From what I gathered, it's a bit complicated... Like it's technically still him, just without his memories so the influence of his teachings from growing up in the Premier sect is gone. I feel like there's a prior scene missing from that. He looked so badly tortured that it seemed almost like they beat him into submission. So it's possible he could've started off denying but by the point that we saw, he just gave up because none of the higher-ups believed him. I did see from the reuters that there were other scenes filmed of him in that outfit outdoors before all the blood was smeared on it. Maybe it'll be revealed in another flashback.
