Inizialmente madame Li si opporrà poi anche lei insieme ai cognati creerà le condizioni per "dargli una lezione", lo aiuteranno dandogli dell'argento per ricominciare ma maestro Chai gli consiglierà , sotto spinta della terza sorella,di andare per mare in cerca di fortuna. Questo mi è sembrato ingiusto, lo scopo era responsabilizzarlo e renderlo maturo e autonomo, lui ce la farà ma il modo che hanno scelto e quello che hanno fatto in un momento già troppo difficile della sua vita rovina tutta la comprensione e l'aiuto che avevo visto finora nei confronti degli altri cognati.
