That's a completely different situation. King Chen's forces were outnumbered. Xiao Heng got his Long Wu Army back right behind him. There's also imperial guards in the palace. Situ Jiuyue was there with her reinforcements from Zhao. King Chen tried to use the concubine to escape, which is why he said he'd come back to take the Emperor's head next year. They already knew they were going to lose. His men were outnumbered and would be continuing to commit treason vs. in the final battle that was the enemy's state. If the producer wants us to believe the last part of him riding back is real, I just think the final battle was out of place and didn't make any logical sense. I watched the special. It was filmed very recently.
I also don't recall when Wen Ji said your commander is dead and they dropped their weapons. After XH killed King Chen, they moved to a voice over of YSJ announcing the treason in court and XFF talking about the aftermath.

why would they surrender when there's so many of them and only one of him? this is a great opportunity for someone from Dai to step up and kill an important person from an enemy state and get rewarded. Even if he killed the commander, there's always a second in command etc. There are military ranks. He literally got back up, put the pendant in his mouth to prepare himself to fight as more enemies came on horseback. They came charging with their weapons, they never dropped it. He looks up at the sky and the scene changes to XFF.

I agree the last 15 minutes was completely useless. What purpose did killing Wen Ji and Lu Ji serve? It did nothing for the plot since the story was already over. They could've showed an epic battle scene and had every one surviving. Then maybe it'd be more believable for viewers to see it's a happy ending when he rode back on the horse. I know the producer said it's supposed to be a HE, but I guess I'm supposed to suspend belief that XH, the last one standing with a ton of injuries, somehow survived a whole army with a ton of archers 😔.

Just because some rando picked up a fish token, you listen to them even if they’re essentially telling you to commit treason and letting rebel forces through the gate? SYR is just a scholar. The army lieutenant could’ve easily taken him. That whole part didn’t make sense to me at all

I honestly was very confused who that guy they were fighting on the battlefield was. I kept squinting and trying to see if I recognize him . Also Lu Ji dying by all those arrows and the Duke surviving doesn’t make sense. The logical thing for any army to do is just to keep shooting. if we’re arguing that it’s normal for people to die in war. The whole scene felt unnecessary.
It also did feel very rushed to me. I wish they spent more time on the Duke’s back story. His little chat with grandpa resolved all their misunderstandings so quickly and all just because XFF put them in a room together. I actually felt like it could’ve ended after the rebellion. to me, it was always about XFF’s revenge and that ended after SYR jumped. I still enjoyed the drama but definitely loved the first 35 episodes more.

Totally agree on the Princess. I expected her to have been through a lot since she has mentioned many times that her country owes her for having been a prisoner in Dai. But Li Meng really manage to bring out the pain and resentment that Wanning must've felt. I still want her to suffer for all the innocent lives she took, but I do get why she's crazy and wonder if she might've been a kinder person if it wasn't for her circumstances.
SYR, I don't know, I kind of just hate him (the character not the actor)😂. I still think he had many opportunities to do right by her. Even now, he's selfish by trying to make her marry him again. He clearly knows XFF doesn't need his protection anymore. She has XH. If he thinks that his low birth is what put him in a position to have to murder her, then he should know XH has more power and therefore better ability to protect her. SYR is what the Chinese called 伪君子, someone acting like he's all upright in front of everyone, but will sacrifice you behind your back and make up some excuse on why he had to do that. At least Wanning doesn't try to pretend she's something she's not.

I expected her to have an arc like the step mother. I do think it's already pretty bad... she was r*ped, beat, treated like an animal, and had multiple miscarriages that made her basically sterile. I don't know how long she lived like that 🤧
