Finally finished this after a decade, i enjoyed it back then and was a treat to catch up with it and finish since it’s so different from dramas these days. Lots of laughs, it didn’t take itself way too seriously and was quite inspiring! I actually really like that the guys in the “love triangle” stayed genuine friends even after they realized they liked the same girl. The flash-forward (to 2018 goodness) was quite realistically done too, I like that they weren’t ALL huge pop stars and Pil Sook gained some of her weight back because that is too real.
Also, I feel like this drama was foreshadowing for KSH and a few of the main castmembers careers, they were already chosen ones back then. Also, it only made sense that his character was K as he was a musical prodigy. Watching the Grammy scenes and the spiel about how successful he was immediately reminded me of BTS and how successful they are now.
There’s a really special relationship *Kijima develops that to me is even way more impactful than the one he had with Kido. It could be a drama on its own.
Yes thank you, this is exactly how I felt about the drama when I tried to watch it a little while after it aired. I’ve always been flabbergasted as to why it was so popular.
I don't think the manga writer has control over Mob or anyone in the BL manga world...in an earlier episode, we just saw him following a burgeoning couple to get material then he realized he has lots of inspiration around him. I think he has just been following "Mob" to get another idea for his manga but hopefully SEASON 2 clears that up *please let there be a 2nd season*
so Mob was "trapped" in a BL world and trying so hard not to fall in love with men that he did nothing but think about them all day in romantic situations and notice all the men falling in love around him while a guy who was a bl manga artist didn't even notice till much, much later. Then when he's actually around attractive women (ex: at the matchmaking outing) he barely pays any attention to them or talks to them.....this is such an interesting way of portraying a deeply closeted man who is literally fighting against his desires and attraction to other men...all while poking fun at BL manga tropes we know so well. Pretty brilliant!! I did really appreciate that he was supportive of all the couples at the end of the day and wished them all luck. Also, he and Kikuchi (who has the softest voice ever) are so cute together!
Also the fact that I recognized basically every manga that was shown y'all..And shout out to Pornographer! The manga was like clearly featured in a few scenes and in episode 3(?) or where he finds the guy passed out by the tracks, there were a few scenes there that were like carbon copies of the train scenes in the live action drama of Pornographer, The Novelist. It's probably a reach though lol.
My precious son Yutaro Goto from Cherry Magic is in this too! He IS SO ADORABLE!!!!
Good article. It is my favorite trope as well. If I may give a suggestions of best hate to love romances :-Secret…
Secret was everything. Babaaay when I tell you Ji Sung was sizzling during his romantic scenes with HJE. I went from literally saying out loud "I WILL NEVER SHIP THESE TWO!!" to loving them together.
does anyone know the name of the magazine and the edition that machida and akaso took photos in together? they are in the album for the drama. Literally just saw it and I would like to buy a copy!

Very enjoyable drama overall!
