I really like Lovely writer. It's still my favorite series from him. But it's usually admitted that his best series overall is obviously I feel you linger in the air in terms of acting, story, cinematography, etc. If you have time and want to see what it is, maybe you'll like it too. But I think he's certainly not a bad director. Some scenes are absolutely beautiful.
I can't believe that this series was directed by the same guy who directed both Show Me Love and Hidden Agenda…
He's also made I feel you linger in the air, Lovely writer, Something in my room. They are not bad shows. It happens. Sometimes you're inspired. Sometimes not.
im still on ep2 but why tf is jack that mad at joker. like did i miss something in ep1? bcz sure joker made a…
- He was arrested in front of his grandma, because of Joke. His only family. Fortunately, she has a strong heart. - He had a hope and it was a broken hope in the end. - He trusts Joke but Joke lies to him. - He feels already attracted to Joke so the emotion is also stronger - etc.
apparently, people are liking it, it reflects the personal taste of the public here not Rotten Tomatoes or metacritics
Why just not watch the series and make your own mind ? Do you need the validation of other people to enjoy a serie or not ? (Sorry if I sound harsh, but I just don't understand your logic).
Let me ask you another question. When you say : "A Thai BL that good?". Is the nationality of a BL a criteria…
You could also have said "An action (or romance or etc.) drama that good ?". Genres are also a MDL thing. You specifically make the choice to point out the country...Anyways in both case, this kind of sentence just shows you already have some kind of preconceived ideas. Then it will be difficult for you to enjoy it. Not saying it is not impossible though.
So, I'm continuing on the symbolic of objects in the series. Now another important object is mentioned : Aran's necklace. Usually a necklace can symbolize : - the power of beauty (Aran and his fashion show, the beauty products). Here in this context, it is also heavily implied this also means some kind of superficiality and arrogance. - the power of seduction (and fertility usually in many cultures). Rose going to the auction and wanting the necklace is not out of the blue. It's a subtle way to say she wants to "seduce" Jack. - and obviously a social marker. Again the auction shows the power play between Aran and Rose, with numbers rising as both of them want to show their superiority in terms of money but also social standing and influence. So it's not a surprise that Aran without his necklace is stripped of his "social status", and lost a lot of his power. - but also a symbol of protection and spirituality. After all a necklace "protects" the neck. This is most likely linked to Aran's mother and the story (we still don't know) behind that.
So. A little analysis of this series. The plot, in fact, makes a lot more sense if you think about the symbolic…
Now. What about the actions happening around that ring ? What do they mean ? All of this for just a ring ? But no. It's not just a ring. It's a symbol of something which has a lot of value, a "treasure" : Jack's desire to "freely" choose his attachments and to realize them. His dreams (a school, education, taekwondo). His emotional bond to someone. His precious memories. - First Jack's ring is with him. It is undeniably the symbol of the past. What happens to his parents. A memory full of sorrow and pain. Emotional attachment but also Jack's "chaining" to a familial debt. - Then Jack gives the ring to the Boss. But he does not give this freely, but under pressure. This symbolizes his "chaining" to the Boss. It's a true "enslavement". His job will most likely dehumanize him. And he doesn't want that. Him fooling the Boss by staying true to his heart, this is his way to fight against his situation, as much as he can. - Jack gives his ring to Joke but he doesn't know it's the Joker. This is done under deception. The deception of fate. He doesn't know he's already linked to another person who will change his life. Both of them are unknowingly drawn to each other, pushed to each other by fate. They cannot escape it. Time and emotional attachment. - Jack fights for the ring but later gives it willingly to Joke. In fact, he has already forgiven Joke, since then. Without words. He's willing to be "linked" to Joke. Joke has unconsciously understood the meaning of such an "abandonment", almost like a surrender. - Joke wants to give the ring back to Jack, so that he and his family can be "free". But it is not freedom but evasion. It is not surprising. Even if Joke has his problems, he still comes from a "rich" background. So this sounds a little thoughtless, careless. But Jack cannot let go of his familial/social attachment just like that.
So. A little analysis of this series. The plot, in fact, makes a lot more sense if you think about the symbolic of objects, names, writings, etc. at the service of emotions, bonds, social messages, existential meaning. It's "another" reality. The reality of human desires, struggles, despair, feelings. Let's start with the symbolic of one important object of the series : Jack's ring. And it's not for nothing that the creators have chosen this kind of object. It's those small details that tell you in fact that the story has more layers than you think. - Obviously a ring symbolizes emotional attachment and fidelity. It's not surprising when you think of this, that it echoes one of Joke's tattoo : loyalty (a writing...). And of course the scene where Jacks gives his ring to Joke, shows a link/an affection that will then grow stronger and stronger. Well, an unsaid marriage of some kind. - But a ring can also remind you of the ring of a chain. Slavery in fact. In this case it symbolizes Jack's unwanted submission to the Boss orders, because of his debt (another jail). - And then a ("royal") ring is also a symbol of power. It is not for nothing that the Boss displays the ring in his "treasure" room. It shows the extent of his power on people.
Here's the translation of the synopsis for ep 7 from J&J official account, if you're interested :
"Jack is forced to accept the boss's offer to pay for Grandma's medical expenses. Meanwhile, Joke tries to apply for jobs, but no company will hire someone with a criminal record. In the end, Joke has to work as a porter instead. Jack is responsible for being Rose's driver, which allows the two of them to go places together often, causing Joke to feel that he is getting further and further away from Jack." source : https://x.com/jackandjoker_/status/1846162126957957247
