The men can do anything they please because the women are the men's properties. Ma Zhaixing is given to Bo Wang and it's up to him what he wants to do with her; therefore his action would not have considered rape had he really done it. But he doesn't want a relationship that his woman just lives to please him. And what Ma Zhaixing has been doing thus far is just that: please him even though she is unwilling deep down.
I spotted an inconsistency: Episode 25. When Shi Guang, Hong He and Yue Zhi were holding up their giant boards of prize money on the academy front steps, Yue Zhi dropped his board which said first prize, and left, and when Hong He picked it up again, it magically changed to second prize. Duh!
