I felt the novel was too long and meandering at times so I'm actually happy with the way the drama was able to condense it so well. It still kept the important essence while managing to make the pacing tight and interesting.

In the novel, you could consider Xue Dingfei as kind of the 4th because he was infatuated with her. Drama is only the 3 male leads.

Then after going through MJTY and experiencing for myself all the behind the scenes drama definitely made me see him in a new light. There's already drama that happened with his new production 🙄

I came cross a douyin that one of the crew members leaked of a scene when GZY says "I am the Sword Wielder" and the director made him do retakes because he didn't sound petulant enough 😒 I doubt he expected that was the direction his character was going when he signed up for the role. I still liked him in it anyway.

But the thing is he was right in scolding her in these situations. Sure, she's clever in making moves, but she's also reckless about it. The letter incident and this Tongzhou situation. If he hadn't silently maneuvered behind the scenes with her in consideration, who knows what might happen to her. There are big stakes here where people lose lives. It's not making everyday life decisions. And he hasn't exactly stopped her from doing anything. He's just mad at her for going about it recklessly.

We need to prepare ourselves for all the "ML is toxic" comments to come out when XW goes full force love brain crazy lol.
