So in the writing of Zhu Zhanji, I'm not sure if the writer tries to tell us that, that he is a rather broody depressive character. Most people with his status and power would have stripped Hu Shanxiang's title because she poisons him accidentally, either takes Zijin in by force or sends her out of the palace, banishes his friend etc. Instead, he just broods there all by himself, his words not matching his heart.

All I can say is, this is a messed up confusing drama. All the characters are inconsistent. The logic is crazy. I'm only staying because of the food and the beautiful costumes.

I know, YL turns back into the antagonistic character. It seems the writer cannot decide what character YL should be, vile and vindictive or righteous and ambitious. I guess the writer wants it all. So confusing :(

For me, I can accept everything you say here. I just don't like how this drama is like other dramas that "Everybody dies. THE END!" - this type of ending. It's so lazy.

The "10 years" you saw doesn't mean 10 years per se. She was saying figuratively her draft is like a sword that takes 10 years to sharpen, meaning her work is the best work. I believe they are separated for quite a long time because LY seems to have published many books already and has been rather popular until recently when it's rumored that the author (LY) was used to be a disgraced government official.
