I don't think it's a secret family. I believe it's the family of his fallen soldier. He has been looking for the families of his soldiers killed in battles so that he could support them in their living. I believe that scene tells us this story because almost right after, his housekeeper tells A'Wu that the household runs out of money because Xiao Qi has built a memorial hall for his fallen soldiers and given his own money to their widows and elderly parents and young children. Time and time again, Xiao Qi avoids wars and battles, and tells his generals how painful it is for the family if a son or husband is being killed.

Love both the ML and FL. Still want to strangle that despicable character, Zhuo Jin Niang. Now, even more antagonists are surfacing. Fun!

I have a feeling that General Song takes bribes, not for himself, but for A'Wu because she has shared all her wealth with Xiao Qi and given to the soldiers and their families. This is going to be interesting.

Yeah, I was like boiling seeing her doing that, knowing very well that Helan Zhen has come to take her husband's life, and here she is trading with him for that bratty sister of hers. Wait till she finds out she's barren and this brat is seducing her husband.

I know he's taking a high risk here - to prevent her from pregnancy for the moment until she gets better. But the doctor also warns that she shouldn't be having anymore children because of her frail health. So, yeah, it's kind of chicken and egg thing. It's indeed his predicament.

Having flaws makes him realistic. He covers Song's misdeed (that makes him double standard), he sterilizes his own wife (making him not unlike those who poison others except he does it purportedly to save her), and yes, he gets jealous when his wife talks to her old lover.

I think her love for Zitan has shifted, from an innocent puppy love to the love of a fine friend. With Xiao Qi, he is her hero and her soul because they share very similar values - the nation.

It's indeed a very difficult decision for him to make. He has been pondering over it for sometime and decides he can't tell her her health condition, fearing knowing the truth may even sink her into deeper despair. I can understand his predicament. I just find it hard to accept he takes the liberty to sterilize her without telling her.

Yeah, not able to bear an heir for Xiao Qi, and so many other men coveting for her, and so many women want her dead. Oh boy! But no worries. I think her father will come to her rescue, just guessing. Haven't read the novel, so IDK :D

Yep! That's why he's not fit for the throne. All his motives are personal, not for the good of the nation. Scheming with an enemy to get his woman back when his enemy is also coveting for his woman? How dumb can he go? I'm vomiting blood :(
