4.5 ep in and I can understand Ha Ji Yul's need for boundaries. I am also frustrated that once again someone blamed someone for somebody else's choices. That person chose to do X so quit taking it out on your (rival?) just because you have a crush on that person; argh.
1. Was Payu ever introduced to Rain's parents as his boyfriend or just a faculty senior? 2. Does anyone know where to find the instrumental piece found in ep. 5? 3. Did you know that Peat (Sky) is the oldest of the actors followed by Noeul (Rain), Boss (Payu) then Fort (Prapai)? 4. What is dub con and NSFW (see first review above)? 5. Is the husband/wife thing an actual thing in that world? It seems a little demeaning to both the person who is supposed to be the 'wife' in that relationship and to women who are wives. 6. Are there any Thai BLs where neither guy is the 'weaker'/'nicer'/'vulnerable'? one? Or they are both equally strong and vulnerable? Any Asian BLs like that? I think Bad Buddy is like that but can't think of others. Sorry if I didn't word that first sentence properly.
On a different note; I didn't mind Sky & Pai's story. Not particularly comfortable with all the stalking but there was a deeper thread than just the fluff of the first (which was kinda cute, except for the manipulation and non con stuff), though a very quick recovery on Sky's part after that night seems a little implausible. I have no experience with that so can't comment further.
i just finished watching the show now and i was wondering the exact same thing
Sky explained that himself. He said something along the lines of 'does it matter who I date...' I did think it odd that these two seemingly best friends didn't know that much about each other.
I am half an hour into the first episode and I am dreading what is coming. It will take me a while to get through this series I think. I am both puzzled and aware of how kids become like this and I am sad about it all. There is only one way I can see at the moment to help kids in these situations (both the bully and the victim).
On another note, good to see Choi Hyun Wook in another role and hopefully a good guy this time. I think I need to clean my house before I have the courage to continue.
hated the ending. felt almost like the "it was all a dream!" trope that I often see in older american shows. went…
I read you. You get so invested in the story then find out it is all a lie (even though it is a drama and thus a lie anyway...). One of my favorite book series was thoroughly spoiled this way. The author wrote a book about the other books being written by the FL in this novel, completely ruined the whole thing. Didn't like that book much either.
That said, it did cover a lot of topics that a lot of us need to be reminded of. The hilarity of a good portion of it was also a point in its favor.
Xun An: Don't you think it's self-willed for you to suddenly run back and say you like me? Should I be happy,…
I agree. Just caught up today and was so happy when he said that. I also really liked when a parent in a Lakorn I've forgotten the name of said something along the lines of "you love him but can you deal with him, take on all he is and handle it well". Finally the complexities of a relationship are being written about. Yes love is an important part, but when the sparkle and shine wears off, what are you left with? Can you deal with all that your other person is? A friend told me that in their relationship they are committed. They have said their vows and are sticking to them. The shine is gone but the commitment remains. Love changes and deepens as you choose to love that person, stick together and face life together, choosing to work through stuff instead of going, ah well, it isn't fairy floss and rainbows anymore, let's ditch each other.
Ok, I am guessing you weren't really expecting or wanting a reply like this so I shall stop there. I am also aware that not all relationships can/should be worked out (I am speaking of abusive ones) but most can be with personal awareness (and admitting it) commitment, communication and good, appropriate change of self. It is okay to ask for help from good sources.
A few of the things I like: 1. Realistic timelines for dating, falling in love marrying. Properly getting to know each other!! 2. No super crazy, annoying exes or jealous mosquitos hanging round. 3. Witty, clever dialogue 4. No pretension
Things I am not particularly fond of: 1. The FL's assistant (as with most asian dramas) is dressed as a kid (pigtales, cutsy clothes). 2. ? 3. I'll add something here later if I can think of it.
Once again you have reflected my point of view on things and given me things to think about. I do both binging and as it airs. I eagerly awaited Bad Buddy every week and tried to watch My Dear Donovan and Wiwa Fah Laep but got kinda tired of waiting for subs or wanted to do mini binges. The King: Eternal Monarch (TKEM) I had to wait until after it aired.
Kdramas I often cannot find while airing so they get session binged, cdramas I can binge, take a break and have a hard time getting back to some of them. I think this relates to another of Shiro's articles about dropping or not dropping a drama. Binging/not binging can lead to dropping a drama or leaving it in the currently watching list for ages while gathering the curiosity or commitment required to finish, and then binging it to the end to prove you can do it/watch it, whatever. Sometimes I do mini binges on the first watch through then binge on a rewatch later, some times vice versa.
Then there are the dramas by favourite actors who make you want to love their drama but because you care so much (too much?) you find it hard to watch due to whatever reason. For me it was the second hand embarrassment I felt on behalf of JCWs character in Backstreet Rookie that made it hard to binge, then I chose to get on with it and semi binge til the end.
While I haven't missed a wedding due to binge watching, I have binge watched out of stress which has contributed to a car accident (it will be 3 months of waiting by the time it finally comes back repaired) and sickness (junk food plus binging til late, not so good. This is the second time I've been sick in 4 months). I think I shall be a bit more careful about how & when I go about a good binge session.
Thanks Shiro for another great article. It was the title that caught my eye this time.
I understand where you are coming from re: the activist side. I still don't understand just how what they did…
There are a few that think this way to some degree or another. I think I read the comments either below or on YouTube (where I watched NotMe). That said; I've been re-watching it and think they did a pretty ok job. I think they had a lot to say and put a bit of everything instead of focusing on one or two issues. I also hope that those watching it and wrestling with some of these issues were encouraged. I do need to point out that I did enjoy the drama and I hope they continue improving their work. Any destination is achieved by taking that first step.
Was it Snowdrop, another Jung Hae In drama or another drama altogether that went viral in a bad way b/c a very small part of the script was (allegedly) stolen and people judged it negatively without knowing what the story was actually about? Feel free to expand on your yes/no reply, but please try to remain as objective as possible.
Pretty good so far, all up.
