Being raised with wolves in the formative years of his life, this character doesn't understand the display of…
He has to sever ties with her and push her as far away as possible because he knows she is his Achilles' heel and she would be hurt by others to hurt him. But on the other hand, he loves her so much that it's painful to hurt her in order to push her away, that's why we see the push and pull romance here; it's simply so hard for him. My heart hurts so much seeing his agony. At the same time, he's remorseful. He knows she would hate him when she finds out he's involved in the killings of her family though he's not present in the killings. To redeem himself, he needs to make her hate him so much that she's strong enough to stand up for herself and fight him. If she can fight him, that means she is strong enough to fight the devious Emperor of Yang - that's why all the hurting words he uses to motivate her to stand up to fend for herself (at that time he still feels he needs to be loyal to the Emperor, so effectively making her his enemy). Imagine teaching your enemy how to hit yourself hardest and deadliest, that's magnanimous.
Wishing Bo Wang's death means you don't really understand the character. Maybe someone should start a discussion…
Despite losing his innocence as a wolf boy, he still retains his compassion: he loves his subordinates and his adoptive brothers, and always willing to die for them. He is loyal to the manipulative cruel Emperor who has adopted him. Though he kills but he doesn't hurt innocents. We mustn't forget how he has become what he is; he's been brainwashed (kind of) to become a war machine and a killer apparatus. This is not his fault because he feels he has to do all these to repay the kindness that his adoptive family has given him, in particular to the Emperor who has saved his life. That's why it's so difficult for him: to disobey the Emperor means to be ungrateful to the one who has given him a second life; to obey means he has to numb his own feelings. Wang Dalu has successfully brought this agony and we all feel his predicaments. Excellent acting.
Why are C-dramas so obsessed with male leads who go “oh, she’ll be better off without me, so better make her…
Wishing Bo Wang's death means you don't really understand the character. Maybe someone should start a discussion blog of the character. I love this amazing character. I can see his agony, remorse and his eventual redemption. This drama is one of the best of 2020.
Hello friend and I agree wholeheartedly! I've already watched the raw episodes twice because it's that good.
It does remind us Goodbye My Princess doesn't it? But with this one, there are remorse and redemption, and hence taking away the bad aftertaste. I love this drama!
I do agree that Ma Xiaoxiao doesn't have the same chemistry with Yi Dongdong as she has with Ou Xiaojian. For…
In real life, this is exactly what happens. There are so many killed police officers, soldiers and heroes who just leave this cold world without being properly appreciated, nor even recognized, soon being forgotten. I'm glad with this drama, perhaps Ou Xiaojian can live in all our hearts for a long long time.
Still not over the ending (TT) I could have accepted the same ending with a better logical run to it. It's just…
Yes, I agree with you. There is still a lot of questions unanswered for the viewers though the writer assumes we can deduce ourselves from the events unfolding. The conclusion does leave us all high and dry, and makes us all feel, "huh, that's it? what about .......?" On the other hand, I also understand that the climax is over, and there's no need to drag on, hence the ending we have here. Just that, most viewers wish to see more of Ou Xiaojian and say our proper goodbyes. As it is, it leaves a hole in our hearts. Maybe that's the intention the writer has.
Many viewers have a hard time with the ending and rate this drama down just because of the ending. I would like…
I do agree that Ma Xiaoxiao doesn't have the same chemistry with Yi Dongdong as she has with Ou Xiaojian. For her, Yi Dongdong is a best friend that she can count on, but Ou Xiaojian is her lover. However, I can also empathize that, in real life, a good lover may not be a good husband, and in Ma Xiaoxiao's case, she has been pressured to find a partner and to get married, and that's what she does with a ready-made one right there for her - it's only logical. This is a real life story, not a romance story that lovers love and devote only to each other forever and would never change course no matter what. In real life, life and death come and go; people move on.
Many viewers have a hard time with the ending and rate this drama down just because of the ending. I would like…
For the ending, Ou Xiaojian has died. Yi Dongdong marries Ma Xiaoxiao. After they get married, no one knows the whereabout of Ou Xiaojian until 4 years later when his belongings are returned to Xiaoxiao. Only then everyone realizes what Ou Xiaojian has been and has done for them for all those years; what he has looked on the surface is not what he actually is; he has always been with them, fighting from the inside. Without Ou Xiaojian's death, there would never be the story of Dear Mayang Street because Yi Dongdong would have never been inspired.
As an undercover, Xiaojian cannot expose his identity. Once exposed, he cannot continue working as a spy anymore and he would have been hunted down and killed by all his rivals. Therefore, even if he hadn't die and not exposed, no one would ever know that he's an undercover police, and everyone would still continue cursing him for what they can see him doing: mixing around with the gangsters or working for an unscrupulous organization that cheats the neighborhood. Then Dongdong would not have written this story. It's the death of Xiaojian that helps everyone put the pieces together to see what he's done for them all these years and that has inspired Dongdong.
However, I'm also thinking of a different scenario. What if Xiaojian hasn't died and this is just another cover-up so that the police can put Xiaojian in the protection program and he's gone hiding for the rest of his life? To send Xiaoxiao his belongings maybe just to tell her to forget him and move on with her life; he cannot come back anymore ... No one knows (if this is the case). Knowing Ou Xiaojian's character, I don't think he would ever want to live such a life in hiding; that's just not him. Under such scenario, again, I don't feel Dongdong would be motivated to write this story because 'gǒu qiě tōu shēng' (drag out an ignoble existence) is hardly an inspiring theme.
For me, not dead but in hiding does not give the same effect as what we have here. Perhaps then my heart wouldn't ache as much, but hey, this is exactly the effect the writer wants - to make our hearts bleed.
This is a beautiful story not to be rated down just because the ending doesn't placate the taste of some viewers. The ending is not rushed and everyone has proper closure.

Iam on episode 27..but I'm so sad and feel so hurt for our xiao Jian after knew the ending spoiler...but I'm really…
If it's a happy ending for Xiaojian, then Dongdong would not have been inspired to write this story. They would only find out he's been an uncover police after his death. No one would ever know the truth if he's still alive because his life would be endangered if everyone knows he's an undercover. So, if he's still alive, everyone would be cursing and accusing him. Xiaoxiao and Dongdong may even hate him, and there won't be a story of Dear Mayang Street.
Do you know the name of the OST played in the end?
Yes, that's one of my favorite OST. Translated, it should say Remembering You. Listening to the lyrics, it sounds like from the voice of Xiaoxiao, at the same time, it also fits into Xiaojian's thinking of Xiaoxiao . So I would say this song is the voices of them both. Makes me cry like hell. T_T

I don't think their love is ever forgotten. Not for Xiaoxiao, not even for Dongdong. Just that, life has to go on, with or without Xiaojian, and that's what they have chosen. I feel Xiaojian would have loved that. He lives on in everyone's heart. Had Xiaojian just been missing in action, then that may not have inspired this story because no one would know he has been working as an undercover police; everyone would still assume that he has turned bad.
I felt like banging my head on a wall. Why?! Why can’t the writers given my hero Xiao Jian a better ending even…
Don't be sad. It is exactly what happens to Ou Xiaojian that has inspired this story. Now he's our hero and lives in our heart for as long as we can remember.
Love ur reviewing this drama!! Sadly, Xiao Jian has to die :( T_T I read all ur comments and ur point of view…
Yes, sad as it might be, don't forget, it is exactly this, Ou Xiaojian's sacrifices, that has inspired Yi Dongdong to write the story. I guess Xiaoxiao's feelings for Dongdong is so subtle in the last few episodes that many viewers haven't picked that up, especially they don't have any kissing scenes. But for me, those gazes already speak a thousand words. No matter what, we all, as well as Dongdong, know that there's always a special place in Xiaoxiao's heart for Xiaojian.
Yes, I've been waiting for The Wolf too. If you have liked Dear Mayang Street, I think you may enjoy Go Ahead too. Happy drama watching!

Well, we all go through different experiences and we interpret the same thing differently. Maybe you just don't see and feel what I see and feel, and that's all right. Enjoy your dramas. Cheers!

Yes, my heart breaks for Ou Xiaojian too. I don't think Dongdong will ever be able to replace Xiaojian in Xiaoxiao's heart, and he knows it. All he wants is to be by Xiaoxiao's side to love and protect her. He doesn't really care if she loves him back as much, as long as she is with him. This is very real in real life: people don't have to totally not love the other person to marry another, and they can still have a happy marriage together, especially if they have children. Realistically, people are not like characters in a romance story, and time always heals, no matter how painful it is.
