It's not a documentary, it's entertainment, why do people mistake those two so often. Hope it won't end up like…
It's entertainment but it's moronic in its execution. Imagine, if you will, a drama about the Holocaust which pictured Jewish people as exhibiting the (false) negative stereotypes that the Nazis accused them of at the time. Still entertaining? Being 'North Korean spies' was one of the FALSE things that the dodgy government/security services of the day accused the democracy movement of.

It's fiction, clearly stated and plain to see, not a historical reenactment/biography.
It's fiction but it's tone deaf fiction. Imagine, if you will, a drama about the Holocaust which pictured Jewish people as exhibiting the (false) negative stereotypes that the Nazis accused them of at the time. Still 'only fiction'?

This is one of the best movies I have ever seen. I am surprised it has such a low rating on MDL. Really says something…
It has a low rating, I suspect, because it doesn't appeal to the teenage/middle-aged Sasaengs who form a sizable chunk of the MDL audience. But I agree with you that it's a beautiful film.

I think Song Hye Kyo would be better if she was given an antihero or villain roles for a change... tired of seeing…
I know nothing about her private life, sorry.

Title Melancholia Spoiler
It seems that a lot of people in this comment section are angry when the characters don't act the way they want,…
I agree that it's - in part - the interference/perception of others that cause the couple problems, but its also, to a sizeable extent their behavior that does this. Let me reverse the scenario. A middle-aged MALE maths teacher and a young female student develop this same relationship; he singles her out for attention, goes on trips with her alone and spends a lot of time gazing soulfully into her eyes, sometimes with umbrellas. Still innocent? It might be but I think, at the very least, you'd say he had poor boundaries and worse judgement.

She is not a model/actress in the show. She makes clothes. Would you wear fancy clothes at your workplace.
Not straight away of course not. But as she's now in her 40s, some (10-15) years past her student days, I'd expect her to dress like a leading designer.

I don't know about Korea but in Europe and the U.S. fashion designers definitely dress 'up', usually in their own designs. It's not, necessarily, a red carpet 'look' but it's definitely one-off and individualistic with nice fabrics and great tailoring.

Person Chae Ji An
Who writes the 'details' section? This one is particularly over-the-top, e.g. 'unparalleled beauty', and 'become an actress that lets weary people find rest/ (wtf?). Maybe it put casting directors off?

Aging?! Not looking great?? Are we looking at the same woman??????
Good looks aren't just about youthfulness. She's very pretty but she looks her age - and then some. That's possibly because she keeps insisting on being in dramas with obviously younger actors and definitely because her lack of expression makes her look tired (and older). I'm not a fan of pairing crusty old men with young actresses, either. It, too, makes the men look even older.

Can he just stop. Jeoson kings are entitled to unlimited wives they don’t close unless they die he can take…
Thank you - and if you could recommend a good Korean history book/source I'd be really grateful. I have few but many of them focus - unsurprisingly - on modern Korean history.

Which concubine was Deok Ro's sister? Royal Noble Consort Won of the Pungsan Hong clan or Royal Noble Consort Hwa of the Namwon Yun clan ? I know it can't be Royal Noble Consort Su of the Bannam Park clan as she gave birth to the next king.

There's an age gap tag. So, I don't think there will be 'romance' exactly but its likely that part of the female…
Except that I don't think the tag is wrong -only you do.

I think she might do better if she did something other than 'noona' roles. Or if she was prepared to do some acting, with, like, facial expressions and stuff.

But there is an age gap. Tell MDL to fix that tag if you have more insight.

As I read the comments, I think that this drama is maybe a bit too complicated and has too many nuances and subtlety…
It's not subtle or nuanced - it's wall to wall tropes. Including the ever-tedious 'noona' one (there are three airing dramas at this very point in time using that trope). People don't dislike it because they're too thick to understand how 'complicated' it is. Because it isn't complicated. Nor are the tropes in any way presented as satire. People have - quite openly - said that the poor acting (of the FL in particular) and the thin, specious story is what's turning them off.

That makes two of us - I don't know what you're talking about either (apart from telling other people to 'shut up').
