exactly what i was gonna write, after 60 mins of this , it's just totally uninteresting, there doesn't seem to…
already finished both seasons, and no, actually at least half of the characters have no improvement or become remotely interesting at all. there are numerous plot points that make no sense and generally it is poorly written. It is definitely OVERRATED , both seasons are. Not a terrible drama, for sure something i would never rewatch though. If for whatever reason you want to see something regarding girls sharing a house (idk why would one do that) , then maybe go for it. Would never recommend it to anyone, it is a waste of time since there is no real entertainment behind it. something like 6/10 maybe 6.5 would be suitable. I wouldn't even comment in any of the seasons if they were 7.5 rated in MDL but this sheer overinflation is criminal, especially to people who have no 'guide' and search for dramas through descending rating from the explore tab.
rewatching it for the third time, with a calmer manner and a less intrigued mind, i can clearly see that this drama is the definition of overreacting. Even for a family drama which is a genre typically known for being over the top in misunderstandings/cliches/reactions/evil plots etc, this is still too much. There are many things that get revealed gradually and people act as if someone concealed a murder or something. There are a few very nice characters like the Midlife crisis ahjussi who decides to become an actor at his late 50s, very nice character arc there, his daughter's character is nice too! It's so refreshing seeing a one-sided love evolving into the real thing without begging from one side, but by gradually understanding the other person and the affection between. The carpentry lady is also a very nice addition to the 2nd half of the drama(love the actress as well!) One kinda bad handling from the writers part is FL's dad, we get told that he is bad/trash/alcoholic and whatnot in the first couple of episodes, but baaarely see it on screentime, so it's hard for us to understand FL's stance early on, or fully appreciate how hard he tries and eventually DOES change for the better. Also it's nice that the brother never forgets how much FL sacrificed for him and the family as a whole and that's the turning point of the whole drama to be honest. It's how all major plot arcs unfold to come and tie together in the end episodes. On the other hand the FLantagonist is pretty much what you expect and i must say the casting was well done because you really and i mean REALLY hate her from start to finish, which is obviously the aim. ML is unreasonable most of the time when it comes to the truth, and he really has no chemistry with FL, the casting there seems to be lacking. I had rated it 8.5/10 among family dramas back in the day, i'll soon finish rewatching it and maybe rethink my rating. It's not worse than that though, maybe i'll just bump it to a 9. You always need to remember what you are rating a drama against, comparing uneven things makes zero sense, like if i were to compare this drama to 'The glory' or 'Crash landing on you' it would have been a 5 or something. For those going to watch it , knowing what family dramas entail and bring to the table i think it's a good choice. i'd say around spot 8-10 on my top10 family dramas list.
EDIT: i really appreciated it even more and i think i'll give it a 9.5/10 in the end (again talking about family dramas only!). EDIT2: as i clicked on the 'Next episode' button, i was surprised on how proportionately this is written, the big 'bomb' drops around episodes 36-39, gives enouuuuuugh time to examine things, correct some misunderstandings, apologize, patch things up, start over etc. and even gives enough time for the secondary characters' arcs to develop and have an organic closure. wow.
have thoroughly enjoyed watching her anywhere i 'stumbled' on her. I checked her profile after watching Taxi driver because i got reminded of how i've seen her several times before. Indeed she has participated in many dramas from my watchlist and many good ones overall. Even those she briefly participated in, she left a nice impression. Fighting!
i don't think it's overrated. Yes it's not perfect, the script could have been tighter. At least every episode was meaningful towards the progressions of the overall plot. I think it indeed is a 9/10 , maybe FL's casting should have been different as it was really offputting in most scenes. Music in the last 2 episodes was cringe. Up to that episode it was ok and not disturbing. The flashbacks seemed a bit out of place sometimes. Also the opening in every episode could have been handled better as there is no real time reference as to when these flashbacks are from and what we're seeing. Later on as you know all the characters and their pasts you can figure it out but that should be a given. Generally a very good drama, i think ML's 'crew' could have had a bit more involvement overall but it's not like these characters are superficial either.
You’re a weirdo. She’s a good actress if you’re still mad over a fictional character
i wonder if you've seen her so called 'acting' . in anything she has partaken in it's the same 'stay in the background and try to act pretty' cause when she actually has lines to say the vibe is off. Like asking a random person from the street read something. It's fine, Korea has is a huge industry and a big percentage are talentless pretty or idol people that take actual actors' jobs, but as long as the dramas make the profit needed because of fangirling it's fine by me. It's an investment after all. I just wish this fangirl plague could be filtered out during drama ratings because we get a lot of overinflated dramas and decided to give them a go, ultimately wasting our time due to them being mediocre at best.
You better put this comment in a review because your writing really describes the drama. Because that's what it…
because i always binge watch whatever i watch (even the 50/100 episode family Kdramas) and my emotions are super fresh when i'm coming here to comment , i tend to get replies and messages saying that what i said was how others viewed it as well, and having watched a ton of asian dramas i have a set taste already. The thing is i ALMOST never watch a drama as it is airing, i only did it for maybe 2 or 3 Korean actresses, and because of that the people that write the reviews while it's airing and just edit them a bit in the end have already gathered likes and whatnot on their reviews so even if i do put my comments as reviews they will be drowned to the last page of reviews and between us no one goes that deep to read all reviews. At least as a comment someone that finds the drama after me (it has happened with older dramas many times) can find my thoughts pretty easily with half a page of scrolling. Also i tend to write at least 20 lines or so, and i do it all in one go not even checking grammar/vocab and mistakes. My problem with the people i mentioned above(some reviewers that seek likes/attention mostly) is that because of the spread experience that usually lasts month(s) their feelings obviously are watered down/calmed, and either forget or neglect to comment on characters that produce the heavy feelings i usually comment on. A hateful evil plotting character that goes unpunished for example and that is making Leads' Lives a living hell for maaaany episodes in a row, leaves a totally different feeling if you just get a dose of 5-10 minutes of those characters once a week, and totally different when you binge watch it. Also i'm really against the Asian trope of letting characters who literally were responsible for others' deaths or miserable lives going unpunished, because asian fan culture is really attacking actors/actresses in the end and to avoid that they either make the evil character have something remotely unfortunate happen to them in the last episode for 1-2 minutes of screentime, or they fade them away and mask it with the happy ending of the Lead Couple usually etc. , maybe sometimes you might see imprisonment but never revenge or complete rock bottom. Even in the prison you'll see eventually the Lead or Lead's family will visit them and forgive them. See? even now i rant. That's why i'm not suitable for the part :D Feel free to message me though if you want to discuss dramas, the last couple months i have made a great amount of 'friends' and enjoy discussing here on MDL through messages.
can you tell us what happens towards the end that makes it horrible? like i get the no ending what was so different?…
the characters are all different, both ML and FL seem to have interests/hobbies we never knew existed before that, there is zero buildup/background on any action whatsoever. Same for FL's mother's attitude and overall manner. Thinking of it FL-stepbrother's relationship also went from 0 to 100 pretty quickly with a cheap excuse too. Then you have the random event of that guy that broke in the silverware shop to steal the manuscript in the first episodes which is soooo out of place and out of time. Generally it's all over the place. I can't say exactly what happens in the last couple episodes and why there is 'no ending' . BUT i will advise you if you are not invested and very fancy of some actor/actress in it, there is no point finishing it as it is a complete waste of time.
As many people say it really becomes a terrible drama later on. It's like someone wrote 2 different dramas but in the same genre generally(let's call this a genre with a highschool background) , then proceeded to write about 70% of BOTH scripts, had a stroke, woke up, thought the manuscripts in his desk were not two different dramas but ONE, then put both these half-finished scripts in a blender, sprinkled a bit of random evilness and toxic characters just to make sure it's enough to reach the 30-episode mark so he meets the work quota and went with it without revising it or having another writer that DIDN'T have a stroke , proofread it. Honestly as a drama it becomes really bad that you can't rate it well. I'm guessing the rating here is still inflated because it is new and people rated it as it was airing and because it was good early on they rushed to rate it highly. The chemistry and relationships between characters is good, friends, stepbrother-FL, antibullying, helping shy schoolmates etc, ALL was well. It goes off the rails. It's hard for someone NOT to drop it as it becomes something totally different. Seriously if you watched the first normal half, then watched 3-5 episodes of where the craziness started, then stopped watching for a month and came back to continue where you left off, and watched the next episode in the queue, you wouldn't be able to remember how the drama started because you would have a memory of the first episodes and think 'oh, im mixing it with some other drama, there is no way THIS one started like that' . It's one of the few times i can't really rate something.. i guess a 6/10 out of courtesy for some of the actors and because the first few episodes were promising is a fair rating.
it's funny to me how blind fangirls are and praise their idols even though they do a terrible job. Casting a B-list idol in a low budget web drama just to ensure SOME viewership will be recorded and mayyybe make a profit is such a wise choice. Of course writers/directors in this know they can't ever make a proper drama and they have reached their ceiling so they don't mind casting someone that can't act, at least for the part they wanted them to. An idol's job: being pretty, maybe being able to dance. Casting an idol as a popular pretty boy in a school/college setting? Easy choice, easy viewership, easy win. Casting him as a kind of psycho manipulator character that needs to show that side and show those emotions as they tried to do here? Total failure. This drama obviously is true to the summary and does what it's supposed to, it's not a scam or anything and in this particular genre i would say it ranks decently, the thing is the MAIN male character from early on (the idol i mentioned above) really takes you out of the mood and whole vibe, because of his appearance AND wooden acting, maybe not even wooden, it's like you threw a chicken in a non-sticky pan without oil, and zero spices, salt etc. and had the audacity to serve it to others. Fangirls are really a plague in the TV industry, SKorea is a decently big country , i don't understand why sooooo many singer/dancer idols have to overlap with acting... Some are really multitalented people, can dance sing, participate in variety shows, AND act (not super versatile but can do a couple of genres). But other idols are cast just to manipulate and boost the viewership which is totally fine by me since dramas have to actually make money since it's an investment , but mocking the regular drama viewer in the face and taking the opportunity out of an actual actor's hands is downright unfair.
with a tighter script and a bit less importance on side stories(even though there is a good payoff later on for them) and a 12-episode format it would have been considered a masterpiece. It still is veeery good and has not many similarities with other dramas, at least it doesn't fall in a general category. I like how all actors involved provide their best acting and really seem to portray what their characters should be feeling. Also i like how SFL is never targeted and made the bad person, it's so much on the opposite end of the spectrum that we even want her to have a better life. One thing that could be missing are the opening scenes of the ML and FL's past together. There is no need for them to establish how great their bond/love was because in the initial episodes we already saw the reaction of ML and all other characters around FL about her death. The music didn't do much, was pretty soft/ambient , could have tried something a bit bolder but it would be somewhat riskier because in the heavy scenes , especially between ML-FL and SFL-FL, and even FL-FL's mother, it might have changed the mood. All in all i'd rate it 9/10 but there is the Kim Tae Hee and Kim Mi Kyung tax so a 9.5/10 it is.
oh since i wrote about them one more thing comes to mind, FL's sister could have had a bit more of a screentime both to develop her character but also her past relationship with her sister(FL).
I actually had so much expectations but i don't know what was wrong but I felt it was such a normal kdrama 😭
i think as someone else mentioned it gets a bit draggy introducing new side stories for a few episodes in a row, then it gets into the right path again towards the end. If it was marketed as a 12-episode drama with tighter writing it would probably be even better.
As many said it is boring indeed. It's not bad, the chemistry is not anything extreme, the comradery and sense of community of the deliverymen and the restaurants is nice. Some points are too dumb though. Also they literally have the daughter of the 'enemy' on their side and neither she or them(the good guys) do anything about it. It's like they are all oblivious to that fact. Could have been handled a lot better. Still is a 7.5 maybe 8/10 in this genre but you really and i mean REALLY need 1.25x and a few skips here and there to get through it. Oh also the sidestory of ML's mother and his half-brother is really pointless and a waste of screentime. Adds nothing to the plot and is handled so hastily that it barely seems legit. It's basically as if they had an idea for a soft drama of 12-episodes with no really hard-feeling characters and added 3-4 overused cliches from other dramas to push it to the 16-episode mark. All the secondary characters' loveplots are basically nonexistent even though they set up at least 2 other couples other than Lead Couple. It's as if you wrote a brief summary of the plot you had in mind and asked and AI to 'add Korean drama tropes that perform well in this short plot' and got this Script as a result.
all the characters are lukewarm, nothing interesting to get you hooked, need true patience to go through it (1.25x speed and a ton of skips) , is MDL full of 12 year olds? Where do you see the 'Very good comedic elements' ? Generally it's a mediocre drama. a 7.5/10 seems fair. Also one of the reviews above says something about it being a sit-com for the first half and then becoming a rom-com, do people in here even use words they know the meaning of? A sit-com? Idk what's weirder , the comments/reviews or the drama itself. If you are still new to Asian dramas don't waste your time with this, if you're in search of watching something just for the sake of it because you've finished all the good ones then go for it, 1.25x as i said. If you are even remotely sleepy good luck...
ok you need A LOT of skips to bear through this. it's unwatchable, 90% of the characters are written by 15 year…
i rewatched it(basically skimmed through it) a few weeks ago, OBVIOUSLY these long dramas(same goes for korean family dramas) need at least 1.25x and Skip ALL flashback scenes, and a lot of veeery support cast scenes(not secondary roles mainly). Here i remember a few characters that when they have screentime they add nothing to the plot overall and generally get involved in the last few episodes. The secondary romance arc(of ML's sister) makes no sense but even if it did , it progresses so slowly.. FL's sister is basically unwatchable, etc. Good for you for not dropping, i'm heavily on the same side, i've only dropped things i found reaaaaally uninteresting, or boring, or found the plot was something totally different than what i expected, or there was a character so terribly written that i had to quit. Ah also dropped one drama because the ML was soooo ugly that it didn't make sense in the plot, and i couldn't invest 20hrs or so seeing him.
he had the happiest ending of all to be fair. Dodged not just a bullet but a literal NUKE, by finally being away of that toxic lying garbage of a human that was leeching off him and his family
there are numerous plot points that make no sense and generally it is poorly written.

to MY eyes they are a better match, that's all.
such versatility.
people really do be getting paid for random reasons it seems..
i hope she finds someone even better.
