True, nothing wrong with BL fluff! Honestly, gay people tend to tell very melancholy and depressing queer stories so I think it is good there is fluff out there to balance it! But I also think the more melancholy stories are important too. I do think most BL fans are aware of LGBTQ issues, but some in these comments have demonstrated to me they are not which is unfortunate.

Oh I agree, BL has changed and developed over time and I do not think it undermines representation. But in general BL does shy away from being too explicitly gay or queer, which makes sense since in general BL authors are more concerned with telling an interesting and engaging romance story than necessarily exploring the aspects and trials/tribulations of gay life and love. Which is fine with me but I think stories that are more explicitly gay/queer should be told also.

Oh believe me I take issues with a number of things in this show, all though I still enjoyed it overall. I just noticed in this comment section that some people seem to be taking issues with things that don't sit right with me - which is why I commented.

You are putting words in my mouth I never stated. There are ALL types of stories and narratives that should be allowed to be told whether they be joyous or melancholy; fantasy or reality. Just because one might not like a certain portrayal doesn't mean it's not worthy of any praise or interest. BL can reflect reality or aspects of it - yes. But usually, it does not fully because it is a subgenre of the romance genre which in general is a fictious, idealistic, fantastical version of romance - whether straight or gay. There is nothing wrong with that once again, but not every story needs to be depicted in that manor. I understand you really did not like this "misery porn" which is fine, but plenty of people did and their feelings are also valid. Also, many BL's gloss over explicitly gay topics or aspects of gay life/culture. Not always, but most do. Which is fine because once again, BL is fantasy and is not necessarily trying to depict reality or gay reality. But I also think it is important to have stories that do.

Oh I agree and I have no problem with that, but some BL fans in these comments seem to think that is the only story that should be told with gay relationships and I am just saying that their should be a variety of storytelling and narratives available. And that just because it is not ones preference doesn't mean it is not worthy of being told or enjoyed.

Yes, very true! I am glad there are aspects you find enjoyable! You are right, people are usually looking for an echo chamber and can be quite defensive if someone has a different viewpoint especially on here. It does seem like you do catch a lot of details and aspects that others might over look, which is a good quality. The later eps were actually less enjoyable to me personally so far - Go Young actions and decisions annoy me greatly here lol. I think when you finish it would be nice if you were to maybe write a review, you are quite eloquent and I think you will offer a different viewpoint and analysis that others have not really touched on so far.

I get what you mean, but there are plenty of gay men where that is their reality. Yes, not all - but there are many who do. So why shouldn't that be portrayed? They also portrayed the opposite - one of his friends was in a committed relationship for over 5 years.

I never said BL's are garbage, I enjoy plenty myself. But not every gay or queer drama has be scene through the BL romantic fantasy genre - it's important to have gay/queer stories that are more aligned with real gay life/experience like this is. And I think BL fans, and most seem to be, should be open to that but some here have clearly demonstrated they are not - they want the fluffy fantasy and nothing else.

People are free not to like it, but some people are taking issues with things that are essentially unique to the gay experience or are inherent in gay culture - and so no I am not going to accept their ignorant critiques and complaints about those things.

To not like the series because of the ML's actions or the plot development is one thing - but to be upset because it is not following the typical fluffy "BL" fantasy drama you are use to is completely illegitimate. Yes, there are plenty of real gay people who live like this. Yes, gay people experience their own - somtimes unique - difficulties. Yes, gay people can make bad decisions and be flawed too. YES, there are gay people who are "whores" - as some of you have called Go Young in the comments lmao. If you want a sugar coated, rose colored view of gay relationships and gay people then this will not be your cup of tea and you should go back to watching your idealistic BL's.

Let me put this here before people jump on me, edit: Also, nothing wrong with liking BL content - I watch and enjoy plenty of BL's myself. But it's important that not ALL gay/queer content be seen through the BL fantasy romance lense and that there are other portrayals out there also.

Yeah, I realized my wording was harsh after I sent that... anyway yes maybe I have an agenda which is why I am more partial towards this drama than you are. This drama definitely has flaws, which you have thoroughly pointed out. I am not blind to this but I do think it is redeemable in other aspects which I have listed above. It is also clear from the reviews and comments here and on other social media that it IS connecting with a lot of people. If this drama is not your cup of tea that is fine - but I do think it is a better production than you seem to be giving it credit for. Sorry to have upset you.
