you should check out Mukodono, Unubore Deka, Ore no Ie no Hanashi, Tiger and Dragon and a lot more of his dramas.…
You forgot his another classic Hakusen Nagashi. Basically another side of his acting style.

Not as good as the 1983 and the anime adaptation. but much more better than the drama
The late Obayashi Nobuhiko truly elevates the 1983 version just by his carefully-planned and innovative (by early 1980s standard) cinematography. In terms of acting, the 2010 spinoff smokes the 1983 version (and even the 2016 series) big time. It's not even a competition.

It's just many people doesn't really get the essence and intention of the 2010 spinoff, perhaps because slice-of-life format, slow burn (lack of sensationalism) style of storytelling is simply not a cup of coffee for the most in the first place.

Just rewatched it recently after some years. I glad it was out 10 years ago - had it been released these days, the material (it's adapted from a novel) would've never been made it the GP for being a bit too 'politically correct'. If it does the international fandom might've torched it day and night lol.

Still bugged to this day how did Riisa managed to figure out to emulate gestures of pregnant woman so effortlessly (especially in the last 2-3 episodes) - mind you, she was still unmarried and had no prior experiences on conceiving a baby at that time of the filming. Underrated genius (although I think she's gaining boost of popularity due to her successful Youtube channel, and of course the AiB series).

BTW a bit off topic - if you like Tsurukame, then Lion no Oyatsu is also right up your alley - the same cadence, original material (a novel) was from the same writer too.

And her asadora Totto Neechan. Such a show of force.

Surprisingly good. Slick production and fast-paced enough.
The kid playing VR Naoki looks like young Ishihara Satomi lol, especially the lips.

the way she can potray any roles well but it's the series choice didn't really have good plot to watch lol ps…
Indeed, she seems to have SERIOUS issues in project choice. Whether it was forced down from the management to her or just simply bad taste, we might never know. But it's harder to get meaty roles in decent and well-written show these days without enough privilege.

She is underrated and has very unique looks. Her acting style is also rather unusual among the late millennial and Gen Z actresses - tends to thrive in dark and gritty roles (mostly indie projects).

PLEASE CAST RIHO AS A MAIN LEAD ALREADY !!!!! WE ALL KNOW HOW GREAT SHE IS AS AN ACTRESS ! SO JUST PLEASE SOMEONE…
If this girl was a Korean or Chinese (be it Taiwan or Mainland), top filmmakers and TV series producers would've been already all over her. *Super* visual + can act + versatile -> what else you can ask for

Unfortunately Japan's TV/cinema industries are more into conformism and actors with *unusually* good looks are treated as surplus :(. No matter how good he/she is in acting. Sad truth that is.
