my god, this drama is a true hidden gem (exactly like the theme of this drama haha). i fell in love with it right from the 1st episode. stunning cinematography and locations, very well directed and acted, heartwarming stories and beautiful music. everything just made me feel like i was watching some kind of modern folk tale on a magical island. the food porn was also really on point: various local dishes but there was this one particular special dish that they used to showcase different views on life very cleverly. i just... i loved it *chef kiss*

also, i've seen katagiri hairi in many dramas and movies before, i know she's very likable but this is the 1st time i saw her in a main role and i didn't know she could be THIS charming and endearing!! i love her omg 😭 i need more of her on my screen please.

(i watched this drama with raws btw, no subs. thank goodness oshima is also a part of tokyo, otherwise i don't think my listening skill is strong enough to handle the dialect lol. hopefully some subber will notice this drama someday, it really deserves more attention <3)

Believe it or not, from what I've heard so far, it's currently a hot topic for how bad it is. Japanese audiences…
I know, I was so excited for this as well. The cast deserve so much better. NHK was doing amazing with their previous 2 asadoras that were Okaeri Mone and CCE, I still can't believe this one has become such a big disappointment, I wonder what happened.

How was this asadora so far?
Believe it or not, from what I've heard so far, it's currently a hot topic for how bad it is. Japanese audiences are not feeling it. Chimudondon is now the lowest rated asadora on Filmarks with 2.6 out of 5 https://filmarks.com/dramas/10351/14459 (you'll see the bad reviews here too)

This drama stayed in my PTW list for so long bc i was waiting for the subs to be completed. But i finally decided to start it last week and finished it today. The FL's solo spirit motivated me to watch the rest of the episodes with JP subs lol and i'm really glad i did. Too bad the engsubs has gone hiatus (?) since E07, because E08 was probably the most fun episode imo.
Such an enjoyable watch. Even the guest stars were such pleasant surprises (there was a little cross-over with another drama from the same TV station).
Hopefully the engsubs will soon be resumed in the future.
Now onto season 2 <3
On Romance Boufu Iki Jul 15, 2022
I'm watching it with JP subs (at Ep 2 so far) and can already tell that it's not for everyone, the plot might trigger some moral police around here idk. But personally i think it's really good, well written and directed, very good use of the theme song to build cliff-hanger. There is a certain darkness to it that keeps you on edge. And on top of that, the opening is different for every episode, just beautiful.
Hopefully, a subber will notice it and pick it up.

This is the 7th asadora that I completed watching and it's now my #1 asadora. I enjoyed it from beginning to end.…
As for the characters, the stubbornness really ran strong in many generations of the Ohara family. So we have the heroine Itoko who was headstrong like her father but also got the soft compassionate side from her mother. She was reckless but also grounded. And her friendship with Natsu was a really interesting one. They both were full of pride and had their own childish side, so instead of communicating normally, all they did was bickering and fighting. But even so they still understood and cherished each other very deeply.

Indeed, the drama took a turn after Week 17. It was a turn from romance to motherhood which I can see that it got many people losing interest, but for me it was very worth watching. Itoko was always the heroine, the core of this drama, till the end. She was a great influence to her daughters (and even her granddaughter) and she silently supported them in her own way.

I did a little research on its JP Wiki page and found some interesting facts. Aside from the common knowledge that Carnation means "motherly love" in flower language, they named this drama "Carnation" because the heroine was like a plant that rooted and bloomed in the place where she was born. And the title of every week was a meaning of a flower (e.g week 1: Yearning = sunflower).

Also, I'm glad that I watched it in 1080p. It was an amazing experience. 10/10 <3

This is the 7th asadora that I completed watching and it's now my #1 asadora. I enjoyed it from beginning to end. Excellent writing, good production, amazing acting from most of the cast, beautiful music, the harmonization of Japanese tradition and Western fashion of the times. All blended so perfectly and created a beautiful nostalgic atmosphere of the time and place I never lived in. I loved how they used just the right amount of narration from the heroine's perspective and it was more about feelings than storytelling.

The rest of my comment is not really spoiler but I'll still put it in spoiler box just to be safe ^^

1. The drama production took place for 15 months. A part of that process was a lot of meetings (mostly thru Zoom)…
Very glad to know you enjoyed it ^^

The first episode was so lovely that it had me expect it to be a wholesome drama and boy, was I wrong. It gradually grew more and more uncomfortable and toxic and eventually reached the verge of insanity lol. Even so they still managed to keep the tone light enough, not too dark. I couldn't help but noticing the huge glass windows in most of the locations in this drama, like they were implying that all the characters were fish trapped in a tank. And I loved how they depicted the zoom meetings haha very creative.

Overall, it was a well-made drama, rather a psychological and mental issues heavy drama than a plot-driven drama. Thank Gabriel F for the subs!

lol The chairs featured in this drama are works of art that were designed like a hundred years ago and shaped…
I don't think I can give you any recommendation for that haha. Hopefully another user read this will do.

Is this a commercial for chairs.
lol The chairs featured in this drama are works of art that were designed like a hundred years ago and shaped a lot of the common modern chairs we often see today. So no, this is not a commercial for chairs. It's more like a little encyclopedia about chairs, interpreted by the screenwriter with their own twists.

well it sure was entertaining lol. who the hell cares about logic when we've got the vibes and the city pop music. I didn't know Nakamura Toru was such a force back in the days wow. I wish could see more of Yumi (Mari's friend) though, she seemed very charming.

And it was indeed hilarious that nothing could knock him out except for the cat lol

I admit I decided to watch this because one of the directors was Ohku Akiko so I might be a bit biased here but the part she directed (the 3rd one) was definitely the strongest one. It wasn't only well-executed but also well-acted by both female leads and accompanied by the lovely use of sound effects and music. It was a 40-min of fun and magic β™‘

I watched it raw btw. Can't seem to find subs anywhere.
