Yu is the son of the current emperors brother who was the crown prince. I am thinking maybe Mai's parents were supporters of the first crown prince or something and were eliminated.

I think that a lot of that is Chinese censorship, which wants very clear lines between the genders--men to look…
You are really reaching there. So thailand, south korea is all due to government control too when they have females in male disguises and look nothing like a male?
Yes there are make up artists that can make a female look more rugged. they don't do that for these dramas regardless of country because large portion of the audience likes their female lead to remain "cute" and start complaining if they think the actresses don't look pretty enough. Which is why I really dislike this trope in dramas, really removes the immersion to the story with otherwise good acting.

Not sure what this has anything with censorship. The female in disguise trope is never believable to begin with. Whether its a cdrama, kdrama or western a 90-100 pound female who happens to also be pretty is not going to look anything like a man just because they are dressed in men's clothes/hairstyle.

I dont think this is actually axed or anything from what other users have posted there is not actually any official ban on the actress its just the media company doesnt want to risk airing anything without an official outcome on the investigation. Her costar in another drama The Demon Hunter's Romance actually said to look forward to that show at the recent iqiyi event.

Title A Journey to Love Spoiler
How did LTG go from a capable general to someone who needs their behind rescued at every turn? Did his shifu obsession…
Hes still very inexperienced and implusive in battle which were traits he showed throughout the show.

If you recall in the early episodes where Chu Yue first meets LTG the "scouting report" from one of the shaxi people that fought with LTG that was given to Chu Yue's big brother that chu yue read said LTG had a lot of capable people under him that helped with successful battles but he himself wasnt that experienced.

You see him make the same mistake when he gets ambushed by the beipan people in the middle episodes too charging in without heeding warnings (NYZ warning him the middle episode ambush and Deng Hui warning him in the last episode)

Title A Journey to Love Spoiler
The whole point of this drama has been about the journey and it was always uncertain if they would be able to…
Agreed. 10/10 for me as well. Seems pretty clear from the start the entire message of the show was how bad war is for everyone and pretty much every "good" character on the show all wanted to prevent anything bad from happening to normal civilians regardless of what "side" they were on. Characters all did meaningful things, and the ones that died did so while accomplishing meaningful tasks.

Seems a lot of commenters were loving this that it wasn't the typical idol drama full of cliches but then coudn't handle the ending with the mc deaths even though it was perfectly consistent with how the show was presented throughout.

i have no problem with sad ending , but why they rushed it so much , it seems like they converted 12 episodes…
There is apparently a 40 episode/season cap on cdramas now. If more episodes are needed it has to be split to 2 seasons, guessing they didnt want to deal with 2 seasons and the promotion/release delays a second season may have so condensed some of the stuff down (ie middle of the show when they were assassinating the duke it was literally condensed to like 30 seconds)

Yeah would have loved it if a lot more of the characters survived. Was just interpreting the direction the director/writers were going for.

I was under the impression the director was just showing us what is lost in war...which is a futures (including kid) that never was. Seems pretty clear the kid himself is Chu Yue's illusion because he refers to the horse being from Uncle Deng (Hui) was died in epi 39

Chu Yue is just imagining it because she missed YSS. The kid if he were real wouldnt have referred to uncle deng (hui) who died in ep 39 about giving him the horse.

Thought it was pretty clear Chu Yue was just imagining it because she misses YSS. The kid even says the horse is from uncle deng (hui) who died.

happy ending or not??
The main characters die in the determining battle at the end as well as many of the side characters in the last couple of episodes so in that sense I would says its a sad ending. Chu Yue has a dream/illusion of all the characters that passed riding it out to end the show

Title A Journey to Love Spoiler
Thought ending was very appropriate. This entire drama has been about very dynamic characters who all have their own thoughts, wants, fears, and growth that are different from a lot of other dramas cliches.

So it wasn't surprising in a story set in a background about sacrifice and war, characters that you grew to care about actually died. Gave their actions along the way actual meaning to the audience and think told a very good lesson which is theres no such thing as plot armor in a real war, people you care about are going to die.

Yeah they already hit the 40 episode limit so guess they had to put the fast forward button on some lesser parts haha.

I don’t know why but I feel Yu Shi San will probably die. Not that I want him to but they usually kill characters…
In some of the teasers it shows him getting blinded, and hes mentioned multiple times if he ever falls in love he will die, so lots of death flags for him indeed.
