Title Not Others
interesting concept, wasted opportunity, overused characters.
It's really uninteresting for several episodes in a row, nothing big happens, FL and ML don't even seem to have a slither of chemistry or even flirtatious occasions apart from the random call when drunk or when sleeping on one another's shoulder in the bus.
Old FL and ML have also an uninteresting story, youngFL's mood when it comes to them is really unexplainable.
There is an overall 'plot' going on in the background about a murderer/stalker and whatnot , that gets totally dismissed by the overall vibe.
also they handled the romance part so badly, making no prior investment so in order to justify the romance tag the FL had to go to ML's place drunk in the last seconds of the 11th episode(out of 12) and basically kiss him out of nowhere.
It's like you took a mediocre-decent romance drama , fed it Xanax and got this as a result.
It seems already that even the overinflation of rating for current airing dramas/freshly finished ones , is not enough so it's sure this will drop to around 7.6-7.7 in less than 6 months.
my rating is 7/10 generously.

im sure korean male actors can act, so why are you writing the exact same character over and over?
The policeman ML is a complete prick since the first second he appears, without much reason and redemption, it's hard to keep watching when all he does is be rude arrogant and bully FL, obviously there is a character arc and he will get better (i guess or the drama is trash) BUT still the line between obnoxious to the point of being unwatchable and just setting up a character is thin. So far it seems on the obnoxious side, will give it 2 more episodes if he doesn't even slightly change either the character or his actions i'll drop it.

I can't believe you're dropping a drama bc of how a person looks... this drama is clearly not for you. I won't…
nah never said i'm sorry for dropping it :D , visuals are not the most important thing all the time, but sometimes chemistry makes up for other lacking aspects, or the story is very interesting, and sometimes maybe both Leads are truly beautiful AND good at acting.
Here that's just not the case for anything mentioned.
I had a day off today and rewatched Marriage Contract for the 4th time, a good example of how both Leads visuals are good, and even if they weren't the acting and the character evolution is truly redeeming, also the sadness is constantly there but not overdone as the plot goes on.

The only and i mean ONLY time a drama lacking all of the above works, is if there are at least 4-5 actors/actresses with huge fanbases.
Example: the movie of IU and Park Seo Joon (the recent one about homeless football etc) was sooo uninteresting, bland , boring(for most of the middle part) and overall a moneygrab. Yes it's IU and PSJ and that was enough with a cheap promotional period to get the production money back+profit just because of them but to the viewers it's lowkey insulting(not talking about the superfans obviously). It was a good tactic though, the plot review seemed interesting and was enough to mask the zero essence within the movie.
Anyway i always ramble when i type.

Hmmm. Bet you didn't even reach episode 3 that's why your views about this drama are like that. Better try it…
right off the bat a few came in mind, strictly speaking it's school setting, there are at least 7 to 10 others that are college oriented in my watchlist though.

i watched 7 episodes, things happen extremely slowly, and when they do happen the interest is minimal, nothing intriguing much to hook you or at least keep you guessing so you have some will to watch the next episode, and the chemistry between the characters is mediocre at best.
All those reasons are enough to drop it. There are TENS of school-light romance dramas that are waaaay better than this, that's what im comparing it to. And yes i have watched a lot of Chinese dramas.

why is there no inspiration when writing male characters?
Literally 95% of male characters in romance dramas that tend to an audience for <25yrs old are the same, super smart shy seems cold the bubbly girl always chases them and never gets bored after their complete lack of interest and basically lack of will to live.
Get a few sticks and an AI to play the male characters and u'll have the same results
Zero acting, zero emotion shown, zero trying to be a part of anything.
the secondary characters are always the same i.e. the FL's friends or the greater friend group etc. but that's to be expected.
Also for the first couple hours(at least) of watching nothing noteworthy happens and gives you no reason to keep watching it.

She's improved so much since K2. I didn't like the character nor the acting in K2. But I'm liking her in King…
big mouth is truly good, and her acting is also veeeery good there, and not recycled like acting the same role over and over. i like how she has a variety of projects(not a big one yet) but it's not like she is only acting cute in fluffy romances and things like that so good for her!

then you picked wrong.
The problem is not this drama, it's what you're looking for.
If you want an elaborate plot, or a revenge driven plot, crime schemes whatever, or need something more intellectual, then you are in the wrong place.
This is a light romance drama with your typical 'rich person loves a normal person and their family disagrees while things happen in the background' drama. Make no mistake that's what it always was, it was never advertised as something different than that.
Literally the Tags: Hotel Setting, Male Chases Female First, Steamy Kiss, Rich Male Lead, Workplace Setting, Opposites Attract, Secondary Couple, Best Friends' Relationship, Hardworking Female Lead.
So idk why people like you come here to complain about it. It does exactly the job it described it would do. in THESE dramas 60-70% of the whole success or not is the chemistry between the Leads and the Leads+secondary characters.
You know how people found about it , and will find about it in a few years when they search for dramas to watch? By searching the words/tags Romance, Rich guy, Guy chases girl, and other stuff like that.
It's like being a classical music fan, going to a club and then rating the club low because it played a totally different type of music than the one you like. And that falls on YOU for going there, or you could just go there and not whine about your crazy expectations.
I'm not saying it's a 9 against dramas like 'My name' , 'The glory', Squid game and other stuff, or against family dramas that have 50/100 episodes with cliche after cliche.
You have to compare it to other ROMANCE dramas with the same setting(roughly) , a Law drama or a Medical drama with romance in it is totally different for example. Here the romance is the center of it.
Anyway, i hope people that understand how to rate dramas are more than people like you so future light romantic easy-to-watch dramas don't get overlooked because of you.

as many people say , it got kinda repetitive and boring around the middle, because around 3 episodes in a row were just few work scenes here and there and few romance scenes and repeat, nothing regarding the overall plot, or the evil schemes, or the past secrets, or even officially making public their love was done in these episodes.
Overall it's a very good romance drama, the chemistry is definitely very good, the side characters are all doing their job, even the evil ones, the love of the Lead Couple comes organically and not 0 to 100 , as most romantic interests it starts one-sidedly and then evolves.
The power struggle regarding the company/hotel is nothing new, and the CEO's past secrets are also same as ever, no need to change things that work and serve a purpose to prolong/progress the plot.
I'd say if it was a 12-episode drama like Business proposal for example it would have been a 10/10 for me (in the romance genre, always know you rate something compared to similar things).
But it indeed plateaued for about 3 episodes as i mentioned, also about FL we don't get much of a family backstory , the exact opposite is the case for ML though. Still i liked how the CEO was not an over-the-top evil guy ruining lives and futures , the evillness was seperated in smaller pieces, CEO for example was the Lead couple's love antagonistic character, the 'sister' of ML was the overall villain in the Business department, the long lost mother was a thorn from the past that occupied screentime, the evil characters on the 2 FL's friends jobs also did their part.
It's well written, the cast seems very appropriate and the chemistry is there, the First Kiss scene in the kitchen/restaurant was looooong , and long awaited, since the tension was built up for many episodes prior, which is a very good payoff.
I'd like the ML's assistant to have some more evolution in his character even though i really, and i mean REALLY dislike the actor that portrayed him.

I'll give it a 9.5/10 and that's because i do acknowledge it got slightly draggy for about 1.5 hours of screentime but it did deliver in the romance department in those episodes, and since i bingewatch whatever i watch, i did this drama all in one go and just sped up (1.25x speed maybe) a few parts and didn't get tired at all. i understand people that waited week-by-week for it and for 2 weeks in a row probably got no progress and got a bit frustrated , but even then i don't see this drama ever being less than an 8.5/10 , remember you're rating a ROMANCE drama.

Thanks for mentioning you are my hero. I watched the whole damn thing in 2 days. Hahaha. Do you have any other…
honestly You are my destiny , with Dilraba is pretty good IF you skip literally ALL the ML's work-related scenes(some sort of chinese NASA) which are giga boring+ nothing is added to the overall plot, so if you go 1.25x speed + skip these scenes it's a pretty light watch, and short too. Idk Cdramas usually have some heavy misunderstanding of some sort to keep things going, you could go to my watchlist and try to see if there's something that might interest you.
Some other Chinese ones that i did enjoy but might have romance-related misunderstanding and other evil schemes are: Begin again, Across the ocean to see you, Fall in love(lighter theme), Intense love, Love at night, My dear lady, My little happiness, Only side by side with you, Sweet teeth, Unforgettable love(very likeable FL and kid), Well dominated love(whats wrong with secretary Kim vibes) , msg me if you want to talk about korean dramas or smth, check watchlist as well.

It has a slow start but it shows how they grow closer together. I am on ep 10 right now and enjoying it.
i've watched many slow paced dramas, all those that i finished had at least 1 element that kept me going, either an interesting back story(while it wasn't going fast or being revealed early we had hints and interest) or a good chemistry between leads or other characters, or a good work environment for either Lead role, or at least an implied romance plot. Here things are very stale and i don't intend wasting more hours because it MIGHT get better.
That's not my job, it's the writers' , writing a drama disproportionately is one of the biggest mistakes they can make, and we've seen it tons of times, same happens with other dramas that have a veeeery rushed ending, like all things get resolved in the last episode and last 2-5 mins of it..
Anyway, not for me

I also loved You Are My Hero but apart from the similarity in professions of the main characters, I would not…
pure romance? at least 10-15 episodes are simply everyday life things happening while both leads are scared to do anything about the so called 'romance' . More than half of the drama is wasted just because people don't speak their minds.
That's why the pace is so off-putting.
Totally unnatural and there is no 2nd character or third character love interest for way more than half of the drama, whereas in You are my Hero there were at least 3 couples.
Even if it will progress to romance stuff, Fireworks is surely taking it's time and it's getting frustrating(if that's what a viewer came here for).
I like sooome of the actors and i watch it in 1.25x with a decent amount of fast forwarding and it is tolerable and not boring, otherwise i think i'd fallen asleep.
Again nothing bad overall, it's a typical drama, rich family doesn't approve and have done something horrible in the past(towards the person they don't want to date their child) in the end i guess this will be revealed, taking up 2-5 episodes of resolving/revealing, that + the episodes i've watched so far make up more than 65% of the drama and it is really uninteresting.

I agree that it's not as good as You Are My Hero mainly because a lot of stuff gets dragged out especially the…
I remember watching Light chaser rescue week-by-week and it was excruciating as it had the same pace as this one.
At least you are my hero had more of a variety in plot. They added a 2nd loveplot that was equally interesting , the romantic interest was not mischevious back and forth like many of these Cdramas etc.
Anyway i'll finish it soon but i don't really think i'll rate it an 8 , it just doesn't cut it.
Also i see you are from Australia, i really miss that place!

Just read the description and some reviews, also watched a bit and i would really love for it to be like 'You are my hero' as their stories are very much alike, BUT it is really bellow it, it's not a bad drama at all, but has many lacking aspects, chemistry is questionable, FL's character is very cunning, idk what happens with the mother situation yet but i read many comments saying how unhappy they were with how it was resolved, so i'm not getting any hopes up.
If it goes on with the same pace as now i can't see it being anything above 7.5/10, and i'm sure it will be somewhere between 7.5-7.8 10 months from now as all fresh dramas stabilize to their real value later on.

EDIT: it's surprising to me but it became worse as it progressed. wow.
a 7/10 would be way more realistic given how things unfold later on.

the exact opposite of versatility.
Imagine being so lucky that you make a career out of being a nasty wench.
It's so easy since it's not acting at all, literally the same one character in 100 different dramas.
I really feel sorry for whoever becomes her son or daughter-in-law.
