Yes i agree with you! I actually thought this drama was very romantic, the FL and ML had a love that was turbulent at times and not straightforward. We even got a good few eps towards the end of them being domestic and the ML caring for her. So perhaps people are lookng for a different kind of romance and thats okay but to say this has no romance or barely any romance is equally disingenuous

In terms of the natural, breathtaking cinematography it reminds me of Flourished Peony and Story of Minglan, there are minor similarities, but as you said Mo Li is very unique

tbf I wouldn't call the drama slice of life... it is slower paced though

I'm not a romance fan in general, so I rated this drama very highly but it really depends on taste. If you've been on international drama spaces you know that people love romance and put it first and foremost, ngl though especially if people are gonna pick up a historical/political plot with a meaty story they shouldn't only expect romance to be the driving factor. They should probably look to romantic xianxia dramas to get their fix, but forcing a drama to be solely a romance - when its not, and then rating it badly doesn't help anyone

Just finished it. For anyone wondering if its worth watching, 100%, its genuinely a perfect drama😭

The thing about the Empress Dowager is that she has no remorse for her actions. She has an excuse for everything. When she was talking to Ye Li during ep 40, Ye Li was telling her that the official road she wanted to build displaced many of the common people. And she said it was a sacrifice that had to be made, when it came to the Late Emperor and The Eastern Palace, + all the cavalry that died, she said she had to be ruthless, it was kill or be killed. There is no guilt to any of her actions, I'm not saying I don't understand why she did what she did, I know as a woman its not easy, but the complete and utter lack of remorse is chilling. She is terrifying. Her son differs in that respect.

I'm on ep 37, doesn't it make more sense for ML to side with Mo Jing Li. If the show was from Mo Jing Li's perspective we'd probably root for him. Kind of reminds me of Empress Ki..

Agree with you 100%. If a Korean BL had the proper 16 episodes each episode being 1 hour and a proper plot (like the bromance dramas) it would break the Internet. I hope we get it some day
