead of showing them getting back together, punishing their 'enemies' then making love, then an extravagant proposal etc etc (like American ones).
So.. binged it in half a day. Just watch it. Whoever is put off by time traveling stories, don't. It's not the main theme in this one, it's just the kick off for the plot to keep it going. Acting was actually veeery good from those involved. Seorina is just.. OMG. I like the maturity of the characters in the 'present' , wish we could've seen a bit more than a snippet of a couple minutes in the end of how our leads end up but it was to be expected. I liked the punishments on the evil characters(they are not too many and not too bad, not occupying 80% of screentime for multiple episodes like it happens in other dramas) . It felt like the 'enemy' was time itself, sprinkled with a little injustice and THEN even less evil scheming. Music generally is the main theme you could say but through the people involved (the band and ppl around it) is how we see all our characters and how they evolve/end up. Categorizing this drama is not solid because it does have some innocent young adult romance, not enough to make it a romantic drama, it does have the element of changing the future etc, without making it paranormal though, it's mostly about communication interpersonal, between families, between friends and lovers and between people that don't use the same language but find a way to connect. 10/10 as an experience, i'm not really going to compare it to others, i read something about 18again or 30but17 or GoBackCouple but these dramas rely more on the present-past trope of events. It IS an easy watch, doesn't really get boring, i do watch most of my dramas at 1.25x speed though, except some parts where you need to appreciate something in normal speed. If you are even remotely fond of one of the actors, let alone a fan, really give it a go. For those also interested about the 'visuals' and generally get hooked because of the beauty the actors and actresses involved have, you will really enjoy it, but i suggest you start picking dramas because of other reasons. Oh also i would also prefer if there were a few more flashforward scenes of the legend Chun Ho Jin.
one suggestion: When starting to watch this drama don't try to hyperanalyze the past-present sequence and who is who, who becomes who, or what happens to X character in the present etc, because you'll end up getting no answers BUT the whole drama has nothing to do with that. Take as a fact (as usual in dramaland) that the time travel happened and treat the start of episode 3 as the starts of the whole plot(that the summary above says). What im saying is : treat this as a school-early adulthood romance with a bit of flashback/flashforward and a guy that tries to ensure events happen in order to go back to the future/present with no changes, and the central theme of all that is Music and young romance, and crushes around the people of music in this. I see the high rating, im sure it will stabilize a bit lower as all new dramas do, but i would watch it anyway for Seorina. The first 2 episodes are the setup for the main plot and they managed to not get boring enough before the drama gets going so good job so far. i'll edit later when i've finished watching it
It's mostly unwatchable. The ex-rich family is too ungrateful and boss around the main family too much. It's unwatchable seeing so many doormat characters. Basically everyone in the main family gets stomped on and bossed around. It's been around 10 hours of episodes so far and nothing has changed. Will skim through some more and drop it as it seems.
Rightfully gets a place in my top5 family dramas ever. Many people message me because they see I'm commenting on most family dramas and want to discuss them. This one i put off watching because as a fan of Uee i wanted to be unbiased but finally got the chance to binge it, watched it all in 3 days. Give it a try.
What speed did you use to watch the show?1.25, 1.5 or 2?
and i say i again: i listened to the OST normally in the first couple of episodes where i watched them in normal speed. Background music is not distorted with 1.25x to the point of changing the feeling. Also this particular OST is not good enough for you to be replying more than once regarding it, like it's the worlds biggest revelation or like it is going to affect my rating. This OST is just that a regular OST. Nothing shocking, it fits the drama's vibe and tone, not a song i would go out of my way to search and maybe add to a playlist though.
What speed did you use to watch the show?1.25, 1.5 or 2?
i only decide to watch something sped up once i have decided if the pace is to my taste or not. Here for example i watched the first 2 episodes in normal speed until i decided to speed it up. Also OSTs very rarely makes an impression to me, some are iconic , others are fitting to the drama, and most of the OSTs are just there..uninteresting, meh. Only on 2 or 3 occasions have i thought 'wow this OST is really terrible and kills the whole vibe' , and i for sure have never said 'wow this OST made this drama a success'
If it is not good story then they won't remake it in korean right!
do you know how established viewership works in these cases? When a show has success, no matter why it has it(can be plot, can be the actors involved, or the overall concept, or because it's controversial etc) , remaking it guarantees a boosted starting point in viewership. Pair that with the new actors' cast obsessed fanbase which is always there( Ahn Hyo Seop for example in the korean version u mentioned) and with the default viewership any new Kdrama gets(after 2014) it's enough to make back the investment made by the producers AND with the low cost in the writing department as well, since the plot is there already, of course there still are writers because they either adapt or change some things. Take La Casa De Papel for example(or money heist or any other of the TENS of editions other countries attempted..), or if Squid Game started being produced in other countries as well, the initial viewership would be very high by default. So yea, Koreans remaking it doesn't give it credibility. Of course it's anyone's personal taste to like a drama or not, this is the case in this drama as well, i'm talking technically and logically how this drama was mishandled and had many hits and misses. It's not unwatchable though.
What speed did you use to watch the show?1.25, 1.5 or 2?
1.25x otherwise it might get too difficult to read subtitles , BUT if it is a drama with many random useless moments or repetitive flashbacks i do use the fast forward a lot. The platforms i'm watching dramas are +5 sec forwards so i spam it a lot.
it's obviously a smart concept but it's unnecessarily overcomplicated, to the point of becoming a hassle to watch. Also him being her psychiatrist is such a lazy move from the writers... I'll come edit later if i don't end up dropping it. Also it's a pretty obvious story and we pretty much know who's the culprit of the accident since the first time we see that character on our screen.. I'm enduring it as it's only 13 episodes and with the hope it might get interesting while being less tangled as well.
edit: welp.. it's off the rails. It's like someone had a great idea for a plot, got reeeeeally drunk and after that decided to pitch whatever was going on in his head to some producers, and they fell for it. It becomes stupidly vain. Suddenly everyone can travel through time and change bodies, the chronological sequence of events is all messed up. People die kill themselves or get attacked and it's like everyone around them is on Xanax and couldn't care less. It really is all over the place. Also the 13 episode format makes zero sense, since the plot started being so f'ed up that they kept adding the same plot arc just on a different character, to the point of reaching the 2 last episodes and suddenly having to wrap it all up, without much clarification as to who is who , and who is into whos' body and what year it is and whatnot. What makes it even worse is that people seem to have fallen for it, a 9/10? Are y'all drunk? Or do you just shut off your minds when things start going complex/nonsensical/plot-hole-ridden? I guess if it's so easy tricking the majority to believing this is a 9 then i should probably start my own pyramid scheme or some other scam, if my targets are half as gullible as the people who overrated this i'm becoming a millionaire in months..
Such a wasted potential, and a pure mockery towards any logical viewer. 6.5/10
it's kind of a light drama for the most part. A decent amount of many romance plot arcs going on as well. 1st FL's mother makes me wanna burn my speakers. Generally a nice drama, watched it on 1.25x (binged it to be honest) and it never felt draggy or anything even though it did have a sloooow pace for the first 5-7 episodes. There is no extreme chemistry between most characters, the 3 FLs' friendship and their friendships' flashbacks are a nice addition without becoming repetitive. The work environment on the 2 office working FLs' is not something interesting. Generally i wouldn't go out of my way to recommend this drama to people but if you stumble upon it definitely give it a watch since it's short(especially in 1.25x) and not upsetting.
edit: after seeing again how both the father and mother of 1st FL treat her in episode 18 and agin on ep 20, it will change my rating. Trash characters always have to be a part of dramas to keep some stuff going but as the episodes pass you, as a writer, either discard them, give them some character development, or punish/revenge on them. These people are plain annoying from start to finish plus they add nothing to the plot progression so their screentime is absolutely useless. Oh also a closure/happy ending scene with 1st FL and her love interest + Wenwen would greatly positively affect the whole aftertaste of this drama.. a definite miss
7.5-8/10 the reason i'm not giving it a 7/10 or lower is how short and easy to watch it is. There a quite a few things that are bad/wrong about this drama but since it's so short you don't have to dwell on them or get annoyed by them, at least not a lot. If it was a normal 40+ minute per episode drama with the same amount of episodes i would indeed rate it lower.
Didn't like xia meng's character as she basically used lubin as a rebound
not really. It's simple: Lu Bin and her liked each other naturally, she was afraid what happened with her ex would happen again so she lied about her occupation/money status, THEN Lu Bin found BOTH what she does for work and how rich she is AND who her ex was, and AFTER all that when they still told each other they feel the same HE even decided to rent a place for both of them, so he was ok with it as long as she didn't lie about anything else, which she didn't. But then suddenly he feels bad after being slightly confronted by the ex which is not even XiaMeng's fault , it's his right to feel bad or not, but Xia Meng did nothing wrong AND he was the one that proceeded after learning about the lie. He bit more than he could chew.
it's written in a weird and disproportionate pace, the way things started escalating faster and faster was off-putting. It should either start progressing earlier or be a 16-episode drama(because it started slow). There are a few plot points that are vague and lead to nowhere but nothing extreme. Doesn't kill the vibe or whatever. The story overall could be handled a little bit better. The romance side as well. All in all i'm under the impression this was a mid to low budget drama and if this is really the case then they really did well! Nothing groundbreaking, enjoyable characters and interactions, some side characters are interesting enough that you want to see even more of them even though their screentime is limited. If you could vaguely put this in a genre i'd rate it 8/10 in THAT genre. The kinda-heavy-dramatic-with-a-sliver-of-romance-healing-past-traumas genre. The thing is there could be some changes to make it better but even then it wouldn't reach a much higher rating in my opinion. Nice short, intriguing and dramatic, that's how i'm gonna label it. Bingeable
apart from Be My Dream Family i have only seen her play hateful evil characters. Her face goes so well with these characters though so i get it. But showing a slither of acting from time to time should be mandatory if you want to be considered and 'actress'....
