I already read the spoiler so I know what he's going to reveal 🤭 Unless they deviate from the novel spoilers in the discussion, I feel comfortable skipping his scenes. I don't find him to be an interesting character or actor.

I see some people saying that Chen Heyi is a good actor because everyone hates SRQ and so he's doing his job as a villain. I actually beg to differ. I think he's still very green, and it has nothing to do with how popular he was for him garnering hate. I agree with another commenter that in a more capable actor's hands, I would feel some sympathy towards his character. He has the tragic set up from his previous life and he carries that burden with him. He's supposed to be complex but I'm not seeing that come through his acting. He has about 3-5 facial expressions that he reuses throughout the entire drama.

I think about Liu Xueyi in Destined, and while I hated his character, I could sympathize with him and even felt sad when he met his end. Because if he was born with different circumstances, he would've been a great asset to the country.

I also think about Liang Yongqi, who was fairly unknown (at least to me), from The Double. I hated his guts and felt like he was so fake always justifying his actions saying he was forced to commit certain crimes. But I could also sympathize with him because he always looked like he was on the brink of shattering. He played his inner turmoil so well. By the end of the drama, I was just utterly impressed by his acting.

I also wish they'd stop playing romantic music when SRQ shows up near the princess. I'm 100% sure she doesn't have that kind of love for him, but because SRQ gets the best OST, the scene always seems romantic and people accuse LR of not being able to let go of SRQ.

Ok. End rant. I will be continuing this show for my leads, but will be skipping a lot of SRQ scenes.

I'm guessing it wasn't her intent to get him such a high position and this is all a ploy from SRQ? It seems out of character for her not to know that getting him a Ferrari instead of a Corolla would invite suspicion from the emperor.

thank you! that makes so much more sense! I was watching that and felt like it was so random. The way the scene played out, it just made PWX look like a petty jealous husband.

Does Chen Heyi have a strong backing or something? I do feel like he gets a lot of scenes. I keep thinking the drama is trying to make me sympathize with him and that he's trying to "help" LR, but I still find him exasperating. Maybe with a stronger actor, I might be able to sympathize with the character more.

Am I in the wrong here? I'm actually hoping that Lin Feibai gets the girl.

The empress did what? That live cat thing is wrong on so many levels... I admit every thing is in line with her character's upbringing and experience. I don't hate LR. However, I can't say I have the same patience as PWX to wait for 10 years or 20 years to knock down those walls! I get that she needs someone persistent to get through to her though.

She's no longer scathing to PWX. She just won't openly admit her feelings despite her actions clearly shows she loves him. Her walls are ridiculously high. Anyway, I'm hoping 22 is the turning point since she at least has acknowledged that she has issues 🤣.

I do think they made PWX too much of a push over for LR. My problem is I don't really get why he's so completely and utterly devoted when they spent the last 17 years of their first lives estranged. I wish he stayed mad at her longer for that flower field incident. I would have rather it been a mutual falling back in love with each other again kind of process, rather than him one-sidedly aggressively going after her.

The one thing I don't agree on is that PWX had a similar upbringing as LR. From what I gathered, his uncles didn't treat him well after his dad died, but while his dad was around, he still grew up in a loving environment. He said his father doted on his mother so much that she doesn't know how to do anything now. It also doesn't sound like his father died that long ago since LR said something along the lines of how long has his dad been dead for his uncles to already treat them this way. LR on the other hand had broken parents that also taught her to distrust, not to even let people know what flower you like. I think how you grew up as a child and how your parents got along can really impact a person. I've seen this first hand as someone who works with children.

BUT that doesn't mean I don't find her exasperating. I can endure it for 15+ episodes, but now that we're at 20+, I'm getting very annoyed too. More than half the drama is over and she's still not 100% confidence in her feelings for him. She's definitely showing growth, but it's so darn slow 🤣

He does have ambition. He wants this world to be based on merit and not because they were born in a noble family or have connections.

I think the drama, with all his speeches about how he wants her to be able to do what she wants, makes it seem like he is helping her as purely because of his love for her. However, they have similar ambitions, where everone can live in a fair and just world. Her goals align with his. In helping her, he'll also gain power and achieve that world he dreams of. I think that's why there was all this misunderstanding from the first life, because she felt like he was just using her for power. But really both things (his ambition and his love for her) can coexist.

Also, a man with a strong sense of self confidence and security, supports his wife in her ambitions as well.

I don't consider it cheating since she asked for a "divorce" but he said it wasn't advantageous to them politically to do that. He's the one who said they could lead separate lives. It was a mutual agreement between the two. I don't think the moral police should come for her when she did try to separate officially.

While I'm also getting frustrated by her hesitancy, I can understand where she's coming from. She trusted a close companion for 17 years and it turned out he poisoned her. When she realized her judgment in a man cost her her life, can she even trust her own heart anymore when she was so wrong before? Not to mention, her parents aren't exactly great role models of two people who were once in love and turned their backs on each other when their paths diverged.

As for her soft spot for SRQ and not utterly despising him, I do think she feels guilt towards what happened to him in the first lifetime. Everyone in his family was killed and he was castrated because of LC (her brother). People who say she shouldn't forget what SRQ is capable of, are you also harboring the same hate towards LC? LR is assuming this is the young SRQ who still hasn't committed any crimes, just like her brother is still his innocent self. Many people's actions in their first lifetime were despicable, but they were all victims of their circumstances.

P.S. I don't care what happened in the book. This drama is based on that, but it's not the same. My opinion in based purely on the events transpiring in the drama.

He overheard SRQ talking about PWX's death and telling his henchman to go continue searching for his news since there's no body. Why did he pretend like he didn't already know he sent someone? I thought he might side with SGY but then he encourages his brother to propose marriage. I can't really tell where his loyalties lie. He seems like a nice straight forward guy compared to his brother.

I'm ready for some sugar high in the next episodes! Also, I have a question about SRH.

I'm thinking it might just be end of episode editing, and they'll show us the full scene with her rejecting him. I also felt like she was suspicious he's behind PWX's attack, so a lot of stuff is going through her mind as she tries to decipher his intentions. I might be looking too much into it 🤔

I don't know how true it is... I read ZLH already had work lined up and the director wanted to release the drama ASAP because the director has a bunch of dramas he previously filmed that are still collecting dust.

Definitely not okay. I remember watching Reply 1988, and they said having two in-laws from the same family (two brothers from one family marrying two sisters from one family) is even frowned upon despite literally no one was blood related. Taek and Sunwoo weren't even blood brothers, but step brothers. I don't think marrying your step brother is going to be well received.
