Title Beyond Evil Spoiler
Shin Ha Kyun is great in his role, but in hindsight his character too spends about a third of the show being suspicious…
To answer your questions:

- LDS' "magical power" as you call it, it's never in your face , it doesn't lessen his character nor will make the story fall apart if you take it away from him. Of course the MCs will have some sort of "special power" to help them catch the bad guys; not sure if you have watched "Voice", "Signal" and "Stranger" but all of them are crime/mystery series and the MC has a special power or physics bent their laws for them. Eidetic memory is more common than people think. And knowing the law so well is the damn job of every policeman, nothing to question about.

- The lights going out while LYY is walking is called visual storytelling. It was used for 2 purposes; one, to serve as a warning to LYY that something dangerous lies around her/ahead and that she should go back. And two, that lights going out, darkness surrounding her and she runs to the other side of the the road, means that she will die. Also, if you have lived in villages/rural areas, things like this are common. It's very scary.

- The old man with dementia is Park Ju-Seon's father. Of course he has something on LDS, as he was the main suspect of his daughter's murder. Not sure if you are referring to something else though.

- That's because the writer and director didn't want to focus on the serial killer and why he murdered all these women; the important part is too see how, the family left behind by their loved ones disappearing, is dealing with the trauma. We don't know for how long KJM was faking it, but I think it was before the murders took place. So give or take, 25 years. EDIT: KJM was cutting their fingers because the victims were judging him with them. We don't know how this started, but we can see that he literally loses it and can kill someone if they point their fingers at him.

- The writer didn't run out of names; this happened because they wanted to empathize that there were so many bodies, the killing was worse than they thought and that DHW knew it but she made a deal with a killer to protect her son. We got focus on the victims who were important to the main characters of the story.

- LYY saw KJM killing PJS; she ran but KJM caught her and proceed to cut her fingers. As he was placing PJS body in the field, LYY took her chance to escape. She was running and crying in the dark street when she saw the lights of a car. She stood in front of it so that the driver could see her and because she was in shock after what happened, but HKH was DUI so he hit her with his car. LYY died instantly from the hit + the bleeding from her severed fingers. Later, PJJ was also DUI, or at least something similar, and he ran over her dead body.

- Oil construction was a nationwide company before they went bankrupt. It doesn't exist as a company in the current timeline, after the murders took place. Not sure if they still financed him after all that happened, but I doubt it. It seems like HKH cut ties with her family.

I just finished rewatching "Beyond Evil" on Netflix and my god, what a Masterpiece!

Not a scene, not a line was wasted to tell the story. Everything ties together to reveal the mysteries, to develop the characters, to lay the ground for heartbreaking moments. The foreshadowing in some lines was amazing, you need to have complete control over your script to do this. And of course, I have to mention the outstanding performances of SHK and YJG; without their talent and chemistry, the series wouldn't be the same.

I am rambling but I need to let it out lmao I think I will place it near the "Hannibal" series, which for me is the epitome of artistic value in media. I know the two series couldn't be more different but they are very much loved by me on the same level.

Anyways, if you have time please rewatch! It's a new experience knowing what happens and catching the hints, you will appreciate the story more ^^

P.S.: LDS/HJW relationship the best. Just kiss already hehe~

Decided to finish watching this since the wlw plotline ended in a good way after that scandal~

Overall, I enjoyed it. Yes, it was a bit messy here and there, the big twist at the end was nothing much while the old lady screaming made me skip her scenes BUT I loved the relationship all the women had in the drama; their bonds, conflicts and final outcome. I cried many times because of Han Joon (seriously, the child actor is a genius!) while my heart also warmed up by many beautiful moments.

P.S: Kim Seo Hyung, I'm so gay for you!!

Currently rewatching on Netflix and damn, knowing the ending (since I watched the series while airing), gives me a new perspective of the story and characters. The writer had such control over everything, it's insane. It confirms once again why I love the series and why it deserved all the awards.

Also, it's fine if some people don't like it. It's definitely not a mainstream story; slow-burn/pace, very character-driven, it leaves hints and makes you think what's going on/what will happen. Of course this doesn't mean that the exact opposite is inferior but they are definitely more easy to watch and enjoy. Anyways, let's all respect each other here, regardless of our opinions :)

I enjoyed this a lot! It wasn't perfect, but it was a series I was looking forward to every week and I think that's the most important part. I would have liked for KSA and HJW to be endgame, but I am fine with the open ending too. I am down for a S2 as well. Thank you to the cast and crew for their hard work all these months :)

i wouldn't be surprised if KJH is mad at her hubby right about now. i don't know how it is in S. Korea, but that's…
Idk how much I can trust her husband's words that it was a tough decision for her to make and play the role, since he also said that the character's struggle will be back to "normal" by the end, as well as that they, as a married couple, are against homosexuality, so I am 50/50 on it. She might be mad that he gave answers and caused this mini-scandal, not for his views which she either shares or is indifferent towards to. And it won't be difficult at all to get work: worse scandals have happened and the "stars" are back again with the support of fans. They will be fine.

but i think you need to understand that not everyone welcoming "LGBT" culture. as much as how you want everyone…
... Are you for real? Did you just say that there is nothing wrong with being homophobic? You do realize there is a fine line between "I don't like/agree with your opinion but I respect it" and "I don't accept you for who you are and will discriminate against you, even putting your life in danger"? Stop trying to cover the second one as "opinion you need to respect", because it's not an opinion; it can even cause violation of human rights and you can go to the court if someone is discriminating against you at work, for example.

Homophobia along with racism, misogynism, fatphobia, etc are real and impact negatively humans around the globe, even to the point of people losing their lives, because of this irrational fear against them. You can keep your homophobia, we don't want to hear it. It must be nice living in this world without fearing about your well-being because you were born in a group that is not targeted by hate. Let LGBTQ+ people live their lives and if you don't like it, go run or something, to let the frustration out. We are not going anywhere and we are normal :)

There is no need to understand; we live it every day in fear. If some fans want to drop this after what her husband said, they are valid. None is forcing us to watch it at the end of the day, it's pure entertainment. And yeah, homophobes can f*** off. I will never understand them and I don't want to.

I came here to check opinions and saw what happened. Disappointed but not surprised.

As others commented on this already, SK is still very conservative and homophobic. Opinions such as KJH's husband exist and even more extreme versions of it; you might even know someone like him. Nothing I haven't read or heard before, so I am "whatever" about it BUT what I am very worried about, is his comment on "going back to normal" about the whole lesbian thing.

That's why, I am putting the series on-hold, till it ends. I don't want to continue watching only to be left sad and angry over a plotline I am interested in, resulting in blatant homophobia from the writer. I will check online every week about what's happening, so when it finishes, I can at least know if I should invest again or not.

P.S.: LGBTQ+ people have rights and deserve to live. If you don't like our "lifestyle/choice", whatever you wanna call it, keep that sh*tty opinion to yourself. I don't respect homophobes, cheers!

Congratulations to all the winners! I am very pleased with the 3 awards "Beyond Evil" got, since it became one of my favourite dramas and I believe the cast and crew rightfully deserve them. Also, glad for Oh Jung Se and Jeon Jong Soo, they were amazing in their respective roles.

I applaud you OP for your excellent taste in K-dramas! Some of these are my favourites (Beyond Evil, Save me, Strangers from Hell) while I enjoy others a lot (Sky Castle, Sweet Home). I need to check "Penthouse" for sure. Thank you for this article :)

LOL, you say "some strangers are so ready to defend a celebrity you know nothing about", but then proceeds to…
Did she call back sweetie? I hope you are getting paid well to be her attorney. And yeah, STFU back to you. I will call her whatever she is when there is evidence of said abusive behavior and actions. Continue defending people that don't know you exist, I am sure that's an amazing life right there.

This is a really well written and down to earth comment that I was really looking for, I agree with all you said.…
Thank you. I like her as an actress and her work so far, hell I even started dramas because of her, but I put my ethics above stuff like this. She needs to own it up, apologize, get help and become a better person. There is nothing wrong with holding people accountable for their current/past bad actions; if anything it can help both them and the victim to move forward with their lives. She is as human as we are and just because she is on TV and many like her, it doesn't take away how bad she has been in the past. I sincerely hope she understands her mistakes and apologizes.

Very disappointed to find out she is an abusive and manipulative person. She was my favorite SK actress but after this, I have to drop her for the time being. Unless she gets professional help and counseling, she will continue (along with others) to harm people around them. She didn't even issue a statement herself but the company did. At least own up to it even if it happened 3 years ago and you are now a changed, better, person. But nothing; it's silence from her part besides her company coming forward. It's a bad look and doesn't do her any favors.

But I am also appalled by some comments here. Women can be abusive towards men. Yes, the statistics show that the majority who do this kind of thing are men BUT we shouldn't let women get a pass for the same bad behavior. I have seen and heard many examples of the same thing in my years so far, and we should hold people accountable of their awful actions regardless of their gender. Also, this is far from jealousy and some harmless possessive behavior that exists between couples: she caused her partner and his colleagues to go through intense moments that had a negative impact on their mind. The fact that some strangers are so ready to defend a celebrity you know f*cking nothing about says a lot. You can like and admire their talent but never defend their awful behavior and actions. May this becomes a lesson for her and helps her towards becoming a better person in the future.
