I didn't mind it so much when they cut it if that was the only reason for it. Honestly, I'd feel aggrieved too if I was GSJ if that was used as a reason why he was given the SW position without experiencing the same trials as the others have. But now I do mind that they cut it because it logically explains how he's able to master the techniques so quickly. It prevents naysayers from saying he only learned it so fast because he has ML plot armor. This is all the more reason why they should've left the detail about him having a photographic memory in earlier. I assume seeing the demonstration and was able to memorize it also helped speed up his learning process in addition to the notes left by his father.
