Also, why the hell is the rating so low here?!?! It doesn’t make sense!!!
I don't know how the MDL's rating algorithm works. According to the stats, 43% of the viewers vote 10/10. This should have given the drama a pretty high rating.
Why do people hate XZ? For what I know, people were mad at a fanfic, but why the hatred towards him? Am I missing…
There are 2 very distinct groups here as far as Xiao Zhan is concerned: one his die-hard fans and the other, fans of other idols.
His die-hard fans want to protect his image. They hate it when he's been labelled as cut-sleeve. They hate those fanfics that make him sound erotic, compromising in his private life etc. His image to them is upright and clean.
The other group supports other idols not necessary Xiao Zhan. They feel injustices because Xiao Zhan appears to have got all the fame overnight just because he's Wei Wuxian whereas their idols still struggling. Everything Xiao Zhan touches is like Midas touch - movies, magazines, singing etc - though he's not better than their idols.
The more the first group tries to protect their idol, the more the second group tries to pull him down, hence the status quo. (There could be a hundred other reasons too, but these are the most blatant ones.)
For myself, I like Xiao Zhan, not because he's a superstar (there are many), not because he's good looking (there are also many), but because I love his philosophy in life which is very aligned to mine. I respect him for having such philosophy despite at such a young age. I love his humbleness and his consideration for others at all times, courteous and respectful.
They should have just cast a teenager or a man in his early 20. It would be easier to age him later. At first…
I find the background building up very interesting. All the actions taken by the various other kingdoms and the important characters that are later used by the Emperor in his unification are really enthralling. No doubt this is a hard and heavy watch, and requires full attention (no chores while watching).
From some of the comments I read, many viewers feel the romance is toxic and they don't like it. Some also feel…
Yeah, contrary to those viewers I described earlier, I don't feel the romance is toxic at all, perhaps I see what these other viewers (who don't like this drama) don't see. I also love Ma Zaixing's devotion to Bo Wang because she knows he's also devoted to her; I don't see his behavior towards her as abusive like those husbands/boyfriends who hurt their partners. Unfortunately many viewers disagree with this view and feel strongly against it.
omg whats wrong with the rating?? this drama deserve higher rating. i am in ep 36, and everything in this drama…

A question for those who watched up to ep 36. Am I the only one confused about what's going on? It feels like…
LOL! Goldfish memory or not, you'd really have to watch carefully without distraction, else you'd miss a lot of the nuances which are not in words. I watched so intently (until my goldfish eyes almost pop out XD) and I appreciate the Bo Wang character and empathize with him, when other viewers may not. So yeah, on top of the goldfish memory (which I also have), you'd need to get some goldfish eyes XD.

After slapping my own face (because I was also disappointed with the rating), I'd have to say again I don't care about the rating; it's how much pleasure I've derived from this drama which counts more :)
I’m only on ep 12 but can you guys spoil it for me? Why did she agree to marry Ji Chong and how did she die?…
Only Ji Chong can give her the power to fight against Bo Wang as she wants to take her revenge. She dies trying to help Bo Wang complete his mission. (Bet you're confused like crazy by my answers XD. Press on watching!)
I finished 'Hikaru no Go' yesterday, or should I say, this early morning 4am. When I woke up, I immediatly had…
Yes, that's exactly how I have felt about what Shi Guang is going through. Worst still, he can't talk about it. Countless times his friends ask him, "What's wrong?" and he can't answer them, though he has wanted to. Imagine the pain inside him and he can't share with anyone around him. No one would understand. Those he does talk to say he has a very rich imagination. Showing us the period he's suffering, for me, it's really heart wrenching and I cried with him. Never a moment I felt it was too long. The length is so appropriate to develop the cathartic moment for Shi Guang later. This is so well done.
