Hmm.... wonder if you still remember The Beatles days? Perhaps that's too old for you. It was quite a craze for teenage girls then :D I guess what I'm trying to say is many people go through that phase. We were all teenagers once, and did all kinds of crazy stuff that I want to spank myself today. With today's social media, cell phones, online shopping etc, it's not hard to see why we have today's state as in fandom and stuff. What do you think? :D
Anyway, I'm glad you're liking this drama. I really like it myself despite many viewers loathing it.
This is so good! Hard to watch when a 10 year old boy in a 40 year old man's body. But later episodes are so good. I really enjoy the Lao Ai arc because that also something that affects Ying Zheng deeply. Great build up here.

You're absolutely right! Fans or antis normally work with a herd mentality. When they attack, they attack without really knowing why they attack. It is scary but there's nothing much anyone can do; it's just how we humans react when we feel threatened.
I only partially agree with ChineseDramaFan. The problem is much more complicated and XZ fans are not that stubborn…
Thanks for this detailed explanation. Yes, I admit I only look at the whole thing superficially as I don't normally follow any idols and have very limited understanding of the entertainment industry in general, hence not appreciating the deeper implications of things. You have provided a broader perspective here and I agree totally.
Yes, we're living in a vicious world and many people are vicious and malicious. The success of one may become the target of others to destroy. But like everything, this will eventually blow over. With Xiao Zhan's caliber, I have no doubt he'll be left standing.
Also, why the hell is the rating so low here?!?! It doesn’t make sense!!!
I don't know how the MDL's rating algorithm works. According to the stats, 43% of the viewers vote 10/10. This should have given the drama a pretty high rating.
Why do people hate XZ? For what I know, people were mad at a fanfic, but why the hatred towards him? Am I missing…
There are 2 very distinct groups here as far as Xiao Zhan is concerned: one his die-hard fans and the other, fans of other idols.
His die-hard fans want to protect his image. They hate it when he's been labelled as cut-sleeve. They hate those fanfics that make him sound erotic, compromising in his private life etc. His image to them is upright and clean.
The other group supports other idols not necessary Xiao Zhan. They feel injustices because Xiao Zhan appears to have got all the fame overnight just because he's Wei Wuxian whereas their idols still struggling. Everything Xiao Zhan touches is like Midas touch - movies, magazines, singing etc - though he's not better than their idols.
The more the first group tries to protect their idol, the more the second group tries to pull him down, hence the status quo. (There could be a hundred other reasons too, but these are the most blatant ones.)
For myself, I like Xiao Zhan, not because he's a superstar (there are many), not because he's good looking (there are also many), but because I love his philosophy in life which is very aligned to mine. I respect him for having such philosophy despite at such a young age. I love his humbleness and his consideration for others at all times, courteous and respectful.
They should have just cast a teenager or a man in his early 20. It would be easier to age him later. At first…
I find the background building up very interesting. All the actions taken by the various other kingdoms and the important characters that are later used by the Emperor in his unification are really enthralling. No doubt this is a hard and heavy watch, and requires full attention (no chores while watching).
