Haha I agree, both him and Shu yuan are really cute, which just adds on to making me want to support them in this drama. Also did you see their last formal livestream? They were both crying really hard at the end, and tbh I was also emotional with them..they're honestly one of the few I've seen who're genuine and don't just perform for their fans ❤️

Yes, that's the thing. Whatever he did is so unforgivable that we can't root for him at all, and he's one of the main characters, and presumably the real one. You can understand how mad people got when they saw that our golden retriever Zhen Xin, whom everyone thought was real, wasn't and this psycho was 😂 that might have been one of the reasons the author had to retcon their work and make them all real! Ollie is ofc one of the reasons I like both the top characters, its coz he played them, and sometimes you can see his personality shining through which makes it even more endearing for me lol.

All these people who treated Gao zhun badly should have atleast received some form of punishment, but they didn't, which made it even more annoying. I also like grey characters but there's a fine line where you can excuse the toxicity or maybe it makes a drama more entertaining to watch but in this case its just sick..

I get it! I also need proper closure to a series or I'm left feeling unsatisfied. This did have two end credits tho, but I still wish they showed more lol. I haven't watched that many japanese BLs, or the one you mentioned, but I have also seen very ones where I am perfectly okay with the ending. Wbu?

Yeah he's not a good person, needs therapy himself. Maybe he got too obsessed with Gao zhun? I really don't know much about his mindset or character since I didn't read the novel, but I just couldn't get past whatever happened to Gao so I didn't care about the rest..I mean reading about all that would've been difficult for me let alone watching it happen in the series, which is one of the reasons why they changed a lot of these characters and their motivations. Which works since its adapted from the original work and not following the exact events that occurred there. And its more realistic for Gao to hate zou yun since he's the one who gave him all that trauma so they showed it here. You still see his craziness and 'sickness' as he says it, since he becomes too dependant on the doctor, and stabs himself when Justin makes a move. But in the novel he's even more insane and goes on a path of self destruction coz fang chi discards him like that, and you're right to say its a form of self punishment as he feels like he deserves it! Fang Chi is really unlikeable in the novel, he knows how crazy Gao can get..but still leaves him vulnerable, and they still get together at the end which is crazy. In the series he's definitely not a green flag, but still better than how he was in the novel..

Yeah I think someone translated the director's note in this comment section, it mainly said that we should pursue what we love boldly, as life is too short, or something like that. Also, the ending felt abrupt coz it was, that's why I think they should've included the novel extras, where its revealed that all four of them are real. Its after their relationship was exposed in the entertainment industry and it became a scandal.

So they didn't include the extras of the novel, where it turns out all four of them are real characters. So essentially you have your male leads and second male leads. After the scandal ZZ and ZX had to quit the entertainment industry and go live abroad, which was Canada. There FC and GZ were already married and living together, and they met each other. There are also a lot of parallels and similarities between these two couples which I believe the series could've explored more.

Np I love discussing the plots with others, especially this novel which has a lot of differences with the series! I definitely think the live action is better, the novel had a lot of unlikeable and sick characters, which made it personally difficult for me to like it more. But there is one think the novel did better, which is related to the ending, so tell me if you wanna know about that.
Regarding the scenes, yes they are descriptive, and it mostly involves Gao Zhun with all the other men you saw in the series, mainly Justin with whom he hooks up after Fang Chi leaves him, and also Zou yun, and with him he has a relationship and they live together, even tho he knows that's his rapist. That guy faces no repercussions whatsoever, and they live together for a certain time period before fang comes back. Apart from these two he also has unprotected s*x with people in the party he goes to, to get over his trauma, and it works! Like there are so many triggering plot points in this I've lost count. Ofc he's not mentally in a safe space, but Fang chi is also more of a red flag than we see in the series, that car scene is what he recreated, made Gao suffer through the same trauma when he trusted him so much..so basically raped him the exact same way as zou yun before.

Actually I haven't read it, i couldn't bring myself to go through some of it as its triggering for me..but I do know the major plot points and what happens, not the exact details tho. I discussed this with many who have read it, and were traumatized lol so I decided to skip. Thankfully what I was fearing didn't happen and they kept the story relatively clean in the series.

Yes! Omg you said everything I wanted to say. Teasing that potential of Pakin and Sky being a thing was unnecessary, and dragged both Noeul and Boss into it coz of the popularity of this series. Also that random trauma, which has already been shown n times in other dramas before, took up an entire episode, which frustrated me so much. They could have covered so much more in that one episode but they lumped everything into the last one which made the ending even more underwhelming!

In the story Jay is even more of a in your face kinda red flag, in this one he's toned down a lot. This is actually nothing compared to how forceful he is in the novel/manhwa!

Its probably just as you understood it at first, the doctor-patient are the real ones. They only used the same actors irl for them coz they didn't want to use new ones to confuse the audience further!

I've honestly surprised myself with the amount of analysis I've done for this drama, and then sharing them with people who were confused about something. Trust me when I say this I'm not actually a literature student, and have never been one to pick up a lot of nuances or look deep into something, mainly a drama or story. This is literally the first time I did this lol 😂 If anyone still hasn't figured out I think I'm too obsessed with this drama and actors 😭

This is more explored in the novel, but Zhen had already noticed Zhang from the start, he just pretended not to remember him. And all those days of living together made him want to pursue something with him even more. I was still confused about when all this turned to love on his side, coz that's different from just desire or attraction, as Zhang doubts too, and that's why he breaks up with him. But I think its meant to be clear to us when he cries in the snow, then cries to that actress and actually tells her how he sees ZZ. ZZ realizes the same and that he loves him too when he reminisces about all those moments earlier when Zhen did something that showed his sincerity. In their last livestream, shu yuan(ZZ) said that this scene of him remembering all those past moments is meant to show a culmination of all the times Zhen's actions touched his heart, and this made him finally realize that he really loves him instead of being confused about that boundary of whether its just acting and being too immersed in Gao's role that made him think so.

Yes they were supposed to have a relationship. Filming doesn't happen in chronological order so that was done first. But later it was removed coz Zhen told the director to change their scenes, since having that in the movie would entirely change Gao's situation and everything, make it more complicated then what we saw where he was just drugged and didn't know about it. Now this is the original scene from the novel, so I think its the real director here who did this purposefully through Zhen coz he wanted Gao zhun to have better mental health in this series and not go down the path of self destruction as he did in the novel. It would've been even more uncomfortable and painful for us audience to watch so I'm glad he made those changes.

Its probably to stop him and then try to do what he does at then end of ep 8, if you remember. He always wanted to do that so FC told GZ to not be in a room alone with him.

Its that way in the novel so they went with that. I wish they'd shown what they actually did in that time, like maybe Zhang's conversation with his gf or why he was living away and how they were dealing with the separation etc, but then again some people here think that the director did this deliberately to show that they were the fake characters, so their story feels more 'novel' like and ends with a bang- unlike that of the doctor-therapist for whom its more of a domestic, calm and peaceful ending.
