Novel has nothing to do with this drama. The novel is purely cases it has no main plot. Producer only took 6 cases from the novel then expand it with a main Plot. The leaked script has been changed 14x producer said, so no one knows....

Shadow Punisher, A Chinese Mystery drama with fast paced plot, keep you hanging at the end of every episodes. It's really good and you'll have a LOT of laughter, perfect for weekend.

Another amazing point: out of hundreds of shows, CCTV selected WoF as the only new drama for its CPOP Going Global initiative (which chooses the best IPs to represent Chinese Pop Culture overseas). The only other dramas chosen for the 2023–2025 period were Joy of Life and Till the End of the Moon. For CPOP 2026, Till the End of the Moon was the only one reselected from the previous list of 20 IPs. Both of these masterpieces are Luo Yunxi dramas!

The rating of this drama suffered from haters 2x. I saw it in real time—it went from 8.6 to 7.5 in just 2 hours. The same thing happened on IMDb, where it dropped from 9 to 7. Hundreds of accounts attacked at the same time. When WoF got back up to 8.3, it went through another attack overnight, dropping down to 7.9, and has now slowly climbed back to 8.1. One year later in China, late watchers are giving it overwhelmingly good reviews.
This drama is not for romance lovers, who make up the majority on MDL.
If WoF weren't a good drama, it wouldn't be Mango TV's most-viewed drama in 10 years or have given Mango TV its highest quarterly revenue in 12 years. There was very little marketing; the entire budget was poured into production.
Luo Yunxi's currently airing drama, Shadow Punisher, is another good one. Even as his fan, I wouldn't recommend a drama if the story weren't compelling.

I had no expectation of SP but 6 eps in and I’m completely hooked. The pacing is fast with no filler, the cases are great, and the characters chemistry is gold. Li Si is the funniest part of the show, can't stop laughing. Can’t wait for tomorrow.
A nice amount of bromance, and mostly non-romantic. The "romance' is mostly one-sided and doesn't go anywhere…
The ML also has another drama coming tomorrow Shadow Punisher. I expect a good amount of brotherhood. Both his enemy from this drama joining him again in SP. Some info about the drama bellow.
