I'm not gonna lie to you. I was afraid to watch today's episodes because it had to do with the Crown Prince. Whenever it has to do with him, it's never good because the Crown Princess is involved in it somehow.
The Crown Princess finally showed her true colors. She showed them a little in these past few episodes, but she fully showed them in episode 39. I understand being insecure about your husband's first love, but he let her go years ago. The Crown Prince never had contact with her except that one time on the day of the murder. The Crown Princess was the worst. She went out of her way to make that poor woman's life difficult. I'm glad that it all came out and that the Crown Princess revealed it herself so that CSS could see for herself what type of person the Crown Princess truly is.
I was glad to see that they showed the progress of LBY's and CSS's relationship since the last episode. Before the last episode, CSS wouldn't have asked to tag along with LBY to investigate the case with him. She would've tried to find a way to investigate herself, which would've been impossible. She did still put herself in danger by not telling anyone that she suspected that there was a secret room in that room. She should've at least told one of LBY's men or YS that the reason she was counting her steps was because she suspected that there was a secret room. The conversation between LBY and CSS at the end of episode 40 broke my heart a little. Her answer to his question makes LBY think which is more important, your loved one or revenge? I know what choice he'll make later and that's why my heart broke a little. The good thing about that conversation is that it looks like he's told her a little bit about that case. Obviously, not everything because she thinks it's solved and over. Sorry, CSS, but it's not over yet.
I'm happy that they finally were able to prove Marquis Yue was guilty of multiple crimes. Consort Yue is no joke. She was against the punishment that the Emperor gave and said that if LBY wanted to kill Marquis Yue that she is okay with that. I wouldn't be satisfied with Marquis Yue's punishment either. With all the stuff he's pulled, he deserves death.
YS in these episodes made me laugh and smile. His mom is observant of her son. She knows that YS likes CSS just by the way he looks at her and interacts with her. Even though YS's antics towards CSS annoy me, their banter is entertaining and it lightens up the mood. It was nice to see YS's mom actually care about his marriage after everything. YS finally admits to himself that he does have feelings for CSS and that the reason he's been dragging his feet in regards to marriage is because
there is no one like CSS out there. Tomorrow's episode will be fun to watch him try to find someone like CSS.

Episodes 37 and 38 are just a couple of the episodes that I have been looking forward to. I can't say this enough. I love Consort Yue! I'm also looking forward to more scenes with the third prince. I don't know when that will happen, but please have him on screen more. I'm enjoying his character the more I see him interact with other people.
Regarding the fifth princess, her punishments were well deserved. I'm not just talking about CSS's trap or LBY convincing the Emperor to have all her aides killed, I'm also putting in Consort Yue's slap. I've been wanting someone to do that for so long. Anyone really. It made me so happy that Consort Yue slapped her because that girl was insulting her and, personally, I would've slapped her multiple time for the stuff she was saying. I knew when the fifth princess came back to her manor that something was waiting for her because why else would the head eunuch be there? This may sound awful, but I was smiling a little when I saw that all her aides were dead and the warning the Emperor sent for her. I'm so happy now that she's been dealt with.
I enjoyed YS's involvement in this episode. He was helpful, for once. I loved the look on his face when he heard that there were snakes involved in the lake incident. It changed from amused to upset quickly. I just love how YS was not going to stop LBY from doing whatever he wanted to all of these court officials. This is the side of YS I like. That is why I can't hate YS. I know he will have a redemption arc at some point.
I'm with LBY regarding CSS not telling him about the lake incident. I get her not telling him about the third princess bullying her. That stuff was child's play, for the most part. The third princess never tried to kill her. The fifth princess tried to kill CSS so she should've told LBY about that. I can see why LBY was so upset with her. I want to tell CSS that he doesn't want her to change who she is, but he wants her to share her troubles and worries. That's what you do when you are married and CSS doesn't do that. After hearing all the details from CSS, LBY could've compromised and included her in the revenge scheme. I'm grateful for the Emperor at this point.
The Emperor in these episodes is awesome. He is the biggest supporter of LBY and CSS. His whole scheme with beating LBY was hilarious. I was thinking he was directing a play or something. I was laughing so much even though LBY was in pain that entire time. I loved that CSS tells third prince to shut up a couple times. I want more scenes with the third prince and CSS. I think it would be entertaining.
The scene when CSS visits LBY is so sweet. I wanted to yell at Fei in that scene. That man doesn't know how to read a room. They want to be alone and why did he have to go on about how LBY is used to the cold so the blanket isn't necessary? Fei is never going to get married at this rate. I loved how we got to hear what LBY felt when he saw CSS clearly for the first time. I just wish that we could hear CSS say when she first fell for him. I don't know when really because there are several moments and it's been slowly building that it's hard to tell for me.
Last, but not least, LBY is the ultimate schemer. He not only got justice for CSS through torturing those court officials, but that helped him gain access to documents that he needs in order to look for evidence to use against Marquis Yue. He also used the killing of the fifth princess' aides to humiliate Marquis Yue. LBY knows how to make certain situations work for him.
I'm scared for tomorrow's episode. Anything that has to do with the Crown Prince or Princess, I want to avoid. That Crown Princess bothers me and I just know that she will make this upcoming
situation worse somehow. The only good thing that will come of this episode is that I will laugh at YS being confronted with the fact that he has feelings for CSS. Should be fun...

I said that to myself as well last week and I failed. 😣

I love that CSS doesn't get it. When it comes to the love department, you have to spell it out for CSS. Who else would the Empress want her to marry?

Wow. I'm so happy I read this. I did read a little blurb someone translated from the book from the scene where the engagement is broken off. I'm kinda looking forward to it only because it looks like the Empress is angry at LBY and I wanna see her actually angry for once.

I can't wait either! Fifth princess better get a double dose of punishment after the stuff she pulled in the last episode. She's worse than the third princess, in my opinion.

It is a fantastic drama. It's been too long since I've found one that has characters like this. I do like your comment about LBY regarding his love towards CSS and him getting revenge. The actor even said that LBY never expected to meet CSS and fall in love. That wasn't part of his plan, but the heart wants what the heart wants.

I love the uncle too! He's hilarious! I was laughing at how dramatic those women were being. Best engagement banquet ever!

That episode was the best! Whenever I need a laugh, I go to that episode.

I'm only irritated with LBY because he is keeping this huge part of himself from CSS. I know that he's doing it to protect her, but it still bothers me when he expects her to rely on him and trust him.
The whole revenge thing has been his whole life before he met CSS so it's not like he can let it go easily. He's been working on this for years and it's very personal to him. I'm just grateful that he decides to take revenge sooner rather than later.

Now I'm really not looking forward to those episodes. I know that it will be good for CSS to learn that she can't get away with everything she does, but still. I'm going to be tempted to skip that part.

I'm just hoping that she's not going to get manipulated by the Crown Princess again. That's why I want her to stay far away from this matter. I'm like LBY at this point. I don't want her involved in anything to do with the Eastern Palace. That Crown Princess gives me bad vibes and I just have a feeling that she's involved in this whole mess coming up.

I'm more worried about episodes 39 and 40 because I have no clue what is going on. I kind of know about 37 and 38 just based off of spoilers I've seen, but 39 and 40 are a mystery to me. I'm more nervous about those episodes because I'm afraid CSS will muddle something up by getting involved with the matter that seems to be happening in episodes 39 and 40.

I really enjoyed this past few episodes. Engagement banquet was hilarious. YS is wrong. That was the best engagement banquet ever! I feel like CSS learned a little something from the tiger seal incident just in regards to what she said to Wang Ling when she was shouting for the Empress. At least, CSS went to the emperor and had him come up with a compromise to the situation so that Wang Ling would have a better life and her mom could live. Her mom is just now under house arrest and will probably go crazy. That's what it looked like when Wang Ling saw her for the last time. I mean, I guess she already was kind of crazy, but she'll be even more crazy in the future.
I'm so happy that the Empress can see through the motives of the fifth princess. I know that she's her daughter, but parents can sometimes be in denial over their own child's behavior. The Empress knew why the fifth princess wanted to organize her birthday banquet and called her out on it. She also knew about other things that her daughter was doing that she shouldn't be doing. The fifth princess really hates CSS. I feel like it's just a whole combination of reasons. Two of the main reasons are LBY and how her own mother trusts CSS more than she trusts her. I think she's just a brat, in general, since she hasn't been great to CSS since before she knew her connection to LBY.
The bridge scene was so awful. I knew that she was going to be pushed, but I didn't know that they were gonna put snakes in the water. This is not bullying anymore. The fifth princess tried to kill her. I can't blame CSS for crying in LBY's arms later. I wouldn't have been able to hold it in for that long. I'm upset that she didn't tell LBY about the bridge incident because that was attempted murder. This isn't just bullying now. This is serious business. I know that she gets hers next week so yay!
The scene between LBY and CSS was cute. LBY knows how to flirt. Let's just show CSS some self defense and that gives him an excuse to hold her close. The birthday banquet was awesome. I loved it. The cute moments between LBY and CSS were fantastic. I loved that she got to use one of those moves that LBY taught her the night before on the fifth prince. I'm hoping the fifth prince will be genuine towards her. Unlike the Crown Princess. I noticed that her mask was slipping at the birthday banquet. I hope that she's exposed soon. I haven't read the book, but she just gives me bad vibes.
The trailers for next week are interesting. It looks like there will be more interactions between YS and CSS. Finally, someone tells YS that he has feelings for CSS. The episode where he marches up to her to tell her that he's betrothed is going to be hilarious. Why would she care? She loves LBY. She's not going to get jealous if you get engaged so don't get some poor girl's hopes up. I will say that, what they are doing right now, is torture. Since I know what's coming from spoilers, it's hard for me to enjoy all the sweet moments because I just want them to get it over with. I know next week isn't going to be the week. It will probably be the week after. This is what I get for watching such a fantastic drama before it's done.

I was upset with LBY at the end of this recent episode. He keeps saying that he'll protect CSS, but he can't always be with her. It would be better if he would just tell her the basics of the palace politics that are currently going on so that she'll be able to protect herself better in the future. I was telling CSS not to give the Crown Prince advice the entire time because I don't think she knew the whole story. I don't know if it would've made a difference to her, if she knew the whole story, but I would like to think it would have. LBY should open up to her more, especially since she's going through all this training at the palace for him. LBY says that he's trying to protect her by keeping her out of everything, but he needs to give a reason besides protecting her. I know that their relationship needs a lot of work and, right now, she's only fifteen and he's twenty-one. I have hope that their relationship will improve at some point. LBY doesn't have any experience in love so I'm trying to be understanding since he has no clue how to go about this relationship with CSS.

Wow. I usually split up my review of the two episodes, but since they meld together so well, I will not be doing that this time.

Have I mentioned how much I love Consort Yue? The woman just puts everyone in their place, especially that annoying woman. She is also not swayed by her brother's words when he tries to get her to go against the Empress. She just says, "I've got what I wanted." I'm also happy that she wasn't angry at SS for the altar incident. I mean, what she said is true. If SS hadn't done that and the third and the prince didn't have evidence, the third princess wouldn't have been exposed and who knows how much more trouble she would have caused for her family. Consort Yue seems to be a woman who just wants no trouble for herself or her family. So refreshing, since I'm used to dramas where the consort is constantly trying to replace the Empress. Unless Consort Yue gives me a reason to doubt her, she's awesome in my book.
The whole Crown Prince issue that was presented these couple of episodes frustrated me. I agree with several characters in the drama. The Crown Prince is not fit to rule. His own mother thinks that, as well. He is too soft hearted. He doesn't look at the bigger picture when making decisions, especially when it comes to this current issue. He thinks of his family first, which he shouldn't. You have to separate family and state affairs when you are a ruler. His sister didn't help matters. I mean, she never helps matters. She needs to get married off ASAP. She constantly causes her mom distress. I wish that SS was told the particulars of the whole situation because I feel like that would have influenced her words toward the Crown Prince if she knew more about the situation. Since she only knew the bare minimum, she was thinking from a filial perspective. Of course, now SS's actions will have repercussions, even though that wasn't her intention.
The quarrel between LBY and SS at the end was necessary, in my opinion. LBY reprimanding her over giving advice to the Crown Prince and telling her what will happen now was unfair to SS. SS didn't know everything so she just thought she was helping the Empress. As she points out, LBY doesn't tell her anything. How would she know what to watch out for or what issues there currently are in the palace when he won't tell her? I know that he wants to protect her, but SS brings up a good point. She could've married a normal man, but LBY decided to drag her into the palace with him. Since he's not telling her anything, she's going around blind to all the current issues and she just sees what's on the surface. LBY only tells her that it's complicated, but he is hurting her by not telling her everything that's going on. As SS said, she feels like he's saying that she's not good enough. I know that LBY won't tell her about the revenge scheme, but he should, at least, tell her enough about palace politics so that she'll be more careful in the future.

Based on the trailers for tomorrow's episodes, it looks like LBY is gonna try to make it up to SS. I will say that episode 34 looks like there will be some drama at the betrothal ceremony. I'm excited for that.

Thank you! Do they ever fully explain why Consort Yue didn't raise her? I know that Consort Yue said something along the lines of she had her third aunt raise her so that she could follow the Emperor.
