CSM data shows that SLY reached 2.838 billion views across all media platforms. This is the most important data for SLY.

The second most important SLY achievement is: its lightning-fast nomination for CPOP 26 (TTOETM won with the highest grade in 2023–2025, and Joy of Life was nominated ). Only these 3 dramas in 3 years were recognized, which shows how good SLY actual data are. From early 2025 until now, CCTV and Rating China have chosen ONLY Shui Long Yin. In fact, SLY is their first nominated IP among drama, film, game, and other categories, is incredible.
These two facts are the most authoritative and explosive. Gov officials know the real data domestic and international. After all, China Mobile, as SLY’s largest investor, has all the accurate data.
That’s why I have been saying SLY’s data are very very close to TTOETM.

TTOETM aired when there is no traffic actor competition, SLY had 5 traffic competition at the same time, in winter of TV drama. Government realize the strength.

I believe the actual number of SLY viewers is very close to that of TTOETM, based on various metrics I’ve followed. A significant portion of the overall audience comes from male viewers on the MIGU platform, whom are drawn to SLY’s aesthetics, which resonate strongly with anime fans. It’s also popular among gamers, who both most likely don’t discuss it on social media.
That said, the fans of TTOETM and SLY are different. TTOETM diehards tend to love the beautiful romance entanglements, while SLY appeals to those seeking a deeper narrative enriched with heavier Chinese culture and Buddhist themes. Personally, I love both dramas in different ways, but I must say SLY gave me greater satisfaction—perhaps because my art background, which made its cultural layers especially meaningful to me.

Rating China (CVB), the most authoritative rating body in China has issued an article praising SLY title

A Madman and a Hero: A Fated Song of Destiny, A Game of Chess in the Martial World, and a Righteousness for All Living Beings — Why "Water Dragon Chant" Becomes a New Benchmark for Hunan TV's Costume Dramas
(only capturing its performance on Hunan TV and Mango TV excluding MIGU)

Highlight:
• CSM data, SLY reached 2.838 billion views across all media platforms. TTL viewing hours is 384M hours (Note the also from Rating China report from 2024 the highest was 225M hours aired on CCTV8)

• TLC is the core key to retaining the audience. Luo Yunxi accurately grasped the balance between the character's "divinity and chivalry," perfectly blending his "number one in the world" arrogance, his decisiveness in the face of enemies, and the chivalrous spirit hidden in his heart.

• The 847 sets handcrafted costumes incorporate more than 10 intangible cultural heritage techniques such as gold embroidery, velvet flowers, and cloud embroidery. The 222 intangible cultural heritage accessories are also exquisitely crafted. TLC "Unfathomable Fox Dragon" soft sword is handcrafted by an inheritor of intangible cultural heritage forging. The craftsmanship details of her kingfisher feather and beaded hair ornament will also be adjusted according to the changes in the character's mood.

• Age 25-44 account for more than half, other age groups is relatively balanced. Bachelor degree or above account for nearly 30%. Viewers prefer the emotional bonds and the thrill of redemption in the drama, its rigorous logic of power struggles in the martial arts world and its profound sense of destiny.

• Particularly noteworthy is that the series broke away from the industry's conventional thinking of "content first, derivatives later," establishing a full-chain operation path from the initial creation stage: "IP planning - series broadcast - simultaneous cultural tourism/derivatives."

He is a costume designer's dream, when he knows how to conduct himself and move in them. Huang Wei would have…
I much prefer his costume here—better than in TTOETM. At least there’s no awkward wedding huge gold dragon faucet! Overall, the costumes in this drama feel like a real upgrade compared to TTOETM, with the exception of two: the red-and-white fur outfit and the one he wore during his confinement with GMD. In TTOETM, I found most of CJM’s costumes rather forced, as if they didn’t quite fit. Huang Wei’s designs can sometimes go a little overboard.

It’s interesting that the drama shows the court is indifferent to who the real Princess is, as long as it serves…
Imo, the ending—just like Till the End of the Moon—can be interpreted in different ways by different audience. After 2 weeks of contemplation, reading Azure’s analysis finally brought everything together for me.

It all made sense, especially when connected with the original poster before filming and the producer’s emphasis on the Taiping Guangji during early promo of SLY - also before filming started: Tale of the fox and dragon.
For me it is the closure I needed for Tang Li Ci. For me it also tied together with him waiting for Ye Mo whom re-borned as mortal to experience 7 human emotion and finally meet TLC again. He said to Ye MO we will meet again.

Data Queen Kwanto is always here to wreck haters!!
I feel sorry that you’ve become the constant target of one particular hater. Her jealousy is obvious—she did not get the script nor grasps the depth of this drama, beyond shipping. Meanwhile, you’ve helped us appreciate the true beauty of SLY.

In Russia, Bcs Tang Li Ci’s reading the Three Character Classic, the book has sold out 3 times, with resellers pricing copies at ten times the original. Once reserved for students of Chinese culture, this classic book has now become a popular (Fr Russian fans post). SLY really deserve it’s 1st CPOP IP for 2026.

Luo Yunxi’s fan club in Russia counts thousands of members.

IVI Russian online platform also certified SLY as their top 1 C Drama in 2025.

The Shui Long Yin Concert in Shanghai this Sunday isn’t a 10,000-seat event—it’s a massive 18,000-seat venue. With 14,000 tickets already sold out and the remaining tickets on sale today, this is nothing short of phenomenal.

In my opinion, 10,000 felt ambitious. But 18,000? This proves one thing: the platform and producers are happy, and the results have exceeded all expectations.

The SLY concert producer is renowned for working with China’s top singers. I’m excited and hoping they’ll open a livestream option—paid or even free—so more international fans can watch.

Note: the last drama concert of this scale was The Untamed in 2019, with a 20,000-seat venue, It’s been 6 years since the last huge drama concert

I have just concluded the post "Whispers Of Fate— Worldview/Timelines and other details, with my best understanding…
Hats off to Azure! Your writing on SLY is so insightful that, in my opinion, the C audience as well as the producer would be amazed at the depth of international fans’ understanding of SLY. You’ve given every drama watcher clarity on the full plot of SLY. Most importantly, I finally grasped the beautiful ending—and it moved me to tears reading this

This deserves wide promotion—on X, Reddit, Weibo, Douban, XHS, tagging it in comments on YT (Migu, Huace, Mango TV), and beyond. May it reach the C platforms and audiences it deserves. Your effort should be recognized far beyond MDL. LYX has always said his greatest joy is seeing audiences discuss the drama and his character.

P.S. Another piece by Patitoruani from Reddit (that I posted the link before) has started to circulate among SLY fans on Weibo, and this certainly needs to be there too.

Finally fin this... ermmm.. mixed feeling.. 😅. I'm digesting..Edit: Overall, this is a very enjoyable drama…
It’s interesting that the drama shows the court is indifferent to who the real Princess is, as long as it serves its purpose and influence over marital art world. As for XFT, her ending is fitting—at least she found liberation.

For TLC, Azure wrote in the discussion:
“The concept of the fox dragon comes from Records of the Taiping Era (太平广记:奇事记), a collection of mostly supernatural short stories. The white fox often descended Mt. Li and caused havoc in ordinary people's lives. One day, while washing in the lake, it transformed into a dragon and flew toward Heaven, implying that a mortal being finally becomes a saint.
The last scene in the drama was of a water dragon fleeing to heaven, meaning he has ascended to the true heavens, silently guarding the world. Ye Mo is incarnated as a mortal in the Mortal Realm with a mother and father who love him.”

The fox dragon with Tang Li Ci as immortal is the official Shui Long Yin poster. I love the idea that Tang Li Ci became immortal and ascended to heaven instead of a simple 'reset'."

Yay to Mizuhira san😍
I really enjoyed reading yours. I hope more people come to appreciate that WoF is far more than just a wuxia drama with a xianxia twist. The series is full of foreshadowing and hidden details, and you can really see the producer’s dedication in weaving Buddhism and ancient Chinese culture into the story, making it stand out from the rest. Sadly, many drama watchers struggle when faced with complex plots and overlook the cultural richness embedded in the show. Personally, that’s exactly what I love most—the depth, the intricacy, and the beauty of the culture infused throughout the drama.

yup my fav OST are def the ones played during the Zhou Di Lou flash backs !! Can’t wait seeing the cast perform…
I'm praying. But no other location announced so far, even with 100.000 pp on danmai waiting to get ticket. I got the feeling, they want to see how this concert performing first then announce the next one. But how many actor can perform (don't many of them will start filming in January?). I also think they might resort to just selling live broadcast performance to these 100Kpp + international audience and be done with it? Bcs organizing a lot of actor together several times is not easy.
