I wonder if I'll like this drama. I'm not generally into "noona romance", but I guess it depends. I'm considering it because it's from the team behind Go Ahead and Meet Yourself, two very good dramas that I rated highly. But maybe it's more similar to The Rational Life (in Recommendations), which was only an "okay" drama for me (despite being a fan of Qin Lan).
I don't rewatch dramas, normally, but I have done it twice and this was the second time. The first time I watched it was in 2015. I probably enjoyed it a lot more this time around - I didn't remember it being this funny. Kim Myung Min is amazing and that is why I rewatched it, but I was surprised that I liked it as much as I did. :)
I did not understand one thing in the end. Yuan was told that Zhongjie got married and then he died. Her response: "So when is he coming back?" and then she went to look for him. If he was not dead, why was she told that, and how did she know that it wasn't true?! Confusing.
This drama was more about "anti-Japanese patriots" than sisters going "head to head against each other to determine the true heir", which was not what I expected, and something the whole thing just felt flat to me. Still, not bad, but there were a few stupid things like Weian's sudden decision to divorce his wife "to protect her"... I hate things like that. Oh, and how did Zhongyu find Mrs Gu again?!
Hm, so many questions... I could go on, but what's the point. Anyway, I liked that the mother started to like her secret patient, the clothes were amazing and Qin Lan is incredibly beautiful. I think she was the most beautiful when she picked tea in the end.
Any clues why Netflix marked this drama as ‘suicide’ ? because of the planned expectation it I kept waiting…
I know, I sort of had the same feeling, but I guess it's because of Gu's ex girlfriend. He only talks about her a couple of times though, so I guess they mark is as "suicide" just because someone mentions it/it's in someone's past.
A very interesting and well-written article. I like Murakami's novels, so I was interested in the topic. Well,…
Oh, wait! I read the page a bit more carefully. The list he withdrew from was an "alternative" prize (not associated with the Swedish Academy). In that case, yeah, it was probably a list by librarians!
A very interesting and well-written article. I like Murakami's novels, so I was interested in the topic. Well, the only adaptation I have watched is actually Norwegian Wood, and I watched it before I had read any of his novels. I have to admit that I didn't like it, and that was probably because I found it impossible to understand the feelings of the protagonists. I see that I was not the only one to feel that way!
Just a comment on the endnote, though. I got curious about what you wrote about the Nobel Prize "shortlist", because as far as I know, such a thing does not exist. I clicked the link to see where you got it from. Well... it's not easy to know, but I thought it could be interesting for you to learn that it is NOT true that librarians nominate authors, or that people can vote. Only few people can nominate, and it's against the rules to make the nomination public (so you can't withdraw from a list that you don't know that you're on). This is a process that is surrounded by secrecy, and that is why it's so fun every year when "the day of the great reveal" comes. :) Of course, it is entirely possible that Murakami has told the Swedish Academy that he wishes to never receive the prize! https://svenskaakademien.se/en/the-nobel-prize-in-literature/rules-for-nominations
I think this wasn't all bad. The acting was good and some of the story too. I liked Zhen Zhen the most, and I also felt sympathy for Lucy. Some of the other characters were very annoying though (Hong Hong, but also A'Chu, and her mom too!). I just didn't understand the characters a lot of the time and strange things happened. The guy who wanted to date A'Chu was so weird. (she's half his age and looks like a teenager and she's not at all into him, what is he doing?) But I have to say that David grew on me. At first I didn't like him but I think his friendship with Zhen Zhen progressed nicely. I loved Ode to Joy 1&2, and I loved Nothing But Thirty. I thought When We Are Together and Crossroad Bistro were okay. This was just meh to me. Watchable but nothing more, and I won't watch S4.
I can't say I liked it a lot (slow and complicated, kind of boring) but the FL made it worth it for me. When the Ice Queen sometimes - very rarely - got a hint of a smile on her lips because Sejin said something... really nice.
I believe this is as close as we can get a GL kinda relationship between leads in a mainstream kdrama.
I know... that's the one thing that keeps me from dropping it. I thought it was interesting in the beginning but then it got sooo slow and kind of boring. I just feel like it's somewhat interesting to see a girl falling in love with another woman. It's between the lines enough that a lot of people probably don't even see it as GL but I feel like that's the only way to explain Sejin's behaviour.
I haven't watched the dramas in your article, but I still agree with the general idea! I definitely care about voices. I can't get enough of the voice of Yang Shuo. (Before dramas, I watched some animes that a friend introduced me to and I fell in love with the voice of Akio Ootsuka [Kyou Kara Maou, Black Jack and more]. A recent disovery of mine is the singer Ko Woorim from the group Forestella - a very deep bass, a trained opera singer.)
Wow, I was just randomly checking if there's anything new and interesting with Liu Tao, and I find Hu Ge and Wang Kai on the same page?! And the rest of them too. :) I have no idea what the drama is about, but it's going on my ptw list. (But I know that when it comes to dramas with very little information and no air date, the cast can change or the drama may never be released...)
Since when the definition of ‘revenge’ is just to tell the truth to other people. Plus, FL mostly just ‘all…
I was thinking that too, that the FL is mostly all talk... she couldn't really do anything at all on her own. But I thought about it, and I think it depends on point of view. Why was the villain a villain? Because she wanted revenge. That was her motivation for everything she did, so in that sense it's a revenge drama, even though the FL is bad at revenging. :)
