CINi26 is right. The flashback is very important. Don't skip it. It is the backstory of the whole drama. You must watch the episodes carefully because they build up the characters and the relationship between the characters. It is the beauty of the characters and their relationship that makes this drama so great.
It's kind of a huge spoiler so don't read if you didn't already watched the first 17 ep !I'm at the ep17 and UGH,…
Watch on. Despite what seemingly Jiang Chen has done to Wei Ying, there's always this brotherly love between the two. So Jiang Chen will never kill Wei Ying; he (JC) just has that character of a, em, 'jerk' (sorry fans). Wei Ying will eventually rise above all.
Gosh the leads have AMAZING chemistry! Thank goodness they were able to convey the love they had for one another…
I can already imagine the scenes, Lan Zhan and Wei Ying raising a group of boys, some obedient like Lan Zhan and some unrestrained like We Ying. That would have been so cute, to watch them teasing each other. Sigh! Let's dream on. XD.
His own golden core. It was a painful process and rendered himself weak and powerless.
He stays 'weak' throughout when it comes to hard fighting. Have no worries. He's protected at all times by Lan Zhan and Wen Ning. He can protect himself too with his new found skills. He just cannot hold a sword anymore, ever.

Let me continue your rant XD. Lan Zhan protects Wei Ying every time the latter gets attacked. Countless times, he puts himself in front of the swords, or unfriendly people. He has a cold face, but often, when Wei Ying says something he likes, you'll see the very little tilt at the corner of his lips.
Right now, I have a tough time accepting Xiao Zhan, our Wei Ying, is falling in love with Yang Zi in another drama. The visual of them together is too much. Our poor Lan Zhan T_T.
Many of the c-dramas are very good, especially the historical/costume ones. I just love them.
You've said it so well. Absolutely agree. Too bad the Chinese Government is clamping down on historical dramas. In many ways, they (the dramas) consist of so much political stuff that the government feels they are criticizing it (the government). It's most unfortunate, because what many historical dramas portray are pretty true as in government corruption, political persecution, oligarchy government etc.

It's a very niche market. Not many appreciate the amount of work behind a historical drama - the costumes, palaces, cities, etc. I don't believe other countries are capable in producing such dramas in such rate.
